ZH3 Hash # 1735: The I Want to Sweat Free Freddie Mercury Experience Hash
It’s gonna be Hot!! Hotter than a Rockstar on Wembley stage at a Live Aid Concert. Too hot to wear clothes when Under Pressure. But that’s a special Kind of Magic reserved for midnight Hashes and The Show Must Go On so come dressed like a Queen or a Rockstar Queen and set your armpits free on trail.
Iron that vest, polish those teeth and grow that sexy moustache as We Will Rock You around Zürich and hopefully find the Beer before Another One Bites The Dust under the scorching sun.
Hare is Just Beggin’ For It
**Where**:
See location. Typically within Zurich Zone 10. Look for English speakers wearing running gear.
**When:**
We'll meet at 6:50 pm to start at 7:00 pm.
There's a charge of CHF 5 for participating, which covers all you can drink beer/cider (and non-alcoholic alternatives) plus snacks afterwards.
**All Welcome:**
If you are new, curious, and want to get out of the house, stretch your legs, talk shit, enjoy a drink, and hopefully a laugh, then here's what you need to know:
• We are a social running/walking group, physical fitness is not required, but a sense of humour is useful.
• The aim is to find the '*Beer Stop*' at the end of the '*trail*' and have fun.
• 'True Trail' is typically 4-7 km. Some will go less (especially those walking or walk/running), and some over-achieving fast runners will go further.
• The '*Hare*', which changes each event (along with location), cleverly lays the trail (typically with flour marks) so that everyone reaches the end at the same time.
• There is always a place to deposit your bag and sometimes a place to change.
• **After Trail**, we group for \~20-40 minutes for drinks, snacks, and some fun. This '*Circle*' is typically outside, so leave something warm in your bag in winter (and bring a flashlight when it's dark). If you don't want to stand around drinking afterwards, you can head home. We occasionally all go to a restaurant afterwards.
**Why bother leaving your warm & dry sofa?**
If you enjoy getting outside, being around people, and doing something a bit different, you will probably enjoy hashing. Exercise is important, and this is probably the least boring way to get it.
'Hashing' and the idea of some physical activity to work up a thirst, have been around for almost 90 years and there are groups (*Hashes*) in most major cities. Its humor and 'traditions' can be explored on the internet - **or you can just come along and find out.** *See you there.*
We are of many nationalities, all ages, full of misfits and idiots (at least there is no one taking themselves seriously!) and always welcome newbies 'Virgin Hashers' and visitors from other groups.

Punch Needle Workshop in Zürich
In this Punch Needle workshop, you'll transform simple threads into a unique work of art. Punch Needle is a modern yet relaxing embroidery technique where loops are created in the fabric using a special needle. This results in textured, soft surfaces and expressive patterns. The workshop is ideal for getting to know Punch Needle, unwinding creatively, or creating something beautiful with your own hands in a short amount of time – no prior experience necessary.
At the beginning of the workshop, you'll receive a brief introduction to the basics of the Punch Needle technique. I'll show you step by step how to use the needle correctly, how to guide the thread, and how to create even loops. You'll learn what to pay attention to so that your design is neat and stable. The calm, even movement makes Punch Needle particularly relaxing and perfect for a creative break from everyday life.
In the workshop, you can choose between two creative options:
Option 1 – Embroider a Design
You choose an existing (or your own) design and embroider it without a background. This option is ideal for beginners or anyone who wants to try Punch Needle in a straightforward way. The focus is entirely on the technique and the design itself. Here you can transform your work into a saucer.
Option 2 – Design with Background
Here you embroider your design including a background. This gives your work more depth and a particularly beautiful, flat texture. This option is suitable for anyone who wants to make their artwork a bit more elaborate. Here you can also transform your work into a saucer or hang it up as decoration.
The maximum workshop duration is up to 1 hour. Depending on your pace and design, you can complete your work or a large part of it within this time. I will personally guide you throughout the entire workshop, give you tips, and support you with any questions or uncertainties. Everything is optional – the important thing is that you enjoy the process.
All materials are included. You will work with high-quality yarns in various colors, fabric, a hoop, and a punch needle. You don't need to bring anything – except a desire for creativity. You can take your embroidered work home with you at the end, whether as a decoration, a gift, or a personal keepsake.
If you're looking to discover something new, relax creatively, and create your own work of art in a short amount of time, this punch needle workshop is perfect for you. 🧶✨

INTENSIVE Drawing Class
**INTENSIVE Drawing Course - learn to draw independently, step by step**
This **intensive drawing course** is for anyone who wants to learn drawing from scratch and master it confidently in the long term. The goal of this course is to guide you step by step **to being able to draw independently** – without reference materials, without uncertainty, and with a solid understanding of form, proportion, and light. The focus is on building a strong foundation that is essential for any drawing style
In this course, you'll learn the **absolute basics of drawing** : sketching, shading, and accurate measuring. These three areas form the foundation for both realistic and stylized drawings. You'll learn how to observe subjects correctly, place lines deliberately, and create depth and volume using simple techniques. Measuring proportions, in particular, will help you avoid typical beginner mistakes and significantly improve your drawings.
This intensive course is intentionally structured as **an ongoing drawing course**. Drawing is a skill that develops through regular practice. A single session can be inspiring, but it's not enough to make real progress. Through consistent participation, you'll systematically build your knowledge and develop an increasingly refined sense of form, light, and perspective. Each lesson builds upon the previous one and reinforces the concepts learned.
A key focus is on **practical application** . You'll actively draw in every lesson and receive individual feedback. I'll personally guide you, show you alternative approaches, and help you develop your own drawing style. The goal is not only to instruct you but also to equip you with the necessary tools to **continue drawing independently** and realize your own designs.
### Draw more, pay less
Those who want to draw regularly will benefit from a **course subscription**. With a subscription (4, 6, or 12 lessons), each lesson becomes significantly cheaper. The subscription is ideal for anyone who is motivated, wants to stick with it, and consistently improve their drawing skills. Regular sessions provide structure, routine, and visible progress – exactly what many people need when drawin
**For whom?**
This intensive drawing course is suitable **for beginners *and motivated newcomers* .** No prior knowledge is required. What's most important is the desire to truly learn how to draw and the willingness to practice regularly. Talent isn't crucial – patience, interest, and consistency are the keys to success.
If you want to learn **to draw confidently and independently** , solidify your basics and improve step by step, this intensive course is just right for you.
Island Hopping, Burgers, and Live Music
(bad weather fallback date: 2 July)
Dear ZOWSPers
Every summer, ZOWSP goes island hopping.
There are two islands at the end of Lake Zurich: Ufnau & Lützelau
Every Thursday evening on Lützelau, there is free live music at the restaurant (more info: [https://insel-luetzelau.ch/restaurant/](https://insel-luetzelau.ch/restaurant/))
We will:
- leave Zurich by train (S8) at 16:07 to Freienbach
- start swimming from Spielplatz Seeanlage Freienbach to Ufnau at 5pm sharp
- walk across Ufnau
- swim to Lützelau
- order food, drinks, and enjoy live music on Lützelau
- catch a boat to Rapperswil
Please note:
- Signup on this meetup event is mandatory by Monday (3 days before we go), as we need to book boats to get back to Rapperswil.
- Two swim groups: slower (\~3:00/100m) & faster (\~2:00/100m)
- Total Swim distance: 2.5km, split into 2 parts: before & after walking across Ufnau
- Bring a dry-bag to pack your phones, flip flops, clothes.
- I suspect wetsuits will not be required given how quickly the lake temperature is rising.
In order to participate in this event, you need to leave work early. Here are some excuses you can use:
- I have a dentist appointment (overused & boring, but always works)
- my cat is sick
- it's my {important relative}'s {high-number rounded to the nearest 10}th birthday dinner in Lausanne
- My neighbor just texted me because my dog won't stop barking, and they think a pipe might have burst in the building's hallway. I need to go check on things (the best excuse in this list, because it is too specific to be considered suspicious)
Best,
ZOWSP organising committee

Hiking weekend in Wallis (2 nights in a hut))
Enjoy a spring hiking weekend in the Wallis, in a simple but cosy hut on 2000m above the sea, not far from Brig. We hike, cook, have fun and do all works together, and most important: Enjoy the mountain views.
We start Friday morning from home, meet on the train and still must hike up 500m carrying our food for the weekend. On Saturday we start for a day-hike around the hut.
On Sunday we first have breakfast together, clean the hut, walk down probably to another location than the one where we started and finish the weekend with a nice drink or some food, before we take the train home.
The detailed plan will depend on the weather. All hikes are T1/T2 and may be 4 to 6 hours, and up to 1000m up/down.
The price for 2 nights is 70.- CHF incl. some basics. The cost for the food we will share later.
The group is almost complete already, but a few slots are still open to the planned group size of 10 to 12 persons. The Meetup waiting list does not have any meaning. Once I noticed your payment, I will move you in as participant.
Please do your payment not later than 19.6.2026 !

KIDS Manga Drawing Class
Drawing manga often seems complicated and intimidating at first glance. The expressive eyes, distinctive features, and dynamic characters lead many to believe that years of experience are required. But this manga drawing workshop addresses that very fact: drawing manga is much easier than you think when you learn the right basics and are guided step by step.
In my manga drawing workshops, children and teenagers learn the most important manga drawing techniques in a playful and easy-to-understand way. The course is structured so that it is easy to understand even without prior knowledge and provides a sense of accomplishment from the very beginning. The goal is to dispel participants' fear of drawing and foster their creativity.
All necessary materials are included in the course, so you don't need to bring anything. Drawing paper, pencils, and other materials are provided on site.
Warm-up and Sketching Exercises (10–15 minutes)
We begin by loosening up our hands with simple drawing exercises and quick sketches. These help develop confidence in your lines and allow you to start drawing in a relaxed way.
Basics: Manga Faces (approx. 30 minutes)
You will learn step by step how typical manga faces are constructed – from the basic shape and proportions to the eyes, nose, mouth, and facial expression.
Drawing a Manga Character Together (45–60 minutes)
Afterwards, we will put what we have learned into practice and draw a complete manga character together. You will learn how to make characters come alive and how small details convey personality.

A truly spectacular route in the granite rocks of the Schöllenen gorge, albeit with plenty of grass in between. There are fascinating views down into the wild gorge and its roads.

**Starting-point**
Andermatt (1436 m), station for the Furka-Oberalp-Bahn railway and terminus for the funicular coming up from Göschenen. Parking at the station.
**Walk-in**
From the station at Andermatt, follow the route alongside and on the main road (route signed) through the Urner Loch into the Schöllenen gorge, turning right before you reach the Teufelsbrücke Bridge and making for the Suvorov Memorial (1,405 m).
**Diavolo via ferrata**
Go across the low wall and on the wire rope to the actual start. The route rises steeply and airily over a striking rib and into stepped terrain, before moving over alternating flat rocks and grassy ledges towards the mountain. There are gripping views down into the Schöllenen gorge with the old Teufelsbrücke and its modern transport routes, which gradually shrink to toy size. There is an extended and unsecured left traverse (refer to the book of routes) taking you over to the route's grande finale: a channel, an exposed corner of rock and finally a vertical ladder, before you are standing on the edge of the Tüfelstalboden (approx. 1,860 m). Only slightly higher, there is a delightful stopping-point below the Uri flag, with a view of the jagged granite of Salbitschijen.
**Descent**
On a well-signed path, first taking in a slight climb over the Tüfelstalboden, and then gently downhill to the avalanche obstructions, before zig-zagging down to the barracks area at Andermatt.
Region: Gotthard region
Peak/Highest point: Tüfelstalboden (approx. 1,900 m)
Time required: climb 2 hours (via ferrata 1 hour), descent 1 hour; total 3 hours.
Variation in height: 500 m (via ferrata 450 m)
