Cafe Conversations
Cafe Conversations
Come along for lively, interesting conversation about a variety of topics with friendly people of all ages and backgrounds. There is a list of many interesting ideas for discussion. Everyone is encouraged to choose a question that interests them, to contribute to the conversation and to listen to one another’s answers with respect. We avoid talking about politics, religion and personal issues. There are always two hosts who make sure that everyone has a chance to speak. DON'T BE SHY - GIVE IT A TRY, EVEN IF YOUR ENGLISH ISN’T PERFECT! It is free, and there is no obligation to spend money in the café. I also promote this via other local websites, so more people turn up than it says on this site.

Philosophy in the Park 140
Philosophy in the Park 140
Philosophy in the Park is a philosophical discussion group. Open to all. No previous philosophical experience necessary. We will meet at the Baroness Burdett Coutts Drinking Fountain in Victoria Park (East Park). It is marked down as "13" on the official maps found in the park. Here's how it works: * At the start of each hour vote on which questions to discuss. You can vote for more than one question if you'd like. The questions with the most votes are the questions we discuss. * We then break up into groups and each group does a different question. The question is just a starting point and it's cool if you go on tangents and up end talking about different things. You're welcome to join in and participate or if you'd prefer you're welcome to sit back and enjoy the conversation. After an hour we all come back together, take a quick break and then repeat all over again. So in 3 hours we go around 3 times. The aim is to have fun, meet new people, generate interesting and thought-provoking conversations, have your horizons expanded, challenge your preconceptions and who knows - you might even learn something? In order to make the conversations as fun, interesting and productive for everyone as possible please follow these simple guidelines: 1. Keep it Philosophical (No Science, no History, no Sociology, no Evolutionary Psychology, no contestable facts, personal anecdotes etc). 2. Think for Yourself (No phones, no looking up definitions, no name dropping Philosophers / books you've read). 3. Tangents are Cool (Don't worry too much if the subject drifts and you don't answer the question). 4. Keep it Succinct (Like this). 5. Be Excellent to Each Other (But of course). Philosophy is about conceptual analysis. It's thinking about thinking. It's not about empiricism or the real world. It's about abstractions, concepts and ideas. To terms of the right attitude: It's not about debating and trying to win - it's about listening to people and working collaboratively to increase our collective understanding. No homework or prior knowledge or reading is necessary - simply come and enjoy the discussions. After the event finishes we have an area reserved in The Shakespeare pub which is just around the corner from the Barbican. You are very welcome to join us if you'd like. If you would like to submit a question please join the Whatsapp group. Question submissions take place on the Thursday before the meeting. We hope to see you there. Nice one. ... London Society TALK - Deep conversations Green Park
London Society TALK - Deep conversations Green Park
Have you ever wanted to gather together and talk about insightful topics which broadens your thinking and knowledge? If so, this may be the right event for you. Welcome to the ‘Deep conversations’ event where you get the opportunity to share your views based on the topics that we may cover. The last time this was executed, it not only went well but we managed to learn from one another which broadened our thinking. We have a new twist: The event will take place at Green park and it won’t be capped. The way it works is you’ll be numbered from 1 - 5 and then you get together in your groups based on your number. The process repeats itself after each topic until the event is finished so it’s opportunistic to interact with new faces and hear interesting views. With this particular event, the topics we’ll discuss are: * What does family mean to you? * What do you appreciate from your parents the most? * They say ‘blood makes you related and loyalty makes you family’. What’s your take on this? * Do you think character is important or time when it comes to knowing people? * Was there ever a time where someone close to you broke your trust and if so, what did you learn? * Name someone special who entered your life and changed you for the better. We get so preoccupied with daily life that we hardly have a chance to sit back and think as well as discuss many topics in such depth. When was the last time you sat back and thought about anything in depth which opened your eyes to so many possibilities and broadened your thinking? Now is your chance to share your views and learn from one another. By participating in this, you could broaden your ways of thinking, learn new lessons or even heal if you have your hidden struggles. My fellow explorers, if you enjoyed the event, I’m more than happy to accept any donations which of course are optional but will go a long way to help me unlock and deliver even more exciting and engaging events and resources: https://www.paypal.me/calvinjoy WHAT - Deep conversations

This group doesn’t tolerate any misbehaviour and misconduct. Should such a thing take place, you will be removed. If you ask a question that either already has the answer to it or doesn’t relate to the event at all, I won’t respond. Whenever an event takes place, I will cut off contact 20 minutes after the event commences. If you message even 1 minute after the cut off time, I won’t be available as I’m conducting the event. There will be photography and videography by myself so if you are photo conscious and/or do not want to be in the video, do kindly inform me and I’ll try my utmost best to not involve you in the picture. Slow Walk & Deep Talk: Real Connection
Slow Walk & Deep Talk: Real Connection
**[️🎟️ Grab your ticket here ️ 🎟️](https://luma.com/3jyh6a2m)** **➞ There will be 50-60 people coming as I promote this event on multiple platforms.** **Route:** Regent’s Park **Meeting point:** Emailed 24 hours before. **Walking time:** 1 - 3pm **Social:** 3pm onwards Not your average walk club. An intentionally slow-paced social walk built around deeper conversation, real connection, and a more thoughtful kind of socialising, offering the perfect chance to reconnect to yourself, others, and nature. Before we start, everybody will be given carefully curated conversation cards to spark deeper, more honest conversations. If you’re bored of shallow socialising and addictive apps, this is for you. **[️🎟️ Grab your ticket here ️ 🎟️](https://luma.com/3jyh6a2m)** Unseen community hosts monthly socials, dinners & walks in London. We offer curated social experiences in beautiful spaces, designed for curious minds who are bored of shallow socialising and addictive apps, and want deeper conversation & real connection. Register here if you are joining us on the walk. Join our walking club **[WhatSapp community here](https://chat.whatsapp.com/F92j6Cf7wLc2dKciQvg6nu?mode=gi_t)** where I'll send location pins and walk info. **WALK FAQS** **Will there be photography?** Yes. We will take photos and videos during the walk, including some flash. To be excluded, tell a team member before we start. **Where might photos and videos from the walk appear?** On our Instagram, website, emails, press coverage, and sometimes in partner or promotional material. **What’s the vibe like?** Relaxed, thoughtful and friendly. Slow-paced, welcoming, and a bit deeper than your usual social. **What do people do after?** We all go to a cafe and continue the conversations. This is also a great way to meet other groups or people you haven’t spoken to yet. **Who will be hosting?** Myself (Ben) and some some team members/volunteers. **Do I have to have deep conversations?** We encourage using the conversation cards. The point of this walk is to go a bit deeper than a normal social event. If that does not appeal to you, this event may not be for you. **What topics will we be discussing?** Relationships, purpose, personal growth, identity, values, life direction and more. **[️](https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/1987289631785?aff=oddtdtcreator)[🎟️ Grab your ticket here ️ 🎟️](https://luma.com/3jyh6a2m)** **Will it be very intense?** The aim is meaningful conversation, honesty and depth, not forced vulnerability. You do not have to talk about anything you do not want to, such as trauma or things you may be working on in therapy. This is not a therapeutic space, though if you are comfortable discussing more difficult things, that will not be unwelcome. **Do I have to walk slowly? How slow?** The idea is to slow down and take in the greenery, scenery, conversation, and the people around you. Expect a normal to slightly slower-than-normal pace. City walking is usually fast. This will be slower than that, but not painfully slow. **Do I need to come with someone?** No. Lots of people come alone. The format makes it easy to talk to people. **Is every walk in the same location?** No. Each walk takes place in a different part of London, always chosen for its greenery, scenery and nature. **How much walking is involved?** Around 5km at an easy pace. **What should I wear or bring with me?** Wear comfortable shoes and clothes that suit the weather. Bring water. **How often are the walks?** Monthly. **What happens if it rains or the forecast turns?** The walk will usually still go ahead. If conditions are unsafe, I will email everyone with an update. **Are there any behaviour rules?** Yes. Be respectful and do not make the walk uncomfortable for others. Harassment or harmful behaviour is not acceptable. **What should I do if there’s an issue on the day?** Speak to me (Ben) during the walk or email me afterwards so I can look into it properly. **[️🎟️ Grab your ticket here ️ 🎟️](https://luma.com/3jyh6a2m)** **Please note:** Experiences and perspectives may be discussed, but this is not a therapeutic space and does not provide medical or psychological advice.
Borders and Belonging: A Humanist Perspective on Immigration in South Africa
Borders and Belonging: A Humanist Perspective on Immigration in South Africa
In recent months, South Africa has witnessed growing tensions around immigration, identity, economic inequality, and social belonging. Public debate has increasingly focused on questions of migration, citizenship, xenophobia, and the treatment of African migrants within African societies. **The Association of Black Humanists and Bolelang Rakeepile of the South African Atheists** invites members of the public, activists, scholars, students, and community leaders to a thoughtful and respectful discussion exploring these issues through a humanist lens. Together, we will examine: \* What drives hostility toward immigrants and foreign nationals? \* How do colonial history, inequality, and economic hardship shape current attitudes? \* What does humanism teach us about human dignity, solidarity, and shared humanity? \* Can borders coexist with compassion and justice? \* How do we challenge xenophobia while addressing legitimate social concerns? This conversation seeks to encourage critical thinking, empathy, and constructive dialogue at a time when division and fear threaten social cohesion across the continent. Bolelang will lead the discussion and he would also be happy to answer questions from the audience. **Date: 30 May 2026** **Time: 3pm (London time) please arrive by 2.45pm** **Venue: Pembury Community Centre,** **1 Atkins Square, Dalston Lane, E8 1HL** Admission is free and all are welcome. A voluntary donation of £3 would be much appreciated. **No human being is illegal. Our shared humanity must remain greater than our borders!!**

Prompting Is Not Magic: How to Give AI Better Context
Prompting Is Not Magic: How to Give AI Better Context
Most people use AI like a search box: they type one sentence, hope for the best, and get frustrated when the answer is generic, wrong, or useless. But getting better results from tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and other AI systems is not about memorizing magic prompts. It is about learning how to give the AI better context. In this beginner-friendly session, we’ll break down how to make AI dramatically more useful by improving the way you communicate with it. You’ll learn how to give clearer instructions, provide examples, set constraints, ask for better output formats, and use follow-up questions to turn a mediocre answer into a genuinely useful one. We’ll cover practical techniques you can use immediately for work, learning, writing, coding, planning, research, and everyday problem solving. We’ll also touch on why these same ideas show up in more advanced AI systems, including RAG, agents, evaluations, and AI workflows. No technical background required. Bring your curiosity, your questions, and maybe one real task you wish AI was better at helping you with. **What you’ll learn:** * Why “better prompting” is really about better context * How to structure requests so AI gives more useful answers * How to use examples, constraints, and output formats * How to iterate when the first answer is not good enough * How these skills connect to more advanced AI workflows This meetup is for anyone who wants to move beyond basic ChatGPT usage and start getting more practical value out of AI. LOGISTICS AND PARKING: The talk starts at 7:00 PM. The first half hour is reserved for everyone to get set up and mingle. Free pizza and drinks! The cheapest parking option is to find street parking, which will only cost you a few bucks. Otherwise, park in the nearby veteran's museum lot for $8. It's highly recommended you avoid the nearby $15 garage parking.
