## 🪜 What’s the Plan: Rookie → King’s Court Ladder
This is a ladder mixer. Everyone starts humble. Nobody starts as a “king” (yes, even you).
Courts:
Rookie Court: your spawn point
King’s Court: final boss arena
### 🎮 How it Works
1. Start at Rookie Court
2. Win a game = you upgrade to King’s Court
3. Lose at any point = back to Rookie Court (character development arc)
4. On King’s Court: max 3 wins
After 3 wins, you restart at Rookie Court again (so you don’t camp and become a court landlord)
### 🌀 Paddle Queue System
All courts run on paddle queue. Put your paddle in the box/line for the court you’re queuing for. Rotate in when it’s your turn. No cutting, no politics, no “I know the coach”.
### 🧮 Scoring + Timing
Scoring: First to 15, rally scoring (no serving maths, we’re here to play not do accounting)
Timing: Each match capped at 15 minutes so everyone gets runs
### 🏆 Official Tournament Balls
Franklin X-40 for all games.
### 👑 Ladder Champions + Prize
We’ll track King’s Court streaks and crown the Ladder Champions. Small token prize included (mainly for bragging rights + group chat supremacy).
May the champions rise. May the excuses be creative.
### 📌 Rules of the Game
Switch it up: new partner, new opponents after each match
Be nice: friendly competition, not SEA Games
Call lines fairly, replay if messy, keep it moving
***
## Why You’ll Love It
Fast rotations, lots of games
Meet a bunch of kakis without awkward small talk
You get the dopamine of “ranked mode” without downloading anything
***
## What to Bring
Your paddle (or rent one)
Water bottle, don’t faint halfway
Your best “aiyah nvm” attitude when the ball goes sideways
A ready-made excuse for when you get sent back to Rookie Court
🔔 Friendly Reminder
Pickleball is a social and physical activity, please be mindful of your own safety and physical limits. Participation is at your own risk. Stay hydrated, warm up properly, and rest if you need to.

Bad Girls Book Club February 2026
**Our February novel is: Julia by Sandra Newman**
**This month is a classic, dystopian, fiction, literary fiction, women’s fiction, and science fiction novel. The book is 394 pages in print and 14 hours and 20 minutes on audiobook.**
**An imaginative, feminist, and brilliantly relevant-to-today retelling of Orwell’s 1984, from the point of view of Winston Smith’s lover, Julia, by critically acclaimed novelist Sandra Newman.**
Julia Worthing is a mechanic, working in the Fiction Department at the Ministry of Truth. It’s 1984, and Britain (now called Airstrip One) has long been absorbed into the larger trans-Atlantic nation of Oceania. Oceania has been at war for as long as anyone can remember, and is ruled by an ultra-totalitarian Party, whose leader is a quasi-mythical figure called Big Brother. In short, everything about this world is as it is in Orwell’s 1984.
All her life, Julia has known only Oceania, and, until she meets Winston Smith, she has never imagined anything else. She is an ideal citizen: cheerfully cynical, always ready with a bribe, piously repeating every political slogan while believing in nothing. She routinely breaks the rules, but also collaborates with the regime when necessary. Everyone likes Julia.
Then one day she finds herself walking toward Winston Smith in a corridor and impulsively slips him a note, setting in motion the devastating, unforgettable events of the classic story. Julia takes us on a surprising journey through Orwell’s now-iconic dystopia, with twists that reveal unexpected sides not only to Julia, but to other familiar figures in the 1984 universe. This unique perspective lays bare our own world in haunting and provocative ways, just as the original did almost seventy-five years ago.

Book summary:
Adunni is a fourteen-year-old Nigerian girl who knows what she wants: an education. This, her mother has told her, is the only way to get a "louding voice" -- the ability to speak for herself and decide her own future. But instead, Adunni's father sells her to be the third wife of a local man who is eager for her to bear him a son and heir. When Adunni runs away to the city, hoping to make a better life, she finds that the only other option before her is servitude to a wealthy family. As a yielding daughter, a subservient wife, and a powerless slave, Adunni is told, by words and deeds, that she is nothing. But while misfortunes might muffle her voice for a time, they cannot mute it. And when she realizes that she must stand up not only for herself, but for other girls, for the ones who came before her and were lost, and for the next girls, who will inevitably follow, she finds the resolve to speak, however she can--in a whisper, in song, in broken English--until she is heard
Bad Girls Book Club March 2026
**Our March pick is *God of the Woods* by Liz Moore.**
**This month’s novel is an award-winning literary mystery that blends family drama with psychological suspense. It explores women’s voices and relationships while delivering an exciting, eerie, and deeply suspenseful story. The book is 576 pages in print or 14 hours and 35 minutes on audiobook.**
Early morning, August 1975: a camp counselor discovers an empty bunk. Its occupant, Barbara Van Laar, has gone missing. Barbara isn’t just any thirteen-year-old: she’s the daughter of the family that owns the summer camp and employs most of the region’s residents. And this isn’t the first time a Van Laar child has disappeared. Barbara’s older brother similarly vanished fourteen years ago, never to be found.
As a panicked search begins, a thrilling drama unfolds. Chasing down the layered secrets of the Van Laar family and the blue-collar community working in its shadow, Moore’s multi-threaded story invites readers into a rich and gripping dynasty of secrets and second chances. It is Liz Moore’s most ambitious and wide-reaching novel yet.
