Annapurna Base Camp Adventure + Fundraising Trek: a Himalaya Hike of a Lifetime
Annapurna Base Camp Adventure + Fundraising Trek: a Himalaya Hike of a Lifetime
A once-in-a-lifetime trek through rhododendron forests, mountain villages and Himalayan giants-ending at Annapurna Base Camp. Join a small team of motivated trekkers and make your steps count. **What this is** From **April 23 (in _Kathmandu_!) to May 3 2026** (we’re gathering a small group of fellow adventurers for an unforgettable Himalayan trek to Annapurna Base Camp (3,900m) - a classic route that blends jaw-dropping mountain scenery with warm local culture, hearty teahouse nights, and that unbeatable feeling of earning every view. This isn’t a race. It’s a shared adventure: early starts, crisp mountain air, prayer flags fluttering in the wind, and days spent walking beneath some of the world’s most majestic peaks. **Dates**: 23 April - 3 May 2026 **Start/Finish**: Kathmandu → Pokhara → Trek → Pokhara → Kathmandu **Trek level**: Moderate+ (good fitness required) **Distance/Altitude**: ~65 km trekking, up to 3,900m **Why you’ll love it** Picture this: Sunrise spilling over snow-covered ridges Stone steps winding through terraced hillsides Suspension bridges above rushing rivers Teahouses glowing with warmth at night The dramatic amphitheatre of Annapurna towering above you at base camp Nepal has a way of making the world feel bigger—and your worries smaller. **The route** (high level itinerary) Day 1 – Kathmandu: arrive + visit a Sense International project We begin in Kathmandu and, importantly, visit a local project connected to the charity we’re fundraising for. Day 2 – Kathmandu → Pokhara Travel to the beautiful lakeside city of Pokhara—gateway to the Annapurnas. Day 3 – Start trekking: Nayapul → Ghandruk (1,950m) A strong opening day through villages and mountain trails, finishing in the charming Gurung village of Ghandruk. Day 4 – Ghandruk → Chomrong (2,040m) A classic Annapurna day: forest paths, stone steps, and our first big mountain panoramas. Day 5 – Chomrong → Bamboo (2,310m) We head deeper into the valley as the scenery becomes more rugged and dramatic. Day 6 – Bamboo → Himalayan Hotel (2,920m) A steady climb into higher terrain—cooler air, bigger peaks, and that growing “we’re really doing this” feeling. Day 7 – Himalayan Hotel → Machhapuchhare Base Camp (3,700m) We reach MBC beneath the iconic “Fishtail” peak—thin air, huge views, big excitement. Day 8 – Machhapuchhare BC → Annapurna Base Camp (3,900m) + descend to Bamboo Summit day (in trekking terms): we reach Annapurna Base Camp, soaking in the towering south face of Annapurna and surrounding giants—then start descending. Day 9 – Bamboo → Jhinu Danda (1,780m) (hot springs optional!) We drop to warmer altitudes and, time permitting, reward ourselves with a soak in the natural hot springs. Day 10 – Jhinu Danda → Pokhara + celebration dinner Return to Pokhara, shower like champions, and celebrate. Day 11 – Pokhara → Kathmandu Back to Kathmandu for the final night. **Who should join** You love hiking and want a real adventure with a supportive group You’re happy with multi-day trekking and teahouse living You can train a bit beforehand (weekend hikes, stairs, cardio) together with the rest of the group You want your travel to mean something beyond the photos Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a motivated first-time Himalayan trekker, you’ll fit right in if you bring a good attitude and a willingness to be challenged. **The purpose (and why it matters)** This trek is also a fundraising challenge for Sense International, which supports deafblind children in Nepal—helping them access communication, education, and support so they can thrive rather than be isolated. We’ll be raising funds alongside the trek, and every step we take is dedicated to building a better future for children who face a far greater daily challenge than any mountain trail. If you’re in: come for the Himalayas, the team spirit, and the chance to turn an unforgettable adventure into a concrete impact. **Interested? **Hit Join and drop a comment with: your hiking background (even if it’s “enthusiastic beginner”) what excites you most about Nepal whether you’re open to supporting the fundraising goal as part of the adventure Let’s earn our views—and make them count.

Blossom Hike Dentergem (25km)
Blossom Hike Dentergem (25km)
The south of Limburg is well known for seeing blossoms in April, but did you know that they can also be seen in West-Flanders? Since this year the town of Dentergem is actively promoting blossom hikes on its territory. The weather for Saturday looks great, so let's check it out! The hike will start in Deinze, a small city on the Scheldt that has a very good train connection to Brussels. In the first part of the hike we will walk along several canals till we reach Dentergem. Once there we will do part of the newly-created blossom trail. Several farms on the way actively promote the trail, so we might have the option to buy some local products. The trail ends in Markegem, where we have a beer in a bar in the middle of the fields. Afterwards we take a De Lijn bus to Waregem, where you have connecting trains to Brussels, with a change in Ghent or Kortrijk. Important: As the number of participants is limited, it is important that you manage your registration responsibly: only sign up if you really intend to come and cancel as soon as you know you can’t (this also goes for people on the waiting list!). We will try to keep close to an average speed of about 5 km/h. We will walk mainly on unpaved roads. I’ve not tested this track beforehand, so it’s possible that there are some mistakes in the planning. ●●You can find the track here: https://loc.wiki/t/260606946?wa=sc ●●Meeting point: We meet at 10h08 in Deinze (in front of the station, Statieplein). If you start from Brussels-South, you should take train IC 3631 direction Aalst & De Panne at 8h53. This is a direct train. If you miss this train, you can take another train ten minutes later, but then you have to switch in Ghent-Sint-Pieters. I live in Ghent, so I will jump on the train there. Let's try to meet in the first car of the train. ●● Train tickets: Return ticket to Waregem should be ok, or two separate tickets Brussels-Deinze and Waregem-Brussels. ●● Back to Brussels: In Dentergem we first take a De Lijn bus to Waregem. There is only one bus every two hours. We aim to make it for the 15h45 or 17h45 bus. On the bus you can buy a ticket with a debit card. The return journey to Brussels takes approx. 1h30 minutes. ●● Specifics: Distance: ca 25km Elevation gain: 14m Net walking time: ca 5-6h Weather forecast: Looks great for the moment. In the unlikely case of too bad weather, we may cancel a hike, even few hours before the event. If this must happen, we will of course update the Meetup website and send out an email to those registered. So it is important to have access to either the meetup website or your emails. ●● What to bring: * Comfortable hiking clothes &shoes * rain gear (just in case) * water + food for the breaks * sun cream * Compeed for blisters * some small money for drinks ●● Basic rules: Please RSVP only if you really intend to come. And if your plans change, update your RSVP asap, even hours before the walk. This is basic courtesy towards others. Repeated late cancellations are not well considered (at all). No-shows are even worse. Do not show up for a hike unless you are on the “going” list. People with the "go-with-the-flow" label are only moved from the waitlist 24 hours before the hike. I give you the label "go-with-the-flow" if you did not show up in one of my hikes before, or if you canceled for one of these hikes less than 24 hours in advance without a good reason. ●● Acknowledgement of member responsibility and release of liability: You are responsible for yourself and should be fit enough if you want to take part. As the participation in the events is strictly voluntary and you freely choose to join, it is the responsibility of individuals participating to ensure that they are fit enough and have adequate coverage to protect themselves. By signing up for this event, you agree to release the organisers from any responsibility and liability. Moreover, the organisers aren't tour operators, so they don't feel obliged to answer to every text message or email!

The Green Lungs of Uccle (15k)
## 🏃‍♂️ Sunday Run : The Green Lungs of Uccle (16km) **Kick off your Sunday with the Brussels Runners!** Whether you’re a long-time regular or this is your very first time joining, come find your rhythm with us. This week, we’re leaving the cobblestones behind to explore the hidden valleys and leafy heights of Uccle. ### 📍 The Route: From Pavilions to Plateaus We’ll start at the **historic white Pavilions** (Bois de la Cambre) and head south into a side of Brussels. Our journey is a "greatest hits" of Uccle’s nature reserves: * The rolling greens of **Parc de Wolvendael** * The wilder paths of **Keyenbempt & Kinsendael** * The sweeping views of the **Engeland Plateau** * The tranquil **Parc de la Sauvagère** We’ll loop back through the Bois de la Cambre to finish a beautiful **16km circuit** on a mix of pavement and soft park paths. ### 📋 The Essentials * **Distance:** \~15 km * **Pace:** Strictly **6:15 min/km**. This is a steady, social effort—perfect for building endurance without the burn. * **Meeting Point:** At the **2 white Pavilions** (Entrance to Bois de la Cambre). * **Bag Drop:** Available on-site—run light! * **Post-Run:** Join us for a post-run "rehydration" (coffee or something colder) at **Café de la Presse** to swap stories and weekend plans. ### 👟 Why join? This is a **no-drop social run**. We’re here for the community, the conversation, and the consistent miles. It’s the ultimate way to discover Brussels’ "green lungs". **Acknowledgement of member responsibility and release of liability.** By signing up for this event, you agree to release the organizers from any responsibility and liability in all claims. As the participation is strictly voluntary and you freely choose to join, it is the responsibility of individuals participating to ensure that they are fit enough and have adequate coverage to protect themselves. Questions and comments are welcome.

Sometimes, it took them more than one attempt before being able to join.* *Occasionally, people reach out to me before the event, and I have always been grateful for that as it offers the opportunity to communicate with each other and to find the best and most gentle way for that person to join the group.* *I would like to encourage everyone who struggles with this to contact me before. It would really be too bad if you can't join us, as it mostly gets better the second or third time you come.* *In addition to that, if you arrive and notice any signs of nervousness or fear, you can always let me know right then.* **THANK YOU AND SEE YOU ALL ON Saturday!**
