Sewing 101: Small Lined Tote Bag
New to sewing? Used to sew but forgot how? Then this class is for you!
Learn to make a small lined tote bag from cotton fabric. The finished bag will be 12” by 13”. Perfect for carrying a book and your lunch!
Things to Bring
* Sewing machine
* Matching thread
* Straight pins
* Ruler or measuring tape
* Scissors or a rotary cutter and mat
* Optional: Iron
* ½” yard outer fabric, ½” yard lining fabric, ⅛” yard handle fabric
-or-
* Three fat quarters
\*\*Quilting cotton is recommended for this project\*\*
Where to Find Fabric
It is harder to find fabric these days, but don’t worry! We got you! Here are some sources for fabrics:
* Big Box Stores: Michaels and Walmart both sell fabric. We recommend quilting cotton for this project, which is the most abundant type of fabric you can find.
* Thrift Stores: You can use any sort of woven fabric for this project as long as there is no stretch. Be creative! Use old sheets or curtains from the thrift store! Remember: You only need 1 ⅛ yard of fabric for this project, so if you get a sheet there will be a lot of fabric left.
* Cottonwood Quilt Shop: Cottonwood is a quilt shop in Severna Park, about two miles from Unallocated Space on Benfield Blvd. They are partnering with Unallocated to give a 10% discount to people interested in taking the class. Interested? Email [thea@unallocatedspace.org](mailto:thea@unallocatedspace.org) for a voucher to claim your discount. Cottonwood can be found at 548 Benfield Road Severna Park, MD 21146 and online at [cottonwoodinthepark.com](http://www.cottonwoodinthepark.com)
We have limited supplies for this class. If you would like to use our supplies, please consider making a small donation to Unallocated Space.
Don’t have a sewing machine? We have three machines you can use during the class. Please email [thea@unallocatedspace.org](mailto:thea@unallocatedspace.org) and let us know if you need to use one. Reservations for a sewing machine will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

Sewing with Sara
For the attendees of May's program "Draft Your Own Pattern 101"
This is a follow-on program for those who attended "Draft Your Own Pattern 101" in May. Please bring the skirt pattern you created and fabric to sew your new skirt. Registration required.
RSVPing on Meetup does not register you with Prince William Public Libraries. To register, please [click here](https://pwcgov.libnet.info/event/15912064).
Crafting for a Cause (Adult Small Group)
Some projects are made with yarn. Some are made with prayer. This one is made with both.
Join us for Crafting for a Cause as we create Prayer Shawls to offer comfort, encouragement, and care to people in our community.
June 28 from 12:15–1:30 PM
This isn’t about perfection or experience—it’s about showing up and creating something meaningful together.
If you enjoy knitting or crocheting, we’d love to have your hands and talents join us. This is not a class, but patterns, information, and limited materials can be provided if needed.
Never made a shawl before? You’re still invited. We’ll also have simple no-sew fleece
projects available.
And if crafting isn’t your thing—but prayer is—please come anyway.
We’ll be praying over the projects, over the people creating them, and over every person who will one day receive one.
Bring your supplies if you have them. Bring a friend if you’d like. Bring your prayers either way.
If you can pray, you’re welcome.

Some trained COUNT volunteers work together once a month at RMH (http://www.rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer.php) as Housewarmers (usually on the 1st Sunday from 1 – 5 PM). Some schedule other shifts at their convenience. You may try this out with less fuss by following a "Fast track" or go through the normal process.

• Show up and try it out.
• Complete application, etc. later.
Normal process
• Complete an online application (http://rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer/).
• Attend orientation in advance.

• Complete one training shift. Daily shifts are: morning 9 AM - 1 PM, afternoon 1 - 5 PM and evening 5 - 9 PM.
• Schedule shifts online using the on the RMH scheduling system (http://www.volgistics.com/ex/portal.dll/?FROM=32895).
The Ronald McDonald House (RMH) provides housing and meals for families with sick children. The Columbus RMH is the largest in the world with 137 rooms. COUNT has been volunteering there since May 2014.
Housewarmers work with RMH guests to provide a home-like environment - greet, assist with family needs, answer phones, give tours, assist with checkin/checkout, prepare guest rooms after checkout, clean facility, laundry, restock supplies and staff the front desk. RMH Housewarmers volunteer at least one four-hour shift a month. All Housewarmers must complete an application and agree to a background check before they can be full fledged volunteers.

Shut Up & Write!™ Easton Town Center
We'll meet at The Capital One Café, 167 Easton Town Center, Space A-103. This is in the main mall where the Microsoft store used to be, on your left if you're standing at the bottom of the AMC Theater escalator.
Join us on Saturday for an hour of uninterrupted wordmaking!
• What we'll do
Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 10AM on Saturday mornings.
Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.
SCHEDULE:
10:00 - SESSION 1: quick intros.
10:10 - timer starts: write for 1 hour.
11:10 - chat / take off / keep writing.
OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 11A-11:30ish. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing.
BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check-in with me after the session. (I’ll be the person with the Shut Up & Write! sign.) If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer.
Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you!
• What to bring
Whatever you need to be able to write!
Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block noise or the occasional conversation by other patrons. Electrical outlets are limited, so charge your devices before whenever possible.
See you at The Café on Saturday!
