The Mallard Mile
Join PAM for a beer mile fundraiser for Pro-Animal D.C.!
If you’ve never heard of a beer mile, it’s simple and hilarious: you chug a 12oz drink, run/walk a lap, and repeat that four times until you hit a mile. **Check-in is at 7:30 PM, and the single-heat race kicks off at 8:00 PM,** but anyone can also just come to watch! It will be quite the spectacle.
We’ll have music and pizza. If you want to run, it’s $25 to enter. All of the funds go towards helping ducks and geese by funding our I-86 campaign to end force-feeding and the sales of force-fed products in DC. All donations are currently being 100% MATCHED by a generous donor! Your $25 registration instantly becomes $50 to help animals.
Register here: [https://forms.gle/xEaDn31faRoVVP9c7](https://forms.gle/xEaDn31faRoVVP9c7)
This event is completely BYOB. Cans or plastic bottles only, no glass. If you’re under 21, don't drink alcohol, or just prefer a different vibe, you are absolutely welcome to swap the beer for your favorite soda, seltzer, or kombucha. We won't be checking IDs, so please just follow the law. Let’s get crazy for animals!
If you’re running/walking, bring a 4-pack of canned, animal-product-free beverages (in the spirit of the campaign.) Feel free to bring along any extra veg snacks or sides you'd like to share alongside the pizza. You might also want a picnic chair or blanket. If you have them, bring hype gear like cowbells, whistles, or noisemakers to cheer on the runners.
Street parking is the best option.
Warm Brews & Good Vibes
For our first meetup, let’s keep things super simple with a casual coffee hangout to chat and get to know each other. There is no pressure and no heavy topics. We want to create a safe, relaxed space for introverts to step out at their own pace

**Speakers**
Chelsea Acheampong (Nova Hospitality): Nova Hospitality is a consumer travel platform connecting conscious travelers directly with verified eco-lodges and community-run properties, redirecting tourism revenue back into local communities through transparent impact verification and direct booking
Cameron Peltz (Caldarium): Caldarium is a health admin tech company building software solutions for medical practices, to automate prior authorization paperwork and detect errors in reimbursement claims, to ensure compliance and reduce their rate of rejection by Medicare and insurance payers, getting patients the medicine and surgeries they need more quickly and reliably, and doctor's offices paid for their properly documented procedures correctly the first time and therefore in consistent better financial health.
Achinth Murali (Open Judgement Engineering): The Open Judgment Engine (OJE) is an open-source methodology and AI-assisted platform that captures the reasoning behind non-routine engineering decisions — when a judgment applies, when it doesn’t, what the expert does, why it works, and what failure it guards against — as structured, attributed artifacts called Judgment Primitives, embedded directly into the workflow gates where engineers already make those decisions. The goal is to make expert engineering judgment portable, searchable, and permanent — so that when a senior engineer retires, the reasoning behind their decisions doesn’t retire with them.
Join us for our monthly Pitch Labs meetup! This event will bring together start-up founders and enthusiasts in the DMV area for an exciting opportunity to hear about a fellow founder, and give feedback on their pitch and product, and get to network around founders from the area.

REST, RESTORE, RECONNECT: When Slowing Down Feels Hard
This offering, *Rest. Restore. Reconnect: When Slowing Down Feels Hard*, was born from a truth I know intimately — that rest isn’t always easy. That stillness can feel unfamiliar. That slowing down can bring us face-to-face with everything we’ve been carrying.
**And yet… it’s also where the healing begins.**

**DATES: Saturday, June 13, Saturday, June 20, and Saturday, June 27**
**TIMES: 10 AM - 11 AM**
Over the course of three Saturdays, we’ll gather in a space at the **Black Owned Teahouse: [Adjourn Teahouse](https://adjournteahouse.com) in Lanham, MD,** intentionally curated for softness, support, and gentle return. Through yin + restorative yoga therapy, you’ll be guided to release tension, regulate your nervous system, and reconnect with your body in a way that feels safe and sustainable.
This is not about doing more.
This is about allowing yourself to *be*.
And because your experience matters beyond the mat, each session will close with a beautiful tea time — a moment to integrate, connect, and savor. There will be other thoughtful touches woven throughout… little surprises to deepen your experience and make each gathering feel like a retreat from the noise of everyday life.
If you’ve been feeling stretched, overwhelmed, or disconnected…
If your body has been asking you to slow down, but you haven’t known how…
This space was created with you in mind.

People’s Pan-African Wellness Front
D.C.’s healthcare system, like the rest of the U.S., is profit-driven and structurally racist. Black residents—especially those east of the Anacostia River—suffer from higher rates of chronic illness and maternal mortality and life expectancy gaps of over 15 years compared to white residents. Pan-African Community Action (PACA) has launched a revolutionary survival program to provide practical services while building political power. **[The People’s Pan-African Wellness Front (PPWF)](https://pacapower.org/our-work/programs/ppwf/)** is a community-based grassroots program led by PACA to confront the health disparities impacting African/Black working-class communities in Southeast Washington, D.C. Inspired by revolutionary legacies like the Black Panther Party’s People’s Free Medical Clinics and the Cuban healthcare model, this program seeks to deliver immediate relief while organizing toward long-term self-determination and community control of health.
The PPWF will provide:
* Free high blood pressure screenings
* Free glucose tests (diabetes screening) (available upon request)
* Free hygiene products and medical supplies
* Free health information and guidance for preventative care
As well as political education on community control of health and radical health programs, including the Black Panther Party’s Free Medical Clinics and the Lincoln Detox Center. Medical professionals will also be available to answer health-related questions. Come out March 22nd either to receive services and/or to learn how to come involved with later phases of the program to scale up services, expand into more neighborhoods, and anchor broader campaigns around community control. This effort is part of PACA’s broader strategy to build forums for participatory democracy and build a mass movement for power.
*This is more than a health program—it’s a step toward Black self-determination. We welcome healthcare workers, students, community members, and all who are ready to organize, learn, and build power*.

Volunteer Opportunity
Open Shelter has teamed up again with Red White and Boom! Friday, July 3rd & we are looking for volunteers to run the event’s alcohol booths. Proceeds from sales go to the Open Shelter’s organization.
There are two available shifts: 12-6p & 5-11p.
There will be an ipad-like device to process transactions in addition to cash. Everything will be in bottles or cans, so transactions should be very easy. Must be 21+.
There are multiple beverage stations along the Civic Center Bridge. The stations are covered and also have beverage trucks next to them, so volunteers can cool off in the trucks.
As far as parking, it is suggested those who are coming from the east use the Columbus Commons Garage, and those from the west use the Belle Street Garage.
Harry from the Open Shelter will be your contact.

Columbus Arduino Raspberry Pi Enthusiasts (CARPE) (Check Location)
Bring your Raspberry Pi, Arduino, microcontroller, or any other electronic project and join fellow electronics makers for a night of creativity and collaboration!
This session is open forum to share your current projects—whether complete or in progress, it’s all interesting! Whether you’re deep into embedded systems, exploring new ideas, or just getting started, you’ll find a welcoming space to collaborate, share, and get inspired.
**New to electronics or curious about tinkering?**
You’re absolutely welcome. If you’re a beginner and want to experiment, I’ll have a couple of starter kits available so you can try things out—whether that’s blinking your first LED, putting something on a display, or experimenting with simple sensors. No pressure and no experience required—just an interest in learning and building.
While we continue to pursue a more permanent venue for this Meetup, we’ll be using public library facilities based on availability.
COUNT RMH Housewarmer Volunteering (Ronald McDonald House)
Some trained COUNT volunteers work together once a month at RMH (http://www.rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer.php) as Housewarmers (usually on the 1st Sunday from 1 – 5 PM). Some schedule other shifts at their convenience. You may try this out with less fuss by following a "Fast track" or go through the normal process.
Fast track
• Arrange a time to shadow a COUNT volunteer. Call Dave Nohle at 614-268-9558 (cell).
• Show up and try it out.
• Complete application, etc. later.
Normal process
• Complete an online application (http://rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer/).
• Attend orientation in advance.
• At orientation you will complete forms agreeing to keep family/patient info private and allowing a background check and tour the facility.
• Complete one training shift. Daily shifts are: morning 9 AM - 1 PM, afternoon 1 - 5 PM and evening 5 - 9 PM.
• Schedule shifts online using the on the RMH scheduling system (http://www.volgistics.com/ex/portal.dll/?FROM=32895).
The Ronald McDonald House (RMH) provides housing and meals for families with sick children. The Columbus RMH is the largest in the world with 137 rooms. COUNT has been volunteering there since May 2014.
Housewarmers work with RMH guests to provide a home-like environment - greet, assist with family needs, answer phones, give tours, assist with checkin/checkout, prepare guest rooms after checkout, clean facility, laundry, restock supplies and staff the front desk. RMH Housewarmers volunteer at least one four-hour shift a month. All Housewarmers must complete an application and agree to a background check before they can be full fledged volunteers.
CMG Gives Back: Serve Dinner at FAITH MISSION GRANT KITCHEN!
Join us as we get together to get together to help those in need at this CMG Gives Back event! We have a great little community of Movie Group friends so rather than see a movie this time, we’ll help “Create a better world” by helping serve those in need. NOTE: We’re switching it up this time and going with a DINNER shift on Mon, 7/6. Here are complete details and our plan for this event:
FAITH MISSION – GRANT KITCHEN: The Faith Mission kitchen and dining room serves residents 3 meals a day, every day of the year. For this event, our group will help prepare food, serve meals, assist residents in the dining room, wash dishes, and clean surfaces.
PLAN: We will be preparing / serving / cleaning for DINNER from 4:30 to 6:30pm and have space for a total of 7 volunteers. Please arrive at 4:20pm and wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.
LOCATION: Faith Mission – Grant Kitchen is located at 245 N. Grant Ave. Enter the kitchen at Dock 1 (in the back of the building), indicated in the attached map. On-site parking in the adjacent lot and street parking are available in the surrounding area. Below are some links / attachments with additional info/details:
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Our group will be providing all of the volunteers on this day so a firm RSVP count is essential. Please only sign up if you are certain you’ll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please try to update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. With few exceptions, no shows or cancelations within 1 week of the event will not be eligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve. Our Partner Agency for this event is Lutheran Social Services! A huge THANK YOU to those volunteering at this (or any of our previous or future) CMG Gives Back events!
Look forward to seeing you there, Dan
