Bigger, Better, Bolder Miss Bachata & Miss Salsa
Bigger, Better, Bolder Miss Bachata & Miss Salsa
**Welcome to Miss Bachata & Miss Salsa!** **Spring is in the air, and with it comes the promise of new beginnings, fresh energy, and the joy of connection!** As the season of renewal unfolds, we invite you to step into the rhythm of community, dance, and celebration at Miss Bachata & Miss Salsa. My objective has always been to create a different kind of social gathering—one that is open, non-judgmental, and safe. A place where you can meet people just like you, where socializing and dancing come together to help build community and tear down the walls that separate us. Here, we make new friends, feel a sense of belonging, and enjoy the calmness that comes from knowing we are in a safe and welcoming space. Many times, I have been asked, “Why host an event on Monday night?” Many people escape on the weekend and dread Mondays when they return to work. I believe that if you dance and socialize on a Monday, you infuse your week with joy and positive energy, giving your life balance and helping you face your challenges with enthusiasm and confidence. We’re also thrilled to announce that our trial of advanced Bachata lessons, which began last September, has been a resounding success! Building on this momentum, we’re excited to offer an enhanced schedule for 2026. Our dance evenings will now feature three hours of classes: one hour of beginner to intermediate Bachata, one hour of advanced Bachata, and one hour of beginner to intermediate Salsa. As always, the entrance fee remains $15 for a night of 2 lessons and social dancing. For those interested in the advanced Bachata lessons, there will be an additional $5 fee. Here’s our updated schedule: **Miss Bachata – Main Ballroom** 🕖 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm: Beginner to Intermediate Bachata Lesson (No partner required) 🕗 8:00 pm – 12:00 am: Social Dancing **Miss Salsa – Round Room** 🕖 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm: Advanced Bachata Lesson (+$5) **NEW** 🕗 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm: Beginner to Intermediate Salsa Lesson 🕘 9:00 pm – 12:00 am: Social Dancing ✨ **Additional Details:** ✔️ Free Parking ✔️ Full Bar (Free Water, Beer: $5.75) Over the past decade, organizing Latin dancing events in Mississauga has been a labor of love. Our mission has always been to foster a sense of community, proving that the connections we share are far stronger than the differences that divide us. Loneliness is a growing concern, with over half of U.S. adults and many Canadians experiencing its effects. The COVID-19 pandemic has only heightened this issue. Harvard University's long-term study on happiness, which began in 1938, highlights the detrimental impact of loneliness on health. People with strong social connections experience slower mental and physical decline and greater overall happiness compared to those who are isolated. Here are some key findings from the study: 🌿 Close ties help delay mental and physical decline more than money, fame, social class, IQ, or genetics. 🌿 Relationship satisfaction is a better predictor of aging well than cholesterol levels in middle age. 🌿 A strong sense of community improves memory function. 🌿 Loneliness can be as harmful to health as smoking or alcoholism. And there’s hope! Strengthening our relationships and supporting community initiatives can combat loneliness and build healthier, happier lives. Miss Bachata & Miss Salsa provides a wonderful opportunity to make new friends, expand your social circle, and enjoy a safe, welcoming, authentic environment. Bring your open heart and a smile, and we’ll take care of the rest. 🌸 **Cheers to a season of renewal, joy, and community!** 🌸 **Anna G.** https://www.facebook.com/groups/1871491806494168/ https://www.facebook.com/EventsByAnnaG

🌸🌳Cherry Blossoms In High Park with light walk! 🌸🌳
🌸🌳Cherry Blossoms In High Park with light walk! 🌸🌳
🌸🌳 **CHERRY BLOSSOMS IN HIGH PARK WALK** 🌳🌸 Spring Blooms, Early Morning Magic & A Park in Full Colour This is one of those events where timing is everything. For a short window each spring, High Park transforms into one of the most beautiful spots in the city — with cherry blossoms in full bloom and people coming from everywhere to see them. And yes… it gets *busy*. That’s why we’re going early. The cherry trees in High Park were originally gifted in 1959 by the citizens of Tokyo, through Ambassador Toru-Hagiwara, as a symbol of friendship and appreciation. Many were planted along the hillside near Grenadier Pond, and over time, the display has grown into the iconic spring event we know today. This is not a formal tour. It’s a social walk — a chance to experience the blossoms, take photos, and enjoy the park together. 📲 **Join Our WhatsApp Group:**[ Click here to join](https://chat.whatsapp.com/DRFTkxRlHS4B3IL1lMleUd) \*\*\* 🚶‍♂️ **What We’ll Do** We’ll meet at the entrance and head straight toward the three main cherry blossom areas, stopping briefly at each so everyone has time to take photos and enjoy the views. After the blossoms, we’ll continue on a relaxed walk through the park, passing by the zoo and looping our way back to where we started. This is a lighter walk overall, but there *are hills*, so be prepared for a bit of a workout. \*\*\* 🌦️ Weather & Expectations This event will happen in typical spring conditions — sun, wind, or light rain. As long as it’s not extreme weather, we’ll be going ahead. 🌸 **IMPORTANT:** Cherry blossom timing can change depending on the season. If needed, this event may be moved to another date to catch peak bloom. Please keep an eye on updates. Dress in layers and wear good walking shoes. Also — this is NOT a guided or historical tour. I’ll share context casually, but the focus is on enjoying the experience together. \*\*\* 🚫 Getting There **DO NOT DRIVE TO THIS EVENT.** Parking in the area will be extremely limited or unavailable. It is strongly recommended to take public transit and meet at High Park Station. \*\*\* 🧢 Meetup Details 📍 Meetup Location: High Park sign (west side at Bloor & High Park Ave) 🫎 I’ll be wearing my Moose Hat ⏰ Meetup Time: 9:00 AM I will only wait 5 minutes. Early is on time. On time is late. We’ll head in promptly to beat the crowds. End Point: Back at the starting location \*\*\* 🎟️ Meetup Fee: $5 cash in person or e-transfer to 📧 \*\*[mathewmaclean@hotmail.com**](http://mathewmaclean@hotmail.com%2A%2A/) This helps support the group and allows us to keep hosting events like this. Thank you for supporting community! 💖 \*\*\* 🎒 What to Bring Water Good walking shoes (hills!) Camera or phone for photos 📸 Weather-appropriate clothing (layers + spring-ready 🌸) Please also use the washroom before arriving, as stops are limited early on. \*\*\* 🌈 Who Is This For? This group is open to anyone who wants to be social and make friends — whether single or not. We also host: 🎬 Movies 🚶 Walks & hikes 🎭 Arts & culture outings 🍽️ Restaurant gatherings There’s always something happening. \*\*\* REMEMBER: You’re welcome to just show up on the day if you’re unsure about your schedule. And as always, sometimes plans shift and events may need to be canceled — please keep an eye on updates. \*\*\* 👤 Organizer: Mathew Questions? Post on the event wall or email 📧 [torontomoviesandoutings@hotmail.com](mailto:torontomoviesandoutings@hotmail.com) Come for the blossoms. Stay for the walk. Silent Sunrise Walk at Rouge Nat'l Park: Orchard Trail + Beare Hill
***Headlamps are mandatory*** Our group will leave at the posted time, so please arrive early. Please cancel your RSVP if you can't make it. ***We will hike to the summit in silence.*** Sunrise on this day is scheduled for 6:10. In order for us to arrive at the summit by this time we'll have to walk a brisk pace, and we won't be able to wait for stragglers. Those of you that have trouble keeping my usual pace are encouraged to arrive early and get a head start. The distance from the parking lot to the summit is approximately 2.5 km. The route is a loop, so we will finish where we originally start from. 🌸🌳 CHERRY BLOSSOMS IN HIGH PARK WALK + LUNCH 🌳🌸
🌸🌳 **CHERRY BLOSSOMS IN HIGH PARK WALK + LUNCH** 🌳🌸 **Spring Blooms, Busy Energy & A Tavern Finish** If the early morning version felt a little too ambitious… this one’s for you. Join us for a slightly later start to experience the cherry blossoms in High Park — one of Toronto’s most beautiful (and busiest) spring traditions. For a short window each year, the park fills with soft pink blooms, drawing people from all over the city. It’s vibrant, a little chaotic, and completely worth it. The cherry trees were originally gifted in 1959 by the citizens of Tokyo through Ambassador Toru-Hagiwara, symbolizing friendship and appreciation. Many were planted along the hillside near Grenadier Pond — and today, they’ve become one of Toronto’s most anticipated seasonal moments. This is not a formal tour. To wrap things up, we’ll head out of the park and make our way to The Mugshot Tavern for a casual lunch together. 🍔🍻 You’re welcome to join for food or head out whenever you like. Please note: there are hills throughout the park. \*\*\* 🌦️ **Weather & Expectations** This event will happen in typical spring weather — sun, wind, or light rain. Speak Easy (Storytelling)
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for May is "Ink" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!

How Lucky by Will Leitch
How Lucky by Will Leitch
Posting this early because seemingly all Sundays in May are holidays or busy! I picked a shorter thriller that's hopefully a fast read/listen. [Columbus library link to book](https://cml.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S105C3458940) Location: Grandview Cafe, *1455 W. 3rd Ave*, Columbus, OH 43212 [Menu](https://www.grandviewcafe.com/menu) Book summary: Daniel leads a rich life in the university town of Athens, Georgia. He's got a couple close friends, a steady paycheck working for a regional airline, and of course, for a few glorious days each Fall, college football tailgates. He considers himself to be a mostly lucky guy -- despite the fact that he's suffered from a debilitating disease since he was a small child, one that has left him unable to speak or to move without a wheelchair. Largely confined to his home, Daniel spends the hours he's not online communicating with irate air travelers observing his neighborhood from his front porch. One young woman passes by so frequently that spotting her out the window has almost become part of his daily routine. Until the day he's almost sure he sees her being kidnapped.
