A random walk through Julia's compiler with Valentin Churavy
In March we welcome [Valentin Churavy](https://github.com/vchuravy) to talk about the [Julia frontend](https://julialang.org) for LLVM. Valentin is a long-term contributor to JuliaLang, JuliaGPU and EnzymeAD. He is a Research Software Engineer at [JGU](https://www.uni-mainz.de/) and Uni Augsburg, and graduated from MIT where he did his doctorate in the [JuliaLab](https://julia.mit.edu/). Julia is a high-level dynamic programming language that is widely used in technical computing. Let's explore how Julia uses LLVM to target CPUs, accelerators and even synthesize gradients. Small snacks and drinks will be available. There is always space for outside topics and discussions. If you have specific questions, please bring them. Looking forward to meeting everyone again!

Moving to Berlin is an adventure, but let’s be real—the "Berlin Schnauze" (the city's famous bluntness) can be a bit intimidating, and finding your people takes time. Whether you arrived last week or last year, if you’re looking to break out of the "expat bubble" or just find some friendly faces in your neighborhood, this is for you. We’re gathering at **Ä Stube**, a cozy, alternative gem in the heart of Neukölln. Think dim lights, great music, and a relaxed atmosphere where you don't have to shout to be heard. We can't wait to welcome you to the neighborhood. 🥨✨

Pilgrimage Hike: Marquardt – Potsdam (15.5 km) – Walking with Questions
Pilgrimage Hike: Marquardt – Potsdam (15.5 km) – Walking with Questions
This pilgrimage hike leads us through a water-rich landscape of canals, lakes, and open paths, gradually transitioning into the parks and historic spaces of Potsdam. As we walk, we explore an invitation that leaves room for openness: *What happens when I allow questions, doubt, and uncertainty to be present?* 📅 **Date & Time** * **Date:** Saturday, March 7, 2026 * **Start:** 9:51 AM at Bahnhof Marquardt *(Travel via RE1 from Berlin to Potsdam and RB21 from Potsdam)* * **End:** Potsdam Hauptbahnhof *(Return via RE1 or S-Bahn)* 🗺️ **Route Highlights** * Komoot: [https://www.komoot.com/de-de/tour/2771807835](https://www.komoot.com/de-de/tour/2771807835) * Walking through canal and lake landscapes * Field paths and suburban walking routes * Castles, villas, parks, and waterfront paths * Beaches and swimming spots along the way *(optional dip)* * Arrival through green spaces into Potsdam’s old town * Route suitable for beginners 🤔 **Why This Hike?** We often feel pressure to have answers: to know where we’re going, what we believe, and what the next step should be. This pilgrimage offers a different approach. Instead of searching for solutions, we walk *with* our questions. This pilgrimage is an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with nature, and reflect on life’s important questions. We’ll walk at a relaxed pace, share thoughts, and take time for moments of silence – about 30 minutes to an hour *–* to listen to nature and our inner voices. 🔔 **What to know & bring** * The route is suitable for beginners, but requires basic walking fitness. * Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy walking or hiking shoes. * Bring enough food and water for the entire day. * There will be a longer break at a swimming spot. If you’d like to swim, bring swimwear and a towel. * Please remember your public transport ticket for arrival and departure. 📩 **Questions & Registration** If you have questions or need help with planning your trip, feel free to reach out. You’re also welcome to join our WhatsApp group for updates and connection before the hike. Contact Pilgrim Guide Alexander via WhatsApp (+49 157 57652601) or email (alexander.steinfeldt@outlook.com). **Waitlist = You're in! 😊** Currently, only 10 members can officially register on Meetup (due to the restrictions of the free version). However, you’re welcome to join the hike by joining the [Whatsapp group](https://www.alexander-steinfeldt.de/hikes/berlin-pilgrims/) for this event.
Fairytale Forest: Hike through the mystical landscape of Briesetal
Fairytale Forest: Hike through the mystical landscape of Briesetal
***Discover the mystical sunken birch forest, the valley and its unspoilt nature while hiking along river Briese.*** **HOW DO I JOIN THIS EVENT?** Click on link below to get complete info and to sign up for this event by getting your ticket. [https://Briesetal-14Feb2026.eventbrite.de](https://Briesetal-14Feb2026.eventbrite.de) **WHY GO?** The Briesetal is one of Brandenburgs most scenic valleys, formed by river Briese. The quiet nature preservation area is home to mischievous beavers whose dams created a sunken birch forest. The valley is still dominated by unspoilt nature, seemingly untouched by humans. It's only a 40 minute train ride north of Berlin, making it the perfect day trip getaway from the city's hustling. Following the meandering river we traverse the mystical forest, walk on wooden planks through moors and marshes and explore natural habitats and endemic wildlife. On this hike, immerse yourself into nature’s wonder! Have you ever observed the tiny details of the outdoors? Such as the intricate veins on the back of a leaf? Or the delicate edges of flowers’ petals? Or the movement of a cheeky squirrel? On this walk, you will have the chance to truly connect with the natural world around you. No experience or preparation is needed, just your curiosity. You will be guided through every step of the way. ### **TRIP DETAILS** **Distance:** *13 km walking, 7 hours from start to closing, multiple break times* **Hiking Difficulty:** *Easy – walking on marked paths / dirt roads, mostly flat terrain, relaxed pace* **Kid Friendly:** Yes **Pet Friendly:** Yes **What is included?** * Community leader & guide for the entire duration. * Guided hike * Access to google photos album dedicated for this trip for sharing all your amazing pics & videos from the trip. * Access to a WhatsApp group for confirmed participants. **Note:** Please contact us immediately if you do not have WhatsApp & we can make alternate arrangements from our end to ensure you do not miss out on any communication. Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
[The Board Walks](http://www.theboardwalks.com/) are for curious people who love deep conversations. If that sounds like you, **bring a thoughtful topic** and join us for a 5-mile walk (10,000+ steps!). **HOW IT WORKS** **Step 1: Bring a topic** Before you arrive, think of **one** topic you want to explore. A question. A thought that's been on your mind. An obsession you want to geek out on. This is your ticket to the event. **Step 2: Circle up & share** We gather in a circle. Your friendly walk host gives a speech to set the tone. Everyone shares: your name, what you're grateful for, and your topic. That's it. 60 seconds. **Step 3: Walk, talk & float** We walk 5 miles. You naturally drift into conversation with 2-3 people at a time, pulled by topics that spark your curiosity. When you're ready to move on, just say: "I'm going to float!" **Step 4: Feel more alive** Two hours flies by. You're back where you started — but you feel different. More alive. More energized. More connected to yourself and others. That's why regulars join 20+ times. *For more details, read our [Orientation Guide.](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation)* **HOW TO BRING A GREAT TOPIC** A great topic = something you're genuinely curious about. Recent topics include: * "What are you passionate about right now?" * "What makes a good friend?" * "What's a belief you used to hold that you've completely changed?" * "How do you want to be remembered?" * "What would you do if money wasn't a factor?" Think of your topic like the dish you're bringing to our conversational potluck. If everyone brings an A+ dish (i.e. energizing, uplifting, expansive), we'll all walk away feeling lighter and brighter. **WHAT TO EXPECT** This isn't a fitness event with casual chitchat. It's a walking think tank where we explore life's big questions together, beyond small talk. *If you're looking for light banter or a standard networking event, this probably isn't the right fit.* But if you crave depth, genuine connection, and conversations that make you feel alive? You'll love it here. **FAQ** * Wear casual athletic attire and sneakers. It's a long walk! * We have multiple first-timers at each event. We work hard to create a welcoming, inclusive, clique-free space. * We welcome people of **all** ages, backgrounds, and industries who align with the [intention](https://www.theboardwalks.com/ground-rules) of this space. * Rain or shine, we've been out here nearly every week since July 2022. If the event is cancelled, we'll let you know. * Dogs, babies in strollers, parents, and friends are welcome — please text/email them the event link so they can RSVP and prepare a topic! **LOGISTICS** * If you'll arrive over 10 minutes late, we suggest skipping the event. It's hard to find us once we start walking, and your host can't answer messages during the event. * This walk is designed for everyone to *move together at the same steady pace* (about 20 min/mile). This format works best when the whole group moves in unison. If you have mobility limitations, we kindly encourage you to find an event better suited to your needs. * Read our [Orientation Guide](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation) for full details. * If you enjoy the event, send **[this](http://www.theboardwalks.com/)** to a friend or sign up for our **[newsletter](https://theboardwalks.beehiiv.com/)**. We're in multiple cities with more on the way. 🤠👋 **IF YOU WANT TO GO DEEPER...** [The Board](https://stan.store/ellebeecher/p/the-board) is the next step: a high-trust collective for renaissance people devoted to creating, connecting, and building lives that light us up. * This is a global HQ for people who crave big talk, deep connection, and dream collaborations with people across industries. If the walks feel like a spark... The Board is the fire. Apply [here](https://stan.store/ellebeecher/p/the-board).
