Vibe Coding & OpenClaw
Vibe Coding & OpenClaw
This meetup is for anyone building with OpenClaw (& Claude Code) or experimenting with other AI tools to create agents that can act and make decisions on their own. If you haven’t tried these yet, come hang out, ask questions, and see what others are building. We’ll trade notes, troubleshoot setups, and explore what it takes to run these systems openly on the web instead of inside closed platforms. Bring your laptop, grab some power, and jump into a night that feels part LAN party, part live build session, where people test ideas and show what their agents can actually do. 👉 [RSVP on LUMA](https://luma.com/53dx7no1) We’ll also have some fun by running a live test to see if a few of our agents can send Bitcoin back and forth and talk about why that’s a meaningful step for autonomous AI. It’s a chance to connect the dots between open AI tools, Bitcoin, and the wider goal of creating technology that no one can turn off. 👉 [RSVP on LUMA](https://luma.com/53dx7no1)

Wednesday evening Mindfulness at Unity of Gaithersburg.
Wednesday evening Mindfulness at Unity of Gaithersburg.
Mindfulness Meditation group practice every Wednesday evening at Unity of Gaithersburg. Mindfulness practice is not about achieving some special state of mind; it is more about noticing the experience you are having without trying to change it. This interesting video suggests why you might sit and watch your mind wander off. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmmBF8eTl18 This noticing tends to shift your nervous system from a 'fight-or-flight' state to a more relaxed and receptive state. In this receptive mental state, you begin to see your own experience differently and, over time, see other people and the world differently. Also, it is good for you: "the effect of regular meditation on the cortex was so profound that fifty-year-old meditators had a prefrontal cortex that looked like that of a twenty-five-year-old" [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PLRZVTT](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PLRZVTT) Here is an interesting and funny take on meditation by Ajahn Brahm: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TR60RRmXeYs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TR60RRmXeYs). If you arrive on time, there will be an introduction at the beginning, if you arrive late, find a chair and join us. There will be some discussion after. This is a free event, but contributions to the church's expenses are welcome. You can just show up this Wednesday or subsequent Wednesdays. Meetup #17: Writing Handmade apps
Meetup #17: Writing Handmade apps
We'll come together to talk about writing custom apps. Macoy Madson will show how he applied Handmade principles to creating a custom CAD application for a manufacturing company. He will go over the various features and his criteria for what he picked to build vs buy, as well as lessons learned from the shortcomings of his choices. If we have time, we'll also look at compiling native code to WebAssembly. **Agenda:** \- 2pm \- 3pm: Custom app presentation and WebAssembly \- 3pm \- 4pm: Open\-ended discussions\, presentations\, etc\. \- 4pm \- whenever: We'll go get food nearby\! **What we do** Presentations on lower-level, foundational programming topics, ethical software, knowledge sharing, mentoring, and discussion. **Who we are:** We are all about handmade software. Rather than focus on frameworks, heavy abstractions, and buzzwords - we typically create projects or research topics that build an understanding of foundational computing concepts, essential data structures, and hardware/software interaction. **What to bring?** Bring a laptop, project, or just a curious mind. If you're not sure you're ready to contribute, don't worry: we're all here to share our passions and hone our craft. **If you arrive late:** Please enter the room quietly as to not disrupt anyone that is presenting. We'll progress from Copilot basics to the Copilot CLI, explore how Agents add autonomy, and see how Instructions and Skills let you customize agent behavior. Then, the climax: a live demo where a Squad team of 3 agents (Lead, Developer, Tester) stands up and builds a working application in real-time, showcasing true multi-agent collaboration. Whether you're new to AI or exploring how to scale your use of Copilot, this session will show you what's possible when agents work as a team. **YouTube Link** TBD

Vibe Coding 101: How to Build with AI
Vibe Coding 101: How to Build with AI
Curious about “vibe coding” but not sure what it actually means? This beginner-friendly talk is about how people are using AI to build websites, apps, automations, and small software projects by describing what they want in plain English. We’ll cover what vibe coding is, what AI is good at, where it falls short, and how to actually use it without getting lost. The goal is not to hype AI as magic — it’s to show how to use it as a practical tool. This session is designed for beginners, curious builders, non-programmers, and developers who want a clearer picture of how to build with AI today. Topics include: * What “vibe coding” means * What AI can help you build * Where AI is useful and where it is unreliable * A simple workflow for building with AI * Prompting tips for better results * Common beginner mistakes to avoid If you’ve ever thought, “I have an idea, but I don’t know how to build it,” this talk is for you. LOGISTICS AND PARKING: The talk starts at 7:00 PM. The first half hour is reserved for everyone to get set up and mingle. Free pizza and drinks! The cheapest parking option is to find street parking, which will only cost you a few bucks. Otherwise, park in the nearby veteran's museum lot for $8. It's highly recommended you avoid the nearby $15 garage parking.
