PyData Sofia & DSS Meetup June 2026
PyData Sofia & DSS Meetup June 2026
Come and join us on Jun 18, 2026 for a dive into a topic that impacts everyone using Python. (**Important**: The event requires a mandatory registration) Everyone knows that there is no real multithreading in Python - or is there? The tradeoffs between processes and threads is well known. But what if we could have the best of both worlds? This is where subinterpreters come in. We will go over what subinterpreters are, how they work, and most importantly, how we can use them to make our code faster. We will also go deeper into Python’s internals and explore what a GIL-less Python looks like. The ā€œfreethreadedā€ builds of Python are easily accessible - but are there drawbacks? After that, we can have a quick chat and enjoy some drinks and pizza (provided by SiteGround) If this sounds interesting to you, make sure to sign up below: **Speaker bio:** Lyuboslav Karev has 6 years of experience with anything Python related - web development, automation, AI and Machine Learning. In his current role at SiteGround, he works on Coderick AI - an AI-powered coding platform, which allows its users to create and host sites, business tools, and apps. In his free time, he is part of the Python course in Sofia University. **Agenda:** 19:00 - 19:10: Opening & introduction 19:10 - 19:45: Subinterpreters & GIL-less Python 19:45 - 20:30: Networking with drinks and pizza (provided by SiteGround) **Place:** SiteGround HQ , 6 Olimpiyska st., Sofia **Parking:** available\*\*.\*\* **Directions:** [https://www.google.com/maps/place/g.k.+Sofia+parkMladost,+ul.+%22Olimpijska%22+6,+1766+Sofia/@42.6228344,23.3692001,3a,90y,270h,84.41t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sxcFgY8KOgVqqw7dZJ-Y70w!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fcb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26pitch%3D5.590685654068935%26panoid%3DxcFgY8KOgVqqw7dZJ-Y70w%26yaw%3D270!7i16384!8i8192!4m6!3m5!1s0x40aa813466d6ce39:0xb464d77033cdd740!8m2!3d42.6229584!4d23.3679717!16s%2Fg%2F11sjsgh0c6?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDMyNC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D](https://www.google.com/maps/place/g.k.+Sofia+parkMladost,+ul.+%22Olimpijska%22+6,+1766+Sofia/@42.6228344,23.3692001,3a,90y,270h,84.41t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sxcFgY8KOgVqqw7dZJ-Y70w!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fcb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26pitch%3D5.590685654068935%26panoid%3DxcFgY8KOgVqqw7dZJ-Y70w%26yaw%3D270!7i16384!8i8192!4m6!3m5!1s0x40aa813466d6ce39:0xb464d77033cdd740!8m2!3d42.6229584!4d23.3679717!16s%2Fg%2F11sjsgh0c6?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDMyNC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D)

Jira, Rovo & Beer: What We Brought Back from Team '26
Jira, Rovo & Beer: What We Brought Back from Team '26
In early May, two of our Atlassian experts packed their bags and flew to California for Atlassian Team '26 - one of the biggest gatherings in the Atlassian ecosystem. Georgi and George spent several intense days in Anaheim, sitting through keynotes, joining partner sessions, hosting conversations, and talking to people from organizations across the world who are wrestling with the same questions we are. They're back now. And we thought the best way to share what they learned is an evening with beer and pizza. So what did they actually bring back? The biggest shift was a fundamental change in how Atlassian is positioning itself - not just as a suite of tools your team uses, but as the layer that makes your organizational knowledge usable by any AI system you're already working with. The data your teams have been building for years in Jira, Confluence, and JSM - the workflows, the ownership, the history - is now something external tools can actually access and act on.  On the AI side, Rovo moved well beyond being a smart assistant. The new direction is about AI that takes on real work: breaking down complex requests, executing multi-step tasks, and doing it in a way that stays visible and auditable. Non-technical people can now build automations by describing what they need in plain language. Engineers can ask questions across entire multi-repo codebases. And for the first time, organizations will be able to see exactly where their AI investment is going - and whether it's actually connected to anything strategic. Join us for an informal evening where we unpack all of it and what it means for the way we work.  Agenda --- Speakers Georgi Gachev - Nemetschek Bulgaria (Team Lead) Gogo is a software developer for almost 15 years and he had experience with all kinds of technologies including Java, .NET, Android, Javascript, Python and more. His passions include football, e-sports and travelling. George Stoyanov - Nemetschek Bulgaria George is an experienced professional in the field of software technologies for more than 20 years. Currently he is in charge of leading projects of Atlassian tools implementation, support, integrations and add-ons development in Nemetschek Bulgaria. For the last 5 years his deep technical knowledge and management skills have helped a number of organisations to get the most out of their Atlass… Moderators Velizar Borisov - MBition Sofia (Atlassian Community Champion) Boriana Todorova - Altassian Community Champion Hosted By Velizar Borisov, Atlassian Administrator Boriana Todorova, Community Leader I'm a senior technology leader with 20+ years of experience in quality assurance, process improvement, project delivery, and organizational transformation. I specialize in building high-performing teams, and bridging the gap between business goals and tech execution. My mission is simple: I help systems and people work better — starting with myself, and never stopping at ā€œgood enough.ā€ I thrive where complexity meets urgency — whether it's redesigning inefficient workflows, elevating engineering culture, or aligning delivery with long-term value. I bring a strong foundation in internal auditing practices, ensuring that systems are not only efficient but also aligned with key compliance and quality standards like ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 — without losing sight of the human side of work. I’ve also developed a strong interest in artificial intelligence — not just as a tool, but as a transformational force. I’m exploring how AI can enhance quality, automate the right parts of work, and help us build more adaptive, intelligent systems that serve both business and society responsibly. I believe the future of tech depends not just on innovation, but on responsibility, empathy, and structure that serves both people and planet. Petar Velikov, Atlassian User Group Leader Velizara Streshkova, QA Engineer --- Global Partner Atlassian (http://atlassian.com) Millions of users globally rely on Atlassian products every day for improving software development, project management, collaboration, and code quality. Local Sponsors Nemetschek Bulgaria (https://www.nemetschek.bg) Atlassian Gold Solution Partner. 1JennyFan's Rock Band & Rhythm Gaming Meetup!
**Both primary COVID-19 vaccinations are REQUIRED to enter. No vax, no entry. No exceptions.** Please preferably share your vaccine status in the #vaccine channel on our Discord, either via https://vase.vdh.virginia.gov/vdhapps/f?p=545:1 or photograph of your vaccine card. If you're not comfortable sharing your status online, you can also physically bring your card. Attendees come at their own risk. Whether you've been playing since Guitar Hero 1 like me or want to try out Rock Band 4 for the first time, you're welcome at the Console Gamers Group Rock Band & Rhythm Gaming Meetup! I have a projector equipped loft for Rock Band (Beatles, 3, and 4), Guitar Hero (Warriors of Rock and Live), Dance Dance Revolution/StepMania, and Just Dance. There is also a second bedroom that can be used for games like Frequency/Amplitude, Taiko no Tatsujin, DJ Hero, Beatmania, Parappa the Rapper, Deemo, Voez, the Persona Dancing games, and more. When you arrive please park in a space that does NOT have a number or says "Decal Parking Only"; if those aren't available there's lots of open street parking within the Penderbrook community (I'm right in the middle so either side is cool; parking on Center Way or the middle of Penderbrook Drive is best) but please don't parck on a yellow curb or you might be towed! You'll want to turn at the sign that says "The Greens" onto Golf RIDGE, and then to Golf TEE where I'm the first house on the left. When you enter walk all the way up and to the right; look for the Super Mario Bros. doormat. I'm about 10 driving minutes from the Vienna/Fairfax metro station. We usually go out for dinner at around 5 PM; I live a short drive away from lots of shopping centers including Fair Oaks Mall, Pender, Fairfax Shopping/Towne Center, Fair Lakes Promenade, Fair Lakes Center, and Fairfax Corner. Here's a list of restaurants in the area by food type: [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Mn6ytvuaaGaBlpVT-9pBSh8fv6X8_V9wzl4eQKYzRT0/edit?usp=sharing](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Mn6ytvuaaGaBlpVT-9pBSh8fv6X8_V9wzl4eQKYzRT0/edit?usp=sharing) And by shopping center location! Gaming equipment are not toys. Please be responsible with other people's controllers, consoles, games, furniture, etc. Accidents happen, but if you continuously break things you won't be allowed to use people's equipment. 2. Try and keep a positive atmosphere. A lot of people attend the group to escape from their daily lives. Don't feel like you need to leave your problems at the door, everyone needs to vent once in a while, but please attempt to not do so the whole meetup. We're here to have fun after all, so try and keep it that way! <3
Fun and Games

Board games at Purcellville Library
Board games at Purcellville Library
A friendly meetup to play both competitive and cooperative board games. Bring some games if you’d like, but don’t worry, we will have plenty to play. Come join us for some fun games and camaraderie. We’re a welcoming and sociable bunch, we have a group of regulars that have been coming for more than a year, and we are welcoming new players all the time. We typically have enough people at this event for three tables playing different games, and we try to make opportunities to switch up groups if multiple tables finish games near the same time. This event is in the bigger of the two rooms with a limit of 20 attendees. There is plenty of room for four medium tables in this room, instead of one large table in the smaller room at the Purcellville Library. Please do join the waitlist if the event is full, it’s not uncommon for people to pull out same day. As long as you check meetup before the event and are able to join us on short notice, you are very welcome. If you are on the waitlist and you aren’t let in early enough, and you make other plans for the day, of course no worries at all, just cancel your RSVP when you realize you aren’t going to be available to join us. This event is usually all adults, sometimes members bring their teenage children, we try to keep our language limited to about PG-13. I try to keep a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment. I will do my best to ensure it stays that way, disrespect and hate will not be tolerated. I welcome any concerns to be brought to my attention at any time.
Popular Board Games and Card Games
Popular Board Games and Card Games
We invite you to get acquainted with some popular board games, such as Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, and Catan. They are easy to learn and are loved by a wide range of players. People will be available to teach newcomers how to play each of the games. Beginners are welcome. Feel free to bring additional games that you think people will enjoy. All are invited to come to the Elks Lodge as guests of Virginia Colin. Please make sure that she signs you in. Drinks and good quality bar food will be available for purchase.
