Youth Jam for Kids (6-12)
Youth Jam for Kids (6-12)
Every Second Sunday of the Month from 1-2 pm EST In this class Bebe Blumenthal helps kids learn to play music together. Kids have the opportunity to play the tunes they are learning in your private lessons with others - and learn new songs from others. Importantly kids learn how to collaborate, communicate, create and play well with others in a jam session. Mari facilitates a fun and supportive environment that encourages flexibility, experimentation, and listening. Parents and older siblings with accompanying instruments are welcome to sit in and support the jam. $30/session. Come every month or just once. Who knows - maybe you’ll meet future bandmates… [https://checkout.square.site/buy/RKAXL7VL3DZTFMNRJ2QOTQAT](https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fcheckout.square.site%2Fbuy%2FRKAXL7VL3DZTFMNRJ2QOTQAT%3Ffbclid%3DIwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAYnJpZBExOGhVQ2k0b2g0Tkh0MkNJTgEe8n49Ur8UheXrPvV9tuqM9tHt7roV98z1uB9noLudWMLlGXQDFlw9uplVnEk_aem_tGa34dgHF9MSrLXbb3lJxg&h=AT0dRLI4rVUl4bpQG_DUh9my34Zc_nc4xrFSTZrbKY8iqah0tWA_L6CPexeirKBgawv1CoAIsCbPUWkpkqjH74hlJavr9GuxTggxel-v635cTHs8JDc7d0oqeHoNCoaGZ4eamYckH-ucuJwzHmDtD9MXPFKK30JtqAI&__tn__=q&c%5B0%5D=AT1bMR07rIyK5Sln0FvxJp3kCXsOFI0bRjYhJoQFYiISS6ePbzbNOLMZndtLzCHE0LnQuGmPDdjpU9Sg_hbbC66Rosb2PKruxXGUvoqBrtp7ghRWCK654ffbPTXGNSDtE56KHG77JcCqwD-AyDdBOiZanG8pjte1eTQ)
Chez Joey - Curtain at 7:30PM
Chez Joey - Curtain at 7:30PM
If you missed the first Meetup to see *Chez Joey* at Arena Stage or just want to see it again, there will be another opportunity on Sunday, March 8 at 7:30PM. I will be out of town that weekend, so folks will need to purchase tickets from [Arena Stage](https://tickets.arenastage.org/38123/38266) or [TodayTix](https://www.todaytix.com/washington-dc/shows/44633-chez-joey). There's still very good availability for that performance, so folks can use the comment section to share their ticket location preferences to hopefully form a ticket block. The year is 1940-something, and Chicago’s night scene is sizzling. Enter Joey Evans. A slick-talking, velvet-voiced songster with dreams bigger than the bandstand. But in a city where the right connections mean everything, he is caught between a bright-eyed chorus girl and a wealthy widow who can bankroll his big break—for a price. As the lights dim and the music swells, Joey’s got a choice to make: play it straight or risk it all for the spotlight. This classic Rodgers and Hart score, including “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered,” “What Is a Man?,” and “I Could Write a Book,” now includes “This Can’t Be Love” and “The Lady Is a Tramp,” among others. Co-directed by Tony Award-winning choreographer Savion Glover and actor, director, and producer Tony Goldwyn, the stakes are high, the music is hot, and the game of romance and ambition never sounded so good.

SOLD OUT-Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: Ireland's Fight for Freedom
SOLD OUT-Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: Ireland's Fight for Freedom
**This talk has completely sold out in advance and no door tickets will be available. It also is being staged at Penn Social in DC on March 17th, and tickets remain available then.** [Profs and Pints Northern Virginia](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **“Ireland’s Fight for Freedom,”** with Kevin Matthews, assistant professor of history at George Mason University and former London correspondent for Vatican Radio reporting on British and Irish news. [Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/northern-virginia-ireland-freedom](https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/northern-virginia-ireland-freedom) .] After centuries of struggle, Irish men and women won their freedom from Great Britain after waging a war that set the pattern for all other independence struggles of the 20th century. But there was a price—the partition of their country, a split setting the stage for the Northern Ireland “Troubles” that didn’t end until 1998. Gain a deeper understanding of Ireland and its history with Professor Kevin Matthews, a historian and frequent Smithsonian Associates speaker who had served as a journalist covering the last stages of the Troubles in Ireland in the early and mid 1990s. He’ll discuss in depth how the Irish won independence in a two-year war between 1919 and 1921, covering topics as the role women played in the conflict, the life and tactics of the revolutionary leader Michael Collins, and the Irish development of “urban guerilla warfare” using small, highly mobile armed units called “flying columns.” Most important, this talk will examine how the conflict between Irish nationalists and Irish unionists led to Ireland’s division and later conflict. From the Easter Rising to the Good Friday Agreement, from Bloody Sunday to Brexit, this conflict has never quite gone away. As the Irish poet, William Butler Yeats once wrote: Now and in time to be, Wherever green is worn, Are changed, changed utterly: A terrible beauty is born. Professor Matthews will explore how the Irish fought to a standstill what was then the mightiest empire in the world and how, more than he could have known, Yeats’ prediction still rings true today. (Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. Talk starts 30 minutes later.) Image: Members of the Irish Republican Army’s West Connemara Flying Column in 1921. · Drones · by Benson & Busch @ Beatley Library
· Drones · by Benson & Busch @ Beatley Library
Many popular movies about flying machines bear the title “Drones,” but this isn’t one of them. No, this is a little-known gem about love in the workplace possibly leading to the destruction of planet Earth. Witty writing, solid acting, and slick direction all work together in this movie like bees in a hive, which coincidentally is the point of the title. The cubicle-bound employees of a vast corporation attend to their various tasks, each contributing to the productivity of the whole. But wait – is one of these workers not like the others? And if so, what is this person’s true agenda? When the answers to these questions arrive, the story gets hilariously crazy. The R rating is earned strictly by occasional rude language in this dialogue-driven production, and bluntly your host thinks PG-13 would have been sufficient. ■ Title — *Drones* ■ Director — Amber Benson, Adam Busch ■ Cast — Angela Bettis, Jonathan M. Woodward, Samm Levine ■ Rated R for language ■ ©2010 \| 1h 38m \| Comedy\, Fantasy ■ Distributed by Quiver Entertainment
