SOMETHING YOU LOVE
SOMETHING YOU LOVE
A special event to uplift, inspire, and provoke new ideas. **THE BACKSTORY:** At a recent [THOUGHT EXPERIMENTS IN PUBS](https://www.meetup.com/thought-experiments-in-pubs) event, someone on my table said: ***“This is the best book I’ve ever read”*.** The rest of us leaned in a little further and paid closer attention. The person told us about a book they'd read, years ago, and how it had changed their life. This moment stuck in my mind and I found myself pondering the idea of other people as curators, or filters of information. In a time where we have access to unprecedented amounts of information, filtering is valuable. It felt like a privilege to hear about someone's *favourite* book. It was also very uplifting to hear someone talk so positively about something they love. **So, I envisioned** **a meetup where people would have the opportunity to share something they love and to hear what other people love right off the bat.** **What kinds of things do you mean?** **Anything!** * A song that moves you * The time of day when you feel most alive * An idea you came across recently * A memory * A character (etc. etc.). **HOW WE'LL DO IT, logistically:** * Split into small groups, 3-4 people * 20 minutes to share about your respective 'artefacts'. I will play a sound every 5 minutes so that you have a sense of the time and can make sure everyone has space to talk. * Shuffle groups * Another 20 minutes in a new group to share about your original 'artefact' or something new * Shuffle groups * A final 20 minutes for either another round of shares, or free flowing conversation This is a pilot event, so the format is still subject to evolution, but **if you feel like being presented with a unique bouquet of other people’s favourite things, please join us.** **NOTES ON THE GENERAL ATMOSPHERE**: * Relaxed, laid back, friendly. * No pressure to share. * Everyone loves a good listener. Be generous and respectful with your listening. * Feel free to suggest tweaks to the format, there's always room for improvement. **WHERE WE'LL MEET**: This group will be at The Betjeman Arms. The nearest Tube station is King's Cross St. Pancras. You can access the pub either from the street (entrance to the right of The St Pancras Hotel entrance) or via St Pancras Station (entrance from the upstairs train platforms). We'll be in the private dining room - ask at the bar if you can't find us. **WHO SHOULD COME**: Everyone! The more perspectives, the richer the conversation. This group is not about presenting a perfect share, its about offering something you love to the group and listening to other people's 'loves'. In doing so, we hope to inspire, uplift, and get to know one another. I'm so looking forward to meeting & talking with you in this beautiful pub :-) You can read more about my rationale for meetups like this here: [SUBSTACK](https://experimentsingroupwisdom.substack.com/) And if you would like to further support them, you can do so here: ['buy me a coffee'](https://buymeacoffee.com/bonnyastor) Thank you!
London Philosophy Cafe
London Philosophy Cafe
We have reserved the Chicester Room in ther pub for us . Please ask for Philosophy cafe at the door and they will direct you . We like to break into small groups and have a healthy discussion about life , philosophy and ideas . We break out into groups of 6 to discuss three questions over 45min to 1 hour; and then spend another 45min feeding back into the main group. The three topics are chosen on the day by vote, and largely derived from suggestions on the day. We welcome new ideas , so please come up with suggestions or topics that you want to talk about . There is no specific topic list and you do not need to read or know anything particular about philosophy . The official time is 7-9: 30 pm , but we usually go into a pub mode after 9:30 pm and continue our discusssions.

Should philosophers preach with poetry, or get straight to the point?
Should philosophers preach with poetry, or get straight to the point?
O, wouldst thou have philosophers preach in verse's sweet song, Or speak in plainest terms, with nary a poetic throng? Doth 't lie with he who wouldst learn to unravel the enigma spoke, Or with the wise one, who doth bid thee ponder and invoke? Or shall 't be both, in balance of words both high and low? What profit and loss doth come from times of mystery's dark veil, And times of revelations stark and plain, with room for none to fail? What say you, good scholars, in this tangle of persuasive might?

SOLD OUT • TEiP DEEP: A small group, deep dive into a single Thought Experiment
A **smaller, quieter, and less rushed** edition of THOUGHT EXPERIMENTS IN PUBS. At TEiP DEEP, we have the chance to spend a whole hour and a half on **one thought experiment**, exploring different perspectives, coming up with new questions, listening and learning from one another. **How it works:** \- We split into small groups for each chapter of the thought experiment \(3\-4\)\. \- We shuffle every 25 mins to meet new people and change things up\. \- And at the end we'll have a brief group reflection\, sharing ideas and insights \- this will be lightly facilitated to ensure that everyone has a chance to speak if they want to \(no pressure\)\. Some simple ground rules to keep our conversation the best it can be: * respect for one another’s perspectives, beliefs, time (etc.) * confidentiality of personal stories * own your perspective * you don’t have to talk if you don’t want to. Our aim is the same as our bigger Thought Experiments in Pubs meetups: **a chance to meet and talk at about meaningful, thought provoking things**. Although we’ll be going a bit ‘deeper’, we’ll keep the intention to have an enjoyable evening, with good humour and fun. Places are limited to 15-20 people and tickets are £5. Please update your RSVP if you can no longer attend so that someone else can have your place. **Who should come:** Everyone! We believe that the more perspectives, the richer the conversation. This group is not about being experts in Philosophy, it is about *doing* philosophy. That is, bringing our various life experiences and lenses on the world to group discussions about the human experience, the nature of reality...etc. etc.... **Where we'll meet:** The Fitzroy Tavern in Fitzrovia. The nearest Tube stations are Goodge Street and Tottenham Court Road. Looking forward to meeting & talking with you :-) **[WHATSAPP GROUP](https://chat.whatsapp.com/D13LHw5BV3rEtUtO3ORklC)** \- stay in the loop **[INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/thoughtexperimentsinpubs/)** \- see what we look like **[FACEBOOK](www.facebook.com/thoughtexperimentsinpub)** \- ditto **[WEBSITE](www.alltogether.one)** \- sign up to the newsletter\, support\, & feed back \*\*[ALTERNATIVE PLATFORM FOR TICKETS](https://tribeirl.com/thought-experiments-in-pubs) \- tribe\*\* #philosophyinpubs #inclusivity #openmindedness #deepdive #TEiPdeep

Let's Discuss... Intuition
Let's Discuss... Intuition
Intuition is "... the deep thing in us, the reasoned argument is but a surface exhibition."(William James, The Varieties of Religious Experience) Intuition has the answer to the most important questions in life. questions like: What is my purpose? How do I find a meaning in my existence? Should I make a major career change? Should I end a relationship? How does valuing reason over intuition effect peoples life? How can we bring back our intuition? How does reason trump intuition? \*Please do your own research and share resources related to this topic in the comment section\* #======# Donation! The Unknown: Spirit, Chaos & Creative Writing + Food, Drinks & a FREE Book!
The Unknown: Spirit, Chaos & Creative Writing + Food, Drinks & a FREE Book!
## [You're welcome to book your space directly via our website, here: https://www.writeandpint.com/events/the-unknown-spirit-chaos-and-creative-writing-food-drink-handouts-a-pub-quiz] ... ## Hello there! So, what do we mean when we say *spirit*? Is there meaning in the universe, or only stories we like to tell ourselves? Does God exist, or not, and what happens when certainty collapses? What do we do with chaos, doubt, nihilism, mystery, and the things we can't know for certain? This Write & Pint workshop invites you into **The Unknown**: the vast, unsettled territory where existential questions, spiritual longing, disbelief, myth, and imagination meet. Not to resolve these questions, but to **live inside them**, to test language against the ineffable, and create. Together, we’ll be touching on themes like: * Meaning, being, and time * God (or not), belief, disbelief, and doubt * Spirit (across traditions: Abrahamic, Buddhist, Taoist, mystical, and esoteric) * Chaos, nihilism, and creative destruction * Mystical atheism and radical unknowing * Conspiracy, esoterica, spaghetti monsters, little green men, and the stories we invent to survive/make sense 👽 This is, of course, a **creative writing day**, designed to help you generate new fiction and/or poetry through guided prompts and shared enquiry. ## What we’ll read Across the day, we’ll draw from a wide range of writers, poets, mystics, philosophers, and mythic traditions. These will be **short excerpts, fragments, and quotations** used as sparks for writing, not as material to analyse in depth. So, there will be **plenty of time to write**. The readings exist only to open doors. Texts may include brief passages or quoted lines from: ### Fiction, Philosophy & Cultural Thought * **Fyodor Dostoevsky** * **Sergey Nechaev** (via *The Master of Petersburg*) * **Albert Camus** * **J. M. Coetzee** * **Jacques Derrida** * **Simone Weil** * **Clarice Lispector** * **Anne Carson** * **Louise Glück** ### Mystical & Non-Western Traditions * **Rabia al-Adawiyya** * **Hafiz** * **Rumi** * **Kabir** * **Mirabai** * **Ryokan** * **Han Shan** * **Chögyam Trungpa** * Selections from the **Tao Te Ching** ### Folklore & Myth * **Amos Tutuola** * **Birago Diop** These voices allow us to move beyond certainty, beyond Western rationalism, beyond fixed belief, and into paradox, absence, longing, humour, terror, devotion, doubt, and not-knowing. ## What we’ll write You’ll be guided through a series of **creative writing exercises and prompts** designed to help you write fiction and/or poetry around *The Unknown*, whatever that means to you. There is **no pressure to share**, though you’ll be warmly invited to if you wish. As always, our intention is to gather **likeminded, creative, enquiring, compassionate people**, writers, readers, thinkers, believers, atheists, doubters, and question-askers alike. ## Schedule **11:00am** Arrive, order your tea or coffee, settle in, meet some friendly faces. **11:00–11:30am** Introductory writing exercises to familiarise ourselves with words, images, feelings, and intuitions around *The Unknown*. **11:30am–1:00pm** Short readings and quotations paired with creative writing prompts. **1:00pm** Lunch break: a Finch’s pub brunch. **2:00–4:00pm** More writing, more prompts, more exploration. You’ll leave with new material to take home, edit, and keep. **4:00–5:00pm** 🎉 **The Write & Pint Pub Quiz** A fun, light-hearted general knowledge quiz covering culture, films, literature, history, and society, a playful way to end the day together. ... If you have any question at all, about this full day workshop or any of our other events, you're very welcome to text or WhatsApp me on +44 (0) 7534 981 636. Cheers! Sean (A Write & a Pint).

See you there 👋 **What is Product Pints, anyway?** It's simple: Forget the stuffy presentations, Product Pints is all about meaningful connections and stimulating conversations for product people. Our diverse crowd includes everyone from aspiring PMs to seasoned CPOs, entrepreneurs, developers, designers, and tech enthusiasts. Need advice on a tricky problem? Curious what other PMs are building? Or just want to share a beer with your peers? This is the perfect opportunity to grow your network and launch some genuinely great chats! **P.S. Spec-Driven Development with GitHub Spec-Kit - Barret Blake
Spec-Driven Development with GitHub Spec-Kit - Barret Blake
**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you. The building address is 4450 Bridge Park The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400 You will need to scan your ID at the door to get a visitor badge. **Abstract** *Spec-Driven Development with GitHub Spec-Kit: From Intent to Implementation* Spec-driven development flips the traditional workflow on its head: instead of code being the source of truth, the specification becomes the backbone of design, collaboration, and delivery. In this session, we’ll explore how GitHub Spec-Kit enables teams to treat specifications as first-class artifacts—living documents that drive architecture, implementation, and verification. You’ll learn how Spec-Kit helps teams clearly express intent using structured, version-controlled specs that live alongside code. We’ll walk through a practical workflow that starts with defining system behavior and constraints, then progressively refines those specs into testable, automatable outcomes. Along the way, we’ll show how specs can reduce ambiguity, improve cross-functional collaboration, and make design decisions explicit before a single line of production code is written. This talk will cover: --What spec-driven development is (and what it isn’t) --How GitHub Spec-Kit fits into modern developer workflows --Using specs to align product, engineering, and AI-assisted development --Real-world examples of turning specs into implementations with confidence Whether you’re building greenfield systems, integrating AI into your stack, or trying to reduce costly rework, spec-driven development offers a scalable way to move faster without sacrificing clarity. Attendees will leave with concrete patterns and a clear mental model for adopting GitHub Spec-Kit in their own projects. **YouTube Link** TBA
