Friday Evening 3.0 and above at Woodley Gardens Park! (Doubles Format)
Friday Evening 3.0 and above at Woodley Gardens Park! (Doubles Format)
Please do not arrange to play earlier than the scheduled start time UNLESS you are able to stay till the end of the event, we do not want people leaving early and creating uneven numbers. Hello members, Tennis has become much more popular since the pandemic started and court space has been harder to come by. Following these simple rules will help everyone get the most out of MoCo Topspinners Meetup. • If you RSVP for an event, please attend that event or cancel at least two hours before the event starts. Members that no-show will receive one warning then will be benched (suspended) from events for two weeks. Three no-shows can result in a permanent ban. (No-shows create uneven numbers and prevent folks on the waitlist from playing. Please do your part to un-RSVP as soon as you know that you cannot attend an event.) • Members must have a way to communicate with organizers and hosts. This can be through the Meetup app messages or by providing other contact info. • Any member can ask a host or organizer to have their skill rated for event attendance purposes. You will not be allowed to participate in events higher than your NTRP rating. (We may try to limit numbers or have multiple events on a given day to accommodate players of different skill levels and also to help alleviate the court availability problem). • All members shall conduct good sportsmanship and be courteous to other members at all times. • Sexual harassment, racism, sexism or any kind of intolerance will not be tolerated and will result in the permanent ban from the group. • If member receives three warning infractions, the member will be suspended from the Meetup for a period of one month. If a member is suspended twice (six warnings), that member will be permanently banned and any membership dues will then be forfeited. • If you are scheduling to play with others outside of a MoCo Topspinners event, and you know that there is a MoCo Topspinners event scheduled for that day at that time, please try to use courts other than the courts where the event is scheduled, or move your time so that it does not conflict with the Topspinners event. For a list of complete rules and definitions you can see the MoCo Topspinners front page. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact us. We are hoping for a fun season but we may have to wait for courts and leave earlier than we are used to. Please be patient as we adjust to this new normal and try a few different things that will hopefully help the situation. Happy playing! If you would like to attend this event you must be a of minimum 3.0 level. USTA guidelines prior for signing up for the Meetup: https://assets.usta.com/assets/1/15/ExperiencedGuidelines_02142011_V2pdf.pdf Singles and doubles game play flexible depending on court availability. If you have any questions, please feel free to drop the group organizers a message. Looking forward to a great 2021 season- see you on the courts! • What to bring Tennis Balls and Racket, Water.
Beginners' No Drop Ride
Beginners' No Drop Ride
Meet in the parking lot of the Handy Bikes Service Center. At the start of each ride, we'll go over introductions to have a sense of participants' cycling experience. Over the course of our rides, we'll address the following: group riding dynamics; safety (ABC check & trail hazards); gear shifting; hill climbing; audible and hand communication within the group, with other trail users, and automobile drivers; what to bring on each ride; etc... Bring your questions, water & a snack. When it starts getting dark earlier, we'll need lights as well. Helmets a MUST. If you can, and especially if you've had issues with your bike, come a bit early to have it looked at ahead of the ride. PS - all levels are welcome to join, however, be mindful that if you are an experienced rider, please be prepared to ride at the pace of the newest rider in the group. Each week, depending on who's in attendance, and participants' riding ability/comfort level, we may do skills practice as a group in the parking lot or at the west end of Wheeler Ave. Once everyone is comfortable, we'll go for a ride on local trails and neighborhood streets and finish back at the shop. Happy Pedaling !! \~Maya

Kennedy Peak
Kennedy Peak
This is a 9-mile circuit hike in the George Washington National Forest with around 1,500 feet of elevation gain. We will start the hike in the parking lot of the Stephens trail off Route 675 from Fort Valley Drive (route 678) past Front Royal, Virginia. The hike will start on the Stephens Trail and then connect to the Massanutten Trail close to the ridgeline overlooking the Shenandoah River. Once we arrive on the Massanutten Trail, we will hike out towards the observation tower in about one mile, have lunch, and then return to the car using the Massanutten trail. This definitely is not a hike where we will race through it because safety is a concern and making sure our fellow hikers enjoy the experience is important. Pace 2-2.5 mph if this speed is not conducive to your hiking level please know that I do not hike any slower or faster than this pace so please consider another hike. I also take frequent stops and breaks going up hills. PLEASE PRINT OUT ANY MAPS THAT YOU THINK YOU MAY NEED AS I DO NOT PROVIDE COPIES OF MAPS. ALL THE LINKS AND COORDINATES YOU WILL NEED ARE BELOW. Note: Smart phones will not give you the complete map and will end at the Sheetz! You can plot the coordinate below. We will stop at the Sheetz on your way (Sheetz, 15315 Washington St, Haymarket, VA 20169) the distance is about 154 miles round trip to the parking lot. If you are meeting us at the trailhead please be there by 915 am. The GPS coordinates to the trailhead are 38.72761, -78.51611 https://maps.app.goo.gl/QeFDSJf3oRYjvfMC7 We will have lunch at the top at the Observation Tower also if you would like additional information on the hike here is a link that should help you. [http://www.hikingupward.com/GWNF/KennedyPeak/](http://www.hikingupward.com/GWNF/KennedyPeak/) Now the warning: PLEASE DON’T SIGN UP FOR THIS HIKE UNLESS YOU’VE BEEN HIKING A LOT RECENTLY. This is not a beginner's hike, nor is it suitable for dogs. Bring plenty of beverages, lunch, sunscreen, bug spray and sturdy boots. We will meet at 8:00 a.m. to form our carpool in the East Falls Church Metro Kiss & Ride lot. We will promptly leave at 815. In addition to your hiking gear and plenty of water, please bring $5 for the Adventuring Trip Fee and a $12 carpool fee for your driver. Effective immediately, Adventuring will waive the $5 trip fee for any federal employee or contractor who has been furloughed during the current Shutdown. Trip participants will still have to pay their share of transportation costs. Please [click here](https://adventuringlgbtq.com/Adventuring_Release_Form.pdf) to review our release form. Cabin John Trail and lunch after - mostly easy 3.5 miles
Cabin John Trail and lunch after - mostly easy 3.5 miles
Sunday seems like the warmest we will be getting for a little while, so let's do a short 90 minute jaunt, then drive less than a minute to a variety of lunch options! We will meet at the picnic area of Cabin John Park. This IS NOT the side with the playground and the train you can ride. You want the parking lot alongside the road, a thousand feet further down Tuckerman. We will meet up in the picnic area promptly at 11:00, do quick introductions, then start a 3.5 mile clockwise loop. While the first half of the trail is mostly flat, there are three moderate hills on the second half, and we will unfortunately get some traffic noise from I-270. Afterwards, we can drive 30 seconds to Cabin John Village where there are a number of places to grab lunch, including Cava, Shake Shack, sushi, kabobs, and pizza.
