Art Evenings in the garden (FREE, BYOB)
People making art outdoors in a north London community garden, last Friday of the month. You turn up after work, find a spot, and make something for a couple of hours. Bring whatever you like to work in, paint, pencils, clay, a journal, knitting, or use the materials there. Nobody's running it as a class, so do your own thing, with a lot growing around you to work from. Good one to come to alone, plenty will. Bring a bottle if you want a drink while you work. Free. Board, card & dice games night at my place or The George (depending on numbers)
Board, card & dice games night at my place or The George (depending on numbers)
Hi everyone! (pre-pandemic information) If you like to play modern board, card and dice games, and to meet new people, then join us on Monday evenings from 6pm until the pub closes around 11pm. Feel free to bring your own games if you have them, but don't worry if you don't as regular members will bring some along. And of course, we'll teach you how to play them if you don't know already. You work late? No worries - you can join us any time before closing (11pm), so if you don't arrive at 6pm (attendees tend to arrive around 6:30 or 7pm), don't worry :-) Everyone comes and goes when they like, so it is possible that you may be the first to arrive or the last to leave, Please write in the comments what time you expect to arrive at the pub, so we can try to avoid anyone having to wait alone for long. We are a relaxed and friendly group, made up of both natives and foreigners, of locals and those living further afield, happy to welcome newbies and regulars. Events are free to attend, but it is respectable to the public venues we hold them at if you can buy at least one drink or some food while you are present, just like anyone else at the pub would do. If you would like to contribute towards the costs of running of this group, feel free to buy the host(s) a drink of their choice when you see them, for which they'd be very grateful. This saves money that can be put towards the Meetup subscription fees and buying the games that we all play. The George is a reasonably-priced 'local' pub in the Docklands, near Canary Wharf, just 1 minute walk from Crossharbour DLR station, or about 15 minutes walk from the Canary Wharf Jubilee line station. Various TFL buses stop nearby. Don't forget to join our group on Facebook for games news, articles, memes, gossip and banter: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Tabletop.Gamers.London.Docklands/

Royal Institution "Discourse: The speed of life"
Royal Institution "Discourse: The speed of life"
This is a **theatre** and **livestream** talk from the **Royal Institution of Great Britain.** Evolutionary biologist **Anjali Goswami** explains why life on Earth has evolved to look like it does, and how new technology is changing our understanding **ADVANCE BOOKING AND PAYMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS TALK.** **More details and booking instructions on the RI web site:** **[https://www.rigb.org/whats-on/discourse-speed-life](https://www.rigb.org/whats-on/discourse-speed-life)** **SUMMARY** Evolution is a seemingly inconsistent process, switching from long periods of stability to rapid transitions. But what allows some species to survive and adapt to new environments, while others are confined to fossils? Why do some groups diversify into thousands of species, while others remain at small numbers for millions of years? And why do the same forms evolve over and over again in different groups, at different times, and in different places, while many hypothetical forms never evolve at all? In this Discourse, evolutionary biologist **Anjali Goswami** will explore the evolutionary paths that have led to life on Earth as we know it. Using a wealth of fossil data, she will explain how we can piece together the changing tempos of evolution, and delves into how new technology is allowing scientists to understand evolution like never before. You won’t just need to take Anjali’s word for it – you'll be able to hear the data as well, as the evolutionary record for a variety of species is converted to audio. This is a theatre and livestream event for an adult audience, where the speakers and audience in our Theatre are joined by our audience online. **The livestream will go live around 7.20pm, and the talk will begin at 7.30pm. If you register but miss the livestream, the video will be available to you via the same link for two weeks after the event date.** For more information on livestreams, see the information below, or [visit our FAQs page](https://www.rigb.org/whats/faqs-ri-livestreams). Please use the event link you have been provided with. By booking to attend events at the Royal Institution, you confirm that you have read and accept the Ri's [event terms and conditions](https://www.rigb.org/terms-and-conditions). Litter Pick - Catford/Ladywell - Waterlink Way (SE London)
Litter Pick - Catford/Ladywell - Waterlink Way (SE London)
Join the Eco Around Community for a litter-pick walk from Catford to Ladywell along the Waterlink Way, facilitated by Biljana. Waterlink Way connects several parks and green spaces in Lewisham borough, following the Pool and Raversbourne rivers. It stretches 8 miles from South Northwood Country Park to the Cutty Sark ship in Greenwich. Considered one of South London’s hidden gems, it not only provides an enjoyable route to walkers and cyclists, but it also improves habitats for aquatic wildlife. While maintained by Lewisham Council, contributing to the Waterlink Way’s extra clear-up would be much appreciated. **When:** Saturday, 27 June, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm **Where:** We’ll start from Halfords in Catford and make our way under the Catford Bridge, entering the Ladywell Fields. Following the Ravensbourne River, along the Waterlink Way, we’ll finish the walk exiting on the Ladywell Rd. Use the What3Words navigation below to see the exact meeting points. Start: what3words: [///dash.liver.flip](https://w3w.co/dash.liver.flip) Finish: what3words: ///[legal.brass.tigers](https://w3w.co/legal.brass.tigers) We are planning to have some optional drinks/food afterwards. **How to dress and what to bring:** Appropriate footwear, no open-toed shoes and we recommend some waterproofs (just in case). We have some gloves, bin bags and litter pickers but feel free to bring your own and a refillable water bottle in case you get thirsty. Hand Sanitiser is also useful. **Updates:** Unless there is a heavy rain forecast, we will stick to our plans. Please check the event for updates. **Photo Consent:** We plan to take general pictures and a group picture to document the activity and help us promote future online events. If you wish not to be in the pictures, let us know.
Climate Within: in London Climate Action Week
Climate Within: in London Climate Action Week
Welcome everyone, we are here with an exciting event at London Climate Action Week (LCAW). The event consist of two parts. The first part features a role-play called **JoyFuel**, centered on exploring and understanding the root causes of the climate crises. This is followed by a facilitated **discussion and an interactive workshop**, providing space for deeper reflection, dialogue, and collective learning around the same theme. Objective: Participants will engage with climate science in a tangible and accessible way, combining play, activity, and reflection. The performance also encourages participants to reflect on how our individual actions, lifestyles, and consumption patterns contribute to ecological imbalance. Part 1. **JoyFuel** is a play that explores Climate Crisis through reflective and deeper questions to understand its roots. The play stages a story of a graduate student (Arjun), who is ambitious and wants to get all the so-called happiness in his life. He looks up to influential figures, including pop stars and business magnates, as his role models. The story peeps through his own life and the lives of his role models who influence a mass of people to lead a life where happiness is synonymous with more consumption. The collective actions, of the characters, driven by bottomless greed negatively impact the environment. This is depicted through the tragic story of a family of Albatrosses, a seabird. One by one, a family of Albatrosses falls silent, become victims of a meal that was never food but the plastic left behind. Similarly, the adverse conditions of Penguins due to change in the climate, particularly the molt stress is also presented. Through these narratives, the play emphasizes human responsibility in creating and perpetuating this crisis, while encouraging inquiry, awareness and collective action towards protecting ecosystems. The play aims to shift the prevalent notion of happiness through consumption and burning Fossil fuel to fueling the joy within - hence JoyFuel. **Part 2.** **Voice of Earth,** the group discussion and the workshop is an interactive session where the facts about the climate crises will be discussed in detail. In particular, we will scientifically describe the basic terminology associated with climate change like ocean acidification, shifting weather patterns, climate feedback cycles, greenhouse effect etc. For example, through engaging and lively demonstrations, participants will learn about the concept of planetary boundaries, which are the environmental limits within which Earth remains habitable. Crossing these boundaries can lead to serious and potentially irreversible consequences for the Earth To make the experience more engaging, participants will interact with each planetary boundary presented in a human-like form. This approach will help participants better understand the condition of our planet and the importance of these limits. [Register here](https://forms.gle/jBovWuFDYnHQZ2B5A)

Guided Forest Bathing @ THCP
Guided Forest Bathing @ THCP
**Introduction** In our busy city, it can be difficult to find time to slow down and smell the roses! Forest bathing offers you the chance to do just that. Over the course of 2 hours, you will be guided through a multi-sensory exploration of the natural world, giving you time to slow down, breathe, and find peace among the natural world. **What is forest bathing?** Forest bathing typically consists of slow walking, mindfulness practices, and resting (seated or lying down) in nature. Remember being a kid and just watching the branches overhead in the breeze? Originating in Japan in the 1980s, Shin-Rin Yoku or forest bathing, was created as a preventative response to climbing rates of stress in urban areas. Since then, many research studies have shown that even one hour a week spent engaging with nature can significantly reduce symptoms of stress. **What to expect:** * 2-hour duration * Small group size (maximum 6) * Multi-sensory activities * Sharing circle (optional) * Herbal tea offering * A guide to take care of you, so you can truly relax into the wonder of the natural world * Phone-free environment * Opportunity to chat and connect with others (if you would like to) * **Please note there are no toilets available** \- there are several cafes on Mile End Road with toilet facilities\. **What to bring:** * Warm clothes; even on a summer day, spending prolonged time in the shade can begin to feel chilly! * Shoes with a good grip, and that you don't mind getting dirty * A journal and pen * A mug (for tea if you fancy it!) * Any medications you might need, such as EpiPens or inhalers. **How much is it?** This experience is offered on a donation basis; this means you can decide what you can reasonably afford to give. To help you decide, we want to be transparent with our cost breakdown: * £8.50 - meets the recommended donation to Friends of THCP and contributes to important conservation work * £12 - covers the above and supports the guide at the minimum wage rate * £15-20 - pay it forward / supporter option. You are welcome to give less or more depending on your personal circumstances. **[Make a donation here](https://buy.stripe.com/14AfZg0Gn3qL9Dx86M2VG02)**. **About your guide:** Hello! I'm Lizzie, a life-long nature lover. Having been gifted the Kingfisher Concise Field Guide to Animals & Plants of Britain and Europe at the tender age of five, it's perhaps unsurprising that I am happiest outdoors! After several years as a geography teacher and data analyst, I began my studentship as a Forest Bathing Practitioner with Nature and Therapy in June 2025. I have experienced the medicinal influence of nature in my own life when I've struggled with burnout and grief; it's a gift I am keen to share with others. If you have any questions, please do reach out. I look forward to welcoming you! **What next?** Sign up! Then, you will receive a participation form by email with a couple of questions about health and safety; please try to respond before the event, so we can go straight to the trees! Your answers will help us to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone and are encrypted. Our GDPR policy is available on request.
DIY IN A DAY – DRILLS
DIY IN A DAY – DRILLS
**Bookable via our website ➡️** [https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/diy-in-a-day-drills-351/](https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/diy-in-a-day-drills-351/) **⋆⋆⋆** Learn the basics at this fast-paced but relaxed one-day workshop. A perfect starter for all those annoying jobs around the house that you feel you should be able to tackle…if only you knew how. We know it’s frustrating to wait for it to be done and then get charged for it and we understand it can be a bit daunting to head into a wall with a power drill. Pick up the skills to hang curtains, blinds, and simple shelves on any wall. Learn to drill into wood, brick, tiles, or hollow walls with confidence. We will show you how to judge what is behind the walls before you drill. An enjoyable ‘ hands-on’ one-day workshop that covers many of the common aspects of basic DIY. If you have just bought your home and have realized it didn’t include a landlord to fix stuff, or just don’t want to rely on someone else, this day is for you. There is plenty of time to practice on several exercises over the day. The workshop also covers hanging pictures and heavier objects like mirrors, cupboards, and flat-screen TVs. You will learn how to hang a hook, fix a baton, and then a pair of level shelf brackets. Finish off the day learning how to fit shelves into awkward alcoves – a handy skill you can use to fit work surfaces too. Learn how to select the correct drill bit, wall fixing, and screw to secure things confidently. The day will also include a chance to fill small and medium holes in wood and walls to prepare your surfaces for painting. Along the way, we show you how to remove old wall fixings and what to do with the ones you can’t. This a fun fast day with plenty of tools to try and lots of advice on which tools to have in a basic toolkit. If you are thinking of upgrading your drill, you can test all of the ones we use and feel more knowledgeable about what you want to buy. This course is especially suitable if you are not handy or if you are able, but not that confident, about tackling small but important tasks in your home. We will also suggest how to tell if a task is appropriate for DIY or GSI (Get Someone In). You will take home a set of skills that will last a lifetime. All tools and materials included. Perfect for beginners.

Monthly working lunch for Columbus business owners. One specific topic, one to three actions you can run this week. You can be the best at what you do and still be invisible. If local buyers cannot find you, the phone does not ring. Marketing Monday Lunch + Learn is a monthly working lunch for Columbus business owners focused on building relationships, local networking, and local marketing. Every kind of local business welcome. No pitch round, no pressure, no upsell. **This month** Most local businesses pick one or two places to be visible and call it good. The result is inconsistent calls and a feeling that marketing is not working. We will walk through the three places every local business needs to show up, plus the fourth place most owners ignore that quietly produces the warmest leads. **What to expect** Doors open at noon. Order lunch and drinks at the cafe counter or bring your own. You get real conversation with other local owners and a focused marketing lesson. You leave knowing people and with one to three actions to run that week. The room is reserved through 1:30 PM. **Who this is for** Any local business owner who wants clearer marketing direction and real local relationships. Service businesses, retail, home services, professional services, online owners building local presence, anyone serious about being part of the Columbus business community. **Not the right fit if** You are here to pitch the room or recruit for an MLM. **Details** * Second Monday of every month * 12:00 to 1:30 PM * Good Cafe Easton, 4400 Easton Commons, Ste 150, Columbus, OH 43219 * Order lunch and drinks at the counter when you arrive * Free to attend, RSVP required, space is limited **About the host** Rita Suzanne is a local marketing strategist and the founder of Local Marketing Method.
