Come along and grab a drink! 6:35pm - ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Introduction 6:40pm - ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Haoyi Li: Scripting on the JVM with Scala 7:20pm - ๐Ÿ• Intermission: Join us for some free food and drinks! Vegan, vegetarian options are provided. Let us know if you'd like something special - we'd be happy to accommodate. 7:50pm - ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Martin Durchov: ScalaMeta: Treating Scala code as data 8:10pm - ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Adam Deegan: Practical Java Interop for Scala Effect Systems 8:30pm - ๐Ÿฅค Socialising: Grab a drink and let's discuss the talks. 9:00pm - ๐Ÿป Join us in a pub to discuss the talks! ๐ŸŒ **This event DOES NOT have a live stream** **๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Haoyi Li: Scripting on the JVM with Scala** This talk will explore the use of Scala as a scripting language, replacing the Bash and Python scripts common throughout the industry. โญ Haoyi Li โญ Li Haoyi graduated from MIT with a degree in Computer Science and Engineering, and since then has been a major contributor to the open source community. His projects have over 10,000 stars on Github, and are downloaded over 20,000,000 times a month. Haoyi professionally built distributed backend systems, programming languages, high-performance web applications, and much more. **๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Martin Durchov: ScalaMeta: Treating Scala code as data** Scala source code is usually something we write and hand off to the compiler. But what if we could parse it, inspect it, build it, and transform it all from regular Scala code? ScalaMeta is the metaprogramming library that makes this possible, and it underpins a lot of modern Scala tooling ecosystems: Scalafmt, Scalafix, and Metals are all built on it. In this talk we'll look at what ScalaMeta is, how its AST models Scala programs, and the core operations it provides: parsing, quasiquotes, tree traversal and more. We'll then turn to how we use it at Quantexa, where it powers code generation for our clients. Along the way we'll cover practical patterns that make code generation manageable at scale, and the rough edges you should know about before adopting it yourself. โญ Martin Durchov โญ I graduated from UCL in 2019 with a MSci in Theoretic Physics and started work in TxOdds, a small company focused on ultra-fast data streaming and processing, where I first encountered Scala, working with Typelevel libraries. Since January 2025 I have been working at Quantexa in the team responsible for data ingestion and processing also relying heavily on the Scala functional libraries and ScalaMeta. **๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Adam Deegan: Practical Java Interop for Scala Effect Systems** Interfacing with a highly autonomous Java library in a functional manner is difficult. In this talk we'll explore the ways in which we've approached this; issues we found along the way; and the trade-offs between purity and pragmatism when there's a runtime which isn't yours to control. โญ Adam Deegan โญ Adam Deegan graduated from the University of Bristol with a degree in Computer Science in 2021 and has worked at Quantexa ever since. He started off as a Data Engineer and moved into software engineering a couple of years ago, working on the addition of a case management capability. His first true programming love was making Minecraft mods. โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Would you like to present, but are not sure how to start? Algorithmic Surveillance and Data-driven Enforcement
Algorithmic Surveillance and Data-driven Enforcement
Regulators are increasingly turning to sophisticated data analysis to catch financial wrongdoing. From insider trading to market manipulation, agencies like the FCA and SEC are now building cases around one controversial line of reasoning: that certain patterns of trades simply couldn't have happened by chance. Join our small, informal RegTech Meetup for a deep dive into the world of data-driven enforcement. While the mood takes us, we'll chat about how regulators are using algorithmic surveillance and statistical modelling to detect suspicious behaviour. Afterwards we'll just chat. Whether you're working in compliance, financial services, law or data scienceโ€”or simply fascinated by where technology and justice collideโ€”this session is for you. The topic should give us all plenty to discuss and think about. Please come ready with questions, comments and suggestions. Notes: 1. As per our group's guidelines, we will ask for a small ยฃ5 donation on the day to help keep things running. 2. If you have any difficulty finding the venue or have questions beforehand please contact our WhatsApp group: https://chat.whatsapp.com/KpXlPokyOXWH4Nol0NDdzX?mode=hqctcli 3. We've moved the venue to Canary Wharf in the hope that this is more convenient for our members but please share your thoughts on where we should meet next. Do you have any suggestions as to frequency, timing and format?

LondonJamSessions x TAM MIC DROP (20 Second Chain) #35
LondonJamSessions x TAM MIC DROP (20 Second Chain) #35
I am proud to announce that we having our jam at the Temple Of Art & Music in Elephant & Castle!! 20 Second Chain: A structured improvisation format where a musical โ€œchainโ€ unfolds organically, with each player responding to and building on what came before. Lineup (on stage together): - 2 guitarists - 1 bass - 1 drummer - 1โ€“2 singers - 1 additional instrument (sax, trumpet, percussion, etc.) How It Works: 1. All musicians on stage are assigned a number, which determines the playing order. 2. Playing order, a key (and available chords) is written on a whiteboard opposite the stage. 3. Number 1 begins alone with a simple idea for 20 seconds โ€” leave space for others to build. 4. Every 20 seconds, the next numbered musician joins one at a time, layering something that complements whatโ€™s already happening. 5. Once everyone has entered and the full band is playing, the group improvises for 5 minutes, developing the groove โ€” complexity and solos can grow naturally. 6. No on-stage planning โ€” listen and respond in real time. 7. After the timer ends, the group rotates and a new chain begins. The Temple Of Art and Music is a live music venue and bar in Elephant & Castle so I encourage anyone attending to bring friends as it will be great fun for them even if they are not playing. The venue has a PA system, drum kit, mics and guitar/bass amps. There is no guarantee that there will be cymbals or drum accessories with the drum kit at the venue. Drummers please being your own if you can. Like all our other jams it will be a chance to jam with other musicians playing the music that you love in a gentle environment with no judgement and no pressure. This jam also uniquely gives the opportunity to play in front of a crowd! Tickets are **ยฃ10 online** message us let us know what instrument you play and we will confirm if there is space and send you the Eventbrite link for the jam. Please do not hesitate to contact me for more information about this jam and London Jam Sessions. At London Jam Sessions we have an active community on WhatsApp where we all discuss the upcoming jams and future events. Everyone in the community is encouraged to ask questions and bring forward new ideas. Dm me and I can add you to our Whatsapp group.

This session introduces Squad: an open-source framework for multi-agent orchestration that lets you define teams of AI agents with specific roles, responsibilities, and expertise. We'll progress from Copilot basics to the Copilot CLI, explore how Agents add autonomy, and see how Instructions and Skills let you customize agent behavior. Then, the climax: a live demo where a Squad team of 3 agents (Lead, Developer, Tester) stands up and builds a working application in real-time, showcasing true multi-agent collaboration.
