Ocean Kayaking

A great way to experience kayaking on the Thames as a first timer or newish paddler with reasonable fitness (2hrs of actual paddling), with [Edge Progressive Paddling](https://edgepaddling.com/). The session will be led by a very experienced Coach who will keep you safe and provide instruction. Meet at the Kew Bridge arches (Brentford side - see map). We will paddle downstream with the tide, towards Barnes and then return with the tide. Boat, paddle & buoyancy aid will be provided. Dress for the weather: man-made fibres that don't hold water, waterproof if it looks like rain; for your feet closed toe shoes that you don't mind getting muddy e.g. old trainers, wetsuit boots or water shoes. You may get a bit wet so bring a change of clothing and shoes for afterwards. Changing facilities are available at the arches - arrive a little early please if you need to change beforehand. Mix up your week the best way possible with a Wednesday night climb. A member of the team will be on hand to give tips, work routes and provide some laughs. This session is mainly aimed for beginner's, whether you have never climbed before or you want to pick up where you left off couple years ago, rest assured whatever your level or ability, one of our trained instructors will be at hand to help. The aim of the session is to climb with like minded folk, learn the best way to climb possible, and hopefully get a little stronger. For those that RSVP we have arranged £16.50 entry (this includes shoe rental) to City Bouldering on Wednesday evening if you come along with us as a meetup group! Cruise up the Upper Alum Creek on your kayak through the Osprey viewing area, winding your way past the tiny village of Kilbourne, and then landing at Henmick Farm & Brewery for a lunch on their patio with a wide selection of beers. Chose from their several food trucks. Don't enjoy too much as we have to paddle, at least downstream, back to our launch site. We launch at 9:30 from the Howard Road Boat Launch of the Alum Creek State Park. Ample parking and a kayak launch. Kayaks or canoes advised. Recreational paddleboarders might have a tough-time with the distance and speed. Please arrive early enough to launch at 9:30. Bring a hat, sunscreen, bug spray, and something to cover up while at Henmick Farm.
