ALBERT CAMUS - Der Fremde

ZH3 Hash # 1721: The Gladiator-Chuggins 69th Birthday Hash
Hares are Gladiator and Merry Chuggins. Despite possessing only one braincell between them, these B.I.M.B.Os have somehow not only survived until adulthood, but made it to milestone birthdays! Chuggins is turning 30 and Gladiator will be... very slightly older. The important thing is that for this hash, their combined age will be a glorious 69! So come and celebrate with more shot stops than is really feasible and a karaoke afterparty. Details TBC.
**Where**:
Zurich City Look for English speakers wearing running gear.
**When:**
We'll meet at 6:50 pm to start at 7:00 pm.
There's a charge of CHF 5 for participating, which covers all you can drink beer/cider (and non-alcoholic alternatives) plus snacks afterwards.
**All Welcome:**
If you are new, curious, and want to get out of the house, stretch your legs, talk shit, enjoy a drink, and hopefully a laugh, then here's what you need to know:
• We are a social running/walking group, physical fitness is not required, but a sense of humour is useful.
• The aim is to find the '*Beer Stop*' at the end of the '*trail*' and have fun.
• 'True Trail' is typically 4-7 km. Some will go less (especially those walking or walk/running), and some over-achieving fast runners will go further.
• The '*Hare*', which changes each event (along with location), cleverly lays the trail (typically with flour marks) so that everyone reaches the end at the same time.
• There is always a place to deposit your bag and sometimes a place to change.
• **After Trail**, we group for \~20-40 minutes for drinks, snacks, and some fun. This '*Circle*' is typically outside, so leave something warm in your bag in winter (and bring a flashlight when it's dark). If you don't want to stand around drinking afterwards, you can head home. We occasionally all go to a restaurant afterwards.
**Why bother leaving your warm & dry sofa?**
If you enjoy getting outside, being around people, and doing something a bit different, you will probably enjoy hashing. Exercise is important, and this is probably the least boring way to get it.
'Hashing' and the idea of some physical activity to work up a thirst, have been around for almost 90 years and there are groups (*Hashes*) in most major cities. Its humor and 'traditions' can be explored on the internet - **or you can just come along and find out.** *See you there.*
We are of many nationalities, all ages, full of misfits and idiots (at least there is no one taking themselves seriously!) and always welcome newbies 'Virgin Hashers' and visitors from other groups.

***MID-SPRING NEW MOON RESET***
In the darkness of the moon’s hidden phase, this New Moon Breathwork & Music Journey invites you to turn away from noise and performance, and move toward what is personal and true, even if it is not yet ready to be seen and lived. Through the power of the breath, moments of deep stillness, and carried by Shakya’s powerful soundscapes, you’ll release what no longer belongs and reconnect with what truly matters to you. This mid-spring reset clears mental clutter, outdated patterns, and heavy emotions. It guides you back to the intentions that quietly took root over the winter and may have been lost in the rush of spring.
No prior knowledge is necessary; you’ll be led by Simone throughout.

A grief ritual is a communal gathering where sorrow is given space and form. We welcome all expressions of grief: personal loss, heartbreak, ancestral wounds, collective pain, or a quiet heaviness without a clear name. Through music, song, rhythm, movement, silence, and guided ritual, grief softens and reveals the love beneath it.

**The experience**
* Enter a safe, held circle where all emotions are welcome
* You may share, move, cry, sing, or remain silent — no pressure to speak

Divine Masculinity and Sacred Brotherhood
A space to return to what is essential
We invite you to take part in a ritual gathering for men, created for those who feel the call to pause, breathe, and reconnect with their inner strength in a safe and authentic space.
We gather in the forest, around the grandfather fire, to share ceremonial cacao and form a circle of presence, listening, and brotherhood.
This is not a workshop, nor a talk, nor a “self-improvement” experience.
It is a living space of encounter, where each man is welcome exactly as he is.
There are no hierarchies here, no masks to wear.
Only men walking their own path, supported by the strength of the circle.
**Who is this gathering for?**
* This circle is open to men who:
* Seek a more honest connection with themselves.
* Feel the desire to inhabit their masculinity with greater awareness and maturity.
* Value silence, authentic speech, and presence.
* Wish to experience brotherhood beyond competition or judgment.
* Are willing to listen and to be listened to.
* No previous experience with circles, rituals, or spiritual practices is required. Only a willingness to be present.
**What we will experience together**
During this gathering of approximately two hours, we will move through simple yet profound practices, guided with care and clarity:
* Ceremonial Cacao Circle, Cacao as a heart medicine, supporting openness, listening, and authentic expression.
* Sacred Fire, The grandfather fire as the center of the gathering, witness to our intentions and processes.
* Meditation and Presence, Moments of silence and inner connection, held by the group.
* Talking Circle, A safe space to share from truth, without advice or judgment.
* Connection with Nature: The forest as a living temple that reminds us of what truly matters.
* Expression and Rhythm: An optional moment of music, song, or percussion to integrate the experience.
Each gathering honors the energy of conscious masculinity, integrating strength and sensitivity, direction and openness.
**Practical information**
Duration: Approximately 2 hours
Location: Forests of Zurich (The exact location is shared after registration)
Energy exchange: Single ticket: 30 CHF Brothers ticket (2 people): 50 CHF
Places are limited to preserve the quality and intimacy of the circle.
**What to bring**
* A cup for ceremonial cacao
* A water bottle
* Wood for the fire
* An offering for the altar (fruit, seeds, a photo, or something that represents love and gratitude)
* Notebook and pen
* Musical instrument (optional)
* Comfortable, warm clothing for outdoor conditions
* Something light to eat after the gathering
* We recommend fasting for at least 2 hours beforehand, as we will be working with ceremonial cacao.
* A held and conscious space
* This gathering is held with respect, confidentiality, and presence.
Everything shared in the circle remains within the circle.
The use of alcohol or other substances before or during the gathering is not permitted.

Trails & Ales! Prairie Oaks Metro Park / Crooked Can Brewing
**History**
[Prairie Oaks Metro Park](https://www.metroparks.net/parks-and-trails/prairie-oaks/) sits along the Franklin and Madison County border, west of Columbus near areas like Hilliard and West Jefferson. The land was part of the broader push in the late 1990s and early 2000s to expand the Metro Parks system into the northwest and western quadrants of the county. Metro Parks began acquiring parcels for what would become Prairie Oaks during the millennium era, as part of a wave of new parks aimed at protecting natural features around Big Darby Creek. Much of the property had been altered by past uses, including farming and quarrying, which left behind pits that later became the Darby Bend Lakes. The park's creation reflected growing interest in preserving remnants of the Darby Plains ecosystem, one of Ohio's original prairie regions that had largely disappeared after European settlement.
The park officially opened to the public in 2000, making it one of the newer additions to the Metro Parks lineup at the time. As the 12th park in the system, it joined others acquired around the turn of the century, like Glacier Ridge. Initial access focused on basic trails and the scenic Big Darby Creek, a State and National Scenic River that winds through the property. Restoration efforts kicked off soon after opening, with crews using seeds native to the Darby Plains to replant nearly 500 acres of tallgrass prairie and grasslands. These plantings aimed to revive the open oak savannas that once characterized the area before widespread agriculture in the 1800s.
Over the first decade, Prairie Oaks grew in popularity for its mix of restored habitats and recreational features. The former quarry in the eastern section transformed into the Darby Bend Lakes area, where four connected lakes now offer boating, fishing, and a dedicated dog swim spot. Trails expanded to showcase the prairie blooms, especially in summer and fall when asters and goldenrods light up the fields. Partnerships with groups like The Nature Conservancy highlighted the park's role in protecting the Darby Creek watershed, often called one of the "Last Great Places" for its water quality and biodiversity. Visitors from around central Ohio started discovering it as a quieter alternative to busier spots closer in.
Restoration work continued into the 2010s, including wet prairie projects on about 190 acres to enhance hydrology and native plant diversity. The park's size reached over 2,200 acres, incorporating more floodplain along Big Darby Creek for flood storage and wildlife habitat. Amenities like parking at Sycamore Plains and Darby Bend Lakes improved access, drawing hikers, kayakers, and birders. Events and programs began emphasizing the prairie theme, from guided walks on blooming seasons to educational talks about pre-settlement landscapes. These efforts helped solidify Prairie Oaks as a showcase for ecological recovery in the Metro Parks system.
Today, Prairie Oaks stands out for blending restored prairie with creek-side adventure, just a short drive from the west side. Its history mirrors the Metro Parks' shift toward large-scale habitat restoration in the 21st century. The park continues to evolve with ongoing stewardship, protecting what remains of the Darby Plains while offering locals a place to experience tallgrass vistas and oak openings. Whether paddling the lakes or walking the trails, it's a reminder of how much the region has changed since settlement — and how intentional work can bring some of it back.
**Map of the Park**
Here is a [map of Prairie Oaks](https://www.metroparks.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/POK_map_1980.jpg).
**Summary**
For this event, we will hike the Coneflower, Alder, and Sycamore Plains Trails, and, depending on conditions, the Osage Opening and Tall Grass Trails, or Lake View, Mound, Darby Creek Greenway, and River Rock Trails around the lakes. Either way, we'll go around 4.5 to 5 miles.
For the most part, this won't be a terribly strenuous hike; Prairie Oaks tends to be flat. However, some of the hike won't be shaded, so be prepared for the possibility of some sun. Parts of the trails may also be muddy or wet, so I recommend [hiking shoes](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D972KN3W) and a change of socks.
**Where We'll Meet**
* Enter the Park at the main entrance at 3225 NE Plain City-Georgesville Rd. If you put "Prairie Oaks Metro Parks" into your Google Maps, it should default to this main address (but double-check to be sure).
* After you enter the Park, the first parking lot on your right is the Park Office. Keep driving past this lot.
* Enter the second parking lot you come to (which is also on your right). There's a picnic area, playground, and latrine here. There's no water fountain, though, so I recommend you bring water of your own, at least for after the hike.
* I've included a screen shot in the Photos, below, where I've circled in blue the main Park entrance as well as the picnic area we're meeting at.
**After the Hike**
After we're done surveying the prairie grasses, we'll head over to [Crooked Can Brewing](https://crookedcanohio.com/) for [drinks](https://www.crookedcanohio.com/beer) and [food](https://www.crookedcanohio.com/center-street-market). The brewery has an entire food court, and they have a large free parking lot next to the [Early Television Museum](https://www.earlytelevision.org/).
The actual address of the brewery is [5354 Center St, Hilliard, OH 43026](https://www.google.com/maps/place/5354+Center+St,+Hilliard,+OH+43026/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x883893f9ede6d5fb:0xbecf42d7055d9006?sa=X&ved=1t:242&ictx=111). We should be there by 5 if you can't make the hike and just want to join us for drinks.
