Yes! It’s happening. We finally found an actual cinema for screening! Now we start the The Shorts Show as a **curated one-hour screening of curated short films**. Before the screening we meet for drinks at the Il Kino bar. After the films, we stay, talk about movies, filmmaking and connect with other creatives and film lovers. We want to create a relaxed space for (re)discovering your movies. Let’s mingle with fellow filmmakers and experience independent cinema together. In a bit more than two days you will come up with an idea, shoot it, and edit it, all while being supervised by an experienced and entertaining instructor! I have tailored this course to make it flexible enough to accommodate people with absolutely zero experience as well as for people who have done a bit of filming. With this course you don’t need any fancy equipment, you can use whatever you have for a camera and a computer. This is a very hands-on workshop, the bulk of the learning will come through the process of actually making your own short film. You will learn the basics of how to structure a story, the art and techniques of visual storytelling, and how to piece it all together in the edit. The workshop will be taught in English and will include 2+ days of instruction, in field help and that sweet sense of accomplishment you will get from making your own film. By popular demand, the group wanted to read and discuss the semi-autobiographical novel by Henri-Pierre Roche, that inspired the Truffaut movie we watched last year. The book is available through the Columbus Library's interlibrary loan system. They reported there are twenty-eight copies available in the state of Ohio. There are also used copies available on Amazon and eBay for under twenty dollars. You may want to rewatch the movie after reading the book, so we can compare and contrast in our discussion. ABOUT THE STRAND THEATRE: The Strand Theatre is located at 28 East Winter Street in historic downtown Delaware! Operating for more than 100 years, the Strand Theatre is one of the 10 longest-operating movie theaters in the United Status and one of the few remaining independent movie theaters showing first-run films! The theater offers a variety of programming, including first-run, art house, ongoing events and fun film series! If you missed last year’s event there, haven’t been there (or haven’t been in a while), you are in for a treat! In addition to the historic theater, the entire downtown area has been completely revitalized with lots of great restaurants and shops! ABOUT SON OF THURMAN: Family-owned since 1942, The Thurman Café in Columbus is a legendary local restaurant that has received national acclaim for their legendary Thurman Burger, great food and fun atmosphere! Son of Thurman is part of that family of restaurants that brings the Thurman experience to Downtown Delaware and will be our dinner location for this event! In addition to their namesake burger, their menu features a huge array of appetizers, sandwiches, subs, wings, pizza, vegetarian options (like the Thurman Veggie Burger), and more! In the year 2044, in the age of AI, a woman named Gabrielle (Seydoux) tries to purify her DNA by purging the inherited memories of her past lives. She (re)lives her life in 1910 Paris and 2014 Los Angeles, and as the procedure goes on, the lines between her worlds become blurred. These three timelines have a lot of connective tissue holding them together; certain symbols and motifs appear repeatedly, not to mention Mackay’s Louis, a figure whom Gabrielle seems drawn to in each lifetime.
