Jurassic Coast Hiking Weekend – Lyme Regis & Cerne Giant – 4 days / 3 nights
Join us for a spectacular long weekend exploring West Dorset and the Jurassic Coast, one of England’s most dramatic and rewarding walking landscapes. This four-day Adventure Women UK trip focuses on the western end of Dorset, taking in sweeping coastal paths, rolling chalk downland, ancient hill forts and classic villages — offering big views, fresh sea air and a real sense of journey across the landscape
Over the weekend, we’ll walk a carefully balanced mix of routes, starting with the coastline around Abbotsbury and Chesil Beach, building to a longer and more demanding coastal day to Golden Cap, and finishing with gentler but still rewarding walks to round off the trip. The programme is designed to offer variety and challenge without rushing, with time to pause, take photos and enjoy being out on the trail.
This itinerary is distinct from our previous East Dorset trips, showcasing the wilder landscapes and iconic highlights that make West Dorset such a special place to explore on foot.
This is a women-only trip with a supportive, friendly atmosphere, ideal for women who enjoy good walking, shared adventure and exploring beautiful places together — whether you’re coming solo or with a friend.
Our base for the weekend is The Cow Shed in Toller Porcorum, a comfortable group house set on the edge of the Kingcombe National Nature Reserve, owned and run by Dorset Wildlife Trust. Surrounded by countryside and wildlife-friendly gardens, it provides a peaceful retreat after full days on the hills, with all bedrooms en-suite and relaxed communal spaces to unwind.
Evenings are flexible and sociable — we’ll either eat out together at local pubs and restaurants or you’re very welcome to use the self-catering facilities at the accommodation, depending on preference.
Planned Walks
Day 1 – Abbotsbury & Chesil Beach
\~11 km \| 270 m ascent \| 3–4 hrs \| Grade 2 – Moderate
A stunning coastal introduction to the weekend, taking in wide views across Chesil Beach and the Fleet Lagoon. Rolling paths, sea air and expansive horizons make this an ideal first walk — scenic, uplifting and a great way to ease into the trip after travelling.
Day 2 – Hardy’s Monument to Maiden Castle
\~19 km \| 425 m ascent \| 5\.5–6 hrs \| Grade 3 – Challenging
A longer inland day across classic West Dorset chalk downland. This route links Hardy’s Monument with Maiden Castle, one of Europe’s largest Iron Age hill forts. Expect wide open views, steady climbs and a strong sense of history. A satisfying full day on the hills without technical terrain.
Day 3 – Lyme Regis & Golden Cap
\~14\.5 km \| 540 m ascent \| 4\.5–5\.5 hrs \| Grade 3 – Challenging
The standout coastal day and a real highlight of the weekend. This dramatic Jurassic Coast walk includes sustained climbs, cliff-top paths and big sea views as we pass through some of Dorset’s most iconic scenery. We finish in Lyme Regis, with free time after the walk to relax on the beach, explore the town, enjoy an ice cream and soak up the seaside atmosphere before returning to accommodation.
Day 4 – Cerne Abbas & the Cerne Giant
\~10 km \| 260 m ascent \| 3–3\.5 hrs \| Grade 2 –
Moderate We finish with a gentler inland walk through the historic village of Cerne Abbas, passing beneath the famous Cerne Giant. Rolling countryside, steady climbs and a relaxed pace make this a perfect final day — sociable, scenic and relaxed walk before heading home.

In the evening, the group gathers for dinner and discusses the upcoming climb to Machu Picchu.
**Day 14 - Inca Trail 4 (Friday)**
The final day, starts early at 4:00 am with a hike up to Machu Picchu, lasting about 1.5 hours. At the citadel, a 2-hour guided tour covers the most significant parts of Machu Picchu. Post-tour, there's free time for personal exploration. The journey concludes with a return to Aguas Calientes to collect belongings, followed by a train ride to Ollantaytambo. From there, a bus takes you back to Cusco, which we should be there for the afternoon, but allow time to overrun, we will spend a final night in Cusco.
**Day 15 - Final Day in Peru (Saturday)**
We will spend a final morning in Cusco before getting an early afternoon flight back to Lima where we can make our connecting flight back home and say our goodbyes. For those who are joining us for the Amazon Adventure, we can carry on from there.

Nordic Walking Brockwell Park
Ready to get outside? Our Friday morning Nordic Walk in Brockwell Park is back!
At this moment we can meet with up to 30 people (of more than two households) to do outdoor exercise and walks. However, i like to keep our exercise groups small, so I have set the maximum participants at 12.
For now this walk is for our experienced Nordic Walkers only, who already used to Nordic Walk with us regularly before Covid 19 kept us indoors, and who have their own Nordic Walking poles.
As this session is outdoors, we will not ask you to wear a face mask, but we do ask you to keep 2 meters apart. Some of our walkers might be immune compromised or more at risk, so please help us keep everyone safe!
Please do not come to the session and stay at home if:
- you know you have been in contact - in the last 2 weeks- with someone with symptoms of possible Covid, or if you have been in contact with someone who tested positive.
- you have any of the following symptoms: (new) Loss of smell/taste, Persistent cough, Fatigue, Loss of appetite, Skin rash, Hives, Fever, Severe muscle pain, Shortness of breath, Diarrhoea, Delirium, Abdominal pain, Chest pain, Hoarse voice, Eye soreness, Sore or painful throat, Nausea or vomiting, Headache, Dizziness or light headedness
We meet by the Blackbird bakery in Herne Hill, between the station and the park.
Session Price: £10 per session, £89 for a 10-session card or £70 unlimited sessions per month. Session cards and Pay Monthly can be used in any of our outdoor walks or indoor Zoom classes sessions (except for the Parkinson's sessions).
Pay What Works:
The price shown above is the “true” value of the session that best reflects the work I put into preparing and leading your session. However, I understand that not everyone can afford to pay full price, and I don’t want that to stop you from joining us.
In an effort to find a balance between more financial accessibility and sustainable pricing, I now offer a “Pay What Works” model. This allows for financial flexibility while still valuing and respecting the work and energy I provide in creating and delivering these classes.
Then send an email to ailien@fitandhappyoutdoors.com with the heading “INVOICE please”- followed by “FAHO 1” to pay full price as quoted below, “FAHO 2”, for 20% off, or “FAHO 3” for 50% off.
Please do tell me if you want to pay for 10 sessions, or if you’d like to pay monthly.
I prefer payment by bank transfer, but if that is not possible you could pay in cash. No cheques please, the queues by the banks are just too long.
We walk in all safe weather conditions – if a walk is cancelled, we will contact you to let you know. Please check for text messages or Meetup messages before leaving home!

🐬South African Sardine Run - 1 WEEK INSIDE A NATURE DOCUMENTARY 🐋
**1 week of an exclusive, small-group ocean expedition for freedivers, photographers, and wildlife enthusiasts! If you love the ocean, this trip is for you.**
Each year, the waters off South Africa’s Wild Coast transform into one of the planet’s most dramatic natural events. Billions of sardines migrate along the Wild Coast, making it one of the largest animal migrations on the planet. It attracts a diverse range of predators, from dolphins and sharks to whales and seabirds - all converging in a feeding spectacle few ever witness up close.
The Sardine Run remains one of the most spectacular events on earth. Each day, ocean conditions, currents, and predator behavior determine what you’ll encounter. You’ll spend your days following the pulse of the sea - sometimes waiting, sometimes immersed in pure chaos and raw nature beauty.
We partner with a trusted local dive operator with extensive experience running ocean expeditions along the Wild Coast. Their skilled skippers, dive crews, and wildlife spotters bring a deep understanding of the area’s conditions and marine life, ensuring safety, precision, and ethical wildlife encounters.

FREE SUNDAY HIKE - Viaduct, River, Castle & Lavender: A Darent Valley Loop
Looking for a Sunday that feels like a soft slice of summer? Join us for a beautiful 12–15 km loop through the Darent Valley, where riverside paths, rolling green fields, and blooming lavender come together in one of Kent's most charming landscapes.
This valley has been shaped by centuries of life and travel, and you feel it as soon as you step onto the trail. We'll pass beneath the towering arches of the Eynsford Viaduct, a Victorian engineering landmark that has carried trains across the valley since the 1860s. Further along, the route brushes past the historic grounds of Lullingstone Castle, a Tudor manor once visited by Henry VIII and home to the Hart Dyke family for over 500 years.
From there, the path opens into the quiet lanes of Shoreham village and the purple shimmer of the lavender fields drifting across the hillsides.
As we move through meadows, woodlands, and open countryside, the day settles into that easy summer rhythm where everything feels unhurried and lightly golden.
It's the kind of walk where the scenery does the talking: the river winding beside us, the scent of lavender in the warm air, and the countryside unfolding in soft greens and purples — a Sunday that feels sun-warmed, peaceful, and just a little bit dreamy.
We will head to a pub near the station when we finish for a pint or/and lunch.

🥾 **Hike Description**
This is the **legendary Fourteen Sisters hike**, created by Outdooraholics in 2013 as a tougher, more exhilarating version of the famous **Seven Sisters coastal trail**. While we run the classic Seven Sisters hike often, this unique challenge sees us hike the route **twice — in both directions**. It is an epic day of white cliffs, rolling downs, and endless sea views.
We begin in the seaside town of **Eastbourne**, heading west along the **South Downs Way** to tackle the Seven Sisters for the first time. The chalk cliffs have been shaped over thousands of years by natural erosion processes, and form one of the most dramatic coastlines in England. In fact, there are now eight Sisters, as coastal erosion has created a new one over time. Along the way we pass **Birling Gap** and the iconic **Belle Tout lighthouse**, famously moved 17 metres inland in 1999 to save it from the encroaching sea.
After completing the Seven Sisters, the challenge really begins: we turn around and hike the **entire route back again**. The return journey rewards us with fresh perspectives and equally breathtaking views, as the cliffs and rolling downs look entirely different in reverse. Each hill is a new test, and by the end of the day you’ll have conquered around **16 climbs** in total.
**Toughness – can I really do this?**
We’re not going to deceive you — for most people this will be a tough physical challenge. We hike over about **16 hills** in total during the day, covering **26km** at a fairly brisk pace (not a stroll). Most fit and regular hikers should be able to take this on, but it is not suitable for beginners. There are safe exit points if needed, but please only sign up if this kind of challenge appeals — the Fourteen Sisters is our **toughest London-based hike**.

**Cliffs – danger**
There are sheer drops off the cliffs and some of these soft chalk cliffs are crumbling at the edges with chunks regularly falling and no fencing in place. Please keep at least 3 metres away from the edges. If you fall, or the ground at the edge of the cliff collapses it will almost certainly be fatal.
