**Do you like to make things? Would you like to use 3D software, lasercutter and 3D printing to help you make your idea?**
TOG has an open evening to learn how CAD software and 3D fabrication tools can help you make your project.
All you need to take part is your own laptop and some ideas on what you want to make.
This is not a taught class, more like an informal working group of self-directed makers.
We will be happy to help you explore how to use our 3D tools in designing and making your project whether you are a crafter, designer, engineer or hobbyist.
Come and have a look at the tools in our space and get some ideas on how your project can be made.

Public Speaking Monday Meetup - New Location
Come along to get rid of the number one fear people have. Every week we have new members and people starting from scratch so you will not be alone. Everything is based around what you're comfortable with and you don't have to stand up, talk or do anything if you don't feel like it. But you will have the opportunity to speak at least 4/5 times a night. You can come along to see what we're doing and take part if you like. We will be running this for beginners every week and anyone is welcome to join us to learn and get better together. Hope to see you there :D
We charge €5 to help towards the room rental.
Acoustic night with Meaghan
join us in Nanny O’ Sheas on the 19th of January for a relaxed evening of unplugged music, shared songs, and love for all things musical.
Whether you're a seasoned performer or stepping out of your bedroom with your first song, this is a space to play, listen, and connect.
**New to performing?**
We want to create a safe space that is especially welcoming to first-time performers. If you're new to sharing music, know that this is a no-pressure, supportive space where beginners are encouraged.
**How it works:**
\* It’s unplugged and intimate. We go around in a song circle—each person gets a turn to play one song per round. You’re welcome to sit out a round if you prefer.
\* Singers welcome—no instrument needed. Go acappella or ask for accompaniment.
\* Covers, originals, instrumentals—all styles welcome.
**A few practical notes:**
\* RSVP is essential in order to perform.
\*Plus one’s are welcome but please keep it to one - RSVP only required for musicians.
\* Can’t make it? Please update your RSVP so someone else can join.
\* Respect the performers: stay quiet during songs, and use breaks between rounds to grab a drink or step out.
\* The venue is free—support the bar if you can by grabbing a drink.
\* The room we will be in is semi-private - patrons may wander in and listen from the back of the room.
**Tips jar on the night
:** Half goes to the bar staff, half helps cover the Meetup fee (around €10/month). No pressure to contribute—but it helps keep things running.
Whether it’s your first time sharing a song or your fiftieth, you’re warmly welcome.
Electronics Night
These are our regular Monday evening electronics nights. Everyone from absolute beginner to experienced is welcome. These evenings are not classes or tutorials, rather a very friendly informal evening.
We have a wide range of people who come. Some are absolute beginners who do not even work or study electronics, but are interested to know more. Others have something that they are already working on. We almost always have some first time visitors and we always give them a tour of the space.
Come in with your Pi, Arduino, or whatever you have. Bring your laptop. Maybe you want to make something, solder, breadboard or use our electronic gear. Maybe you have some vague ideas and just want to get started. Or maybe you’re just curious……if so, it’s fine to come along and just see what others are doing.
If you would like to get even more involved and have the full use of our space, we would be delighted to have you as a full member. Membership brings many benefits.
We are located behind Mr Price and the Bright Lights store on Kylemore Road. We have lots of free parking available.

A Day to Finish What You Started – Finish-a-thon
At TOG, we love hacking, tinkering, and making things… but we’re also very good at accumulating half-finished projects. You know the ones: the “nearly working” circuit, the “just needs a weekend” code refactor, the 3D print that needs sanding, the costume that needs one final stitch, the repair you definitely meant to do months ago.
So we’re doing something about it.
We’re hosting a Finish-a-thon, a one-day, community-powered mini hackathon dedicated to making real progress on the projects that have been sitting in a box, on a shelf, or in a Git branch called `final_final_v3`.
Whether it’s coding, crafting, designing, writing, fixing, soldering, sewing, or sorting, this is your day to get it done (or at least get it properly moving again).
### Event Details
* **Date:** Saturday 24th of January
* **Time:** **11:00 AM to 7:00 PM**
* **Location:** TOG Hackerspace, Unit 1B Motor City, Kylemore Road, Dublin 12, D12 CF6V
### And afterwards
After the Finish-a-thon we’ll roll straight into our monthly social night, but this one will be a bit special, because it’s also TOG’s birthday. 🎂
So: progress during the day, then a proper catch-up in the evening with the gang.

### What’s the plan?
Nothing too formal. The whole point is momentum and community:
* **11:00 AM:** Arrive, grab a bench, tea/coffee, and settle in
* Share what you’re working on (or keep it quiet and just crack on, no pressure)
* Work through the day, ask questions, borrow a hand, offer a hand
* No prizes, just the satisfaction of progress, plus the usual TOG encouragement and problem-solving
### What can you work on?
Anything goes. If it’s a thing you started and you want to push it forward, it belongs here:
* Squash that annoying bug in your project or open-source code
* Finish an electronics kit gathering dust
* Finally wire up the enclosure, label the panel, tidy the loom
* Repair something that’s been sitting in the “I must fix that” pile
* Wrap up a design, write-up, or documentation you’ve been meaning to publish
* Revive a project you love but stalled on
No project? Also grand. There’s always someone who’d love a second pair of hands.

### What should you bring?
* Whatever parts, tools, and materials your project needs
* A laptop is usually a good shout
* TOG has plenty of tools and bits, but assume you’ll take home what you bring (and any half-finished bits you create)
### No tickets this time
There are no tickets or registration for this event, just show up and join in.
If you’ve any questions (or you’re not sure if your project idea fits), give us a shout and we’ll point you in the right direction.
See you Saturday. Let’s finish some things. 🔧✨

We’re right behind.

Freestyle 400 + Smashburgers!
**400**: Amazingly, this is our 400th event! A big, big, big thank you to all the members who have made the Hilliard Wine Club a great place to meet friends and drink wine. Thank you.
**Smashburgers**: We'll close the doors at Alive614 a little early this evening to take a short trip to Wilson's, a new restaurant/bar that replaced Yabo's. I'm going for the smash burgers, but if that's not in your culinary wheelhouse they have a fairly generous menu featuring "Smash burgers, wings, Tex‑Mex", etc. : https://wilsonshilliard.com/menu/ .
**On Freestyle night** \- just bring a bottle to share\. There is NO formal wine tasting like on other weeks\. Door charge is $10 \(cash or Venmo only please\)\. We may have some left over wines to clear out\! Glasses are provided\. Take Care\. See you there\.
**Parking**: There are several public parking lots near the Alive614 hall. Please be careful to NOT park in private parking lots. They do tow. Check Google maps to scope out your space. Anyone who is early could easily find a parking space on the street nearby. I am told that the Chase parking lot is safe after hours.
**Glasses**: …will be provided. Please note that after the wine tasting, the EMPTY glasses need to be returned to the boxes at the service table. Please do not make me hunt down your empty glass. Please be gentle, our glasses are fragile. Uh, they are made of glass!
**Food**: You are welcome to bring a snack to share. It is not required. Most people do though. If no one brings anything, there will be nothing.
**Code of Conduct**: Though mostly understood, it’s still worth mentioning. We don’t have rules per se, but we highly discourage the following topics of discussion because they are likely to incite anti-social responses - Sex, Politics, Religion. Please don’t mistake this as an attempt to limit your free speech rights but rather a guide to a place and time for appropriate discussions.
**After the lights go out**: After the last sip of wine, when we clean up and turn the lights out, if you still haven’t had enough of us, it is typical for a group to get together and go to a local eatery for food and/or drinks or coffee.
Again, We look forward to meeting new members and reuniting with old friends.
Sincerely, ***Paul Uttermohlen***,

Comedy Night + Open Mic
**Comedy Night + Open Mic + Freestyle**: We've hired a professional comedian to warm the group up for our open mic session. Members have been making me laugh for years and we've tossed around the idea of a comedy night / open mic. Well, It's time to step up and crack me up.
We'll start with Tristan Shae and a couple of his friends. Tristan is an alternative comic from Columbus, Ohio. A counselor by day, Tristan explores how comedy can improve mental health by telling jokes and stories that muse on how absurd life can be from squeaky clean topics to not so clean ones. Tristan produces the variety show Cheaper Than Therapy, hosts the weekly Problem Child Alt Comedy Open Mic at The Attic, and can be found engaging in all sorts of silliness around the city from stand up shows at The Nest Theater, The Attic, or The Funny Bone, to improv and sketch shows with various groups at various venues such as The Hashtag Comedy Club.
**On Freestyle night** \- just bring a bottle to share\. There is NO formal wine tasting like on other weeks\. Door charge is $10 \(cash or Venmo only please\)\. We may have some left over wines to clear out\! Glasses are provided\. Take Care\. See you there\.

Freestyle + Games
**Games**: Bring your favorite game to play with others or join in with a game that someone else brought. Board games. Card games. Please, no axe throwing games or other blood sports. It's not that I'm opposed to such things, it's just that clean up could be a mess and my First Aid certification is long expired.
(POST here in the comments what game you are bringing. Let us know what you're good at and what you want to play...)

Wine Tasting - Newcomers Night
This is "***New Members Night***." If you are one of the many folks on the fence about coming to your first wine tasting with the *Hilliard Wine Club*, this is the night to come. There will be many other new people, so you won't be alone. And the regulars will be there to help make you feel welcome. We're a relaxed and warm group. We hope to see you.
**SIDE NOTE:** New members are welcome to ALL our Friday night wine tastings, but this night is a special overture to those who don't want to feel that they are the only new person in the room. Don't worry. You won't be. And don't hesitate to RSVP to other events.
**OLD MEMBERS NOTE**: Hey Old Members! You're not excluded from this event. We expect to see you there to help make the new members feel welcome.
**Sample 4 different wines** this Friday for $15 (*Cash or Venmo only please*). Glasses are provided. Bring a snack to share. Bring a bottle to share if you care to. See all the details below for the Hilliard Wine Club Wine Tasting. In Person. In Real Life. Actual Wine from glass bottles with corks and everything.
**Wine**: Tastings will be $15 for four samples as always. And you are welcome to bring a bottle of your favorite wine to share with others. Participation in the wine tastings is optional. But since you’re going, I will buy enough wine to cover you. If you bring your own wine and do not participate in the tasting you will only pay $10 to cover the door charge.
**Parking**: There are several public parking lots near the Alive614 hall. Please be careful to NOT park in private parking lots. They do tow. Check Google maps to scope out your space. Anyone who is early could easily find a parking space on the street nearby.
**Glasses**: …will be provided. Please note that after the wine tasting, the glasses need to be returned to the boxes at the service table. Please be gentle, our glasses are fragile. Uh, they are made of glass!

**Extra Wine**: After everyone has had their samples, we remove the pouring spouts and any remaining wine is poured freely to whomever wants it. I hate having leftover wine.
**Queen of Hearts**: The Queen of Hearts raffle is a fundraiser for the club and a Barnum and Bailey type extravaganza - minus the dancing ponies, clowns, and actual circus. Bring your ***cash*** as the Queen does not accept American Express or other plastic.
**After the lights go out**: After the last sip of wine, when we clean up and turn the lights out, if you still haven’t had enough of us, it is typical for a group to get together and go to a local eatery for food and/or drinks or coffee.

Software ate the world, Agents are eating Software Engineering
2026 may be the last year many developers write code by hand. We need coding agents to solve complex problems in production codebases, but vibe coding alone won’t get us there. Vibe coding is all gas, no brakes. It burns up the context window until the agent slips on its own slop. You can go fast at first, but the more you stuff into the context window, the more tangled its outputs get. While the industry is rapidly increasing code generation speed, we still have to understand, review, merge, and maintain what gets shipped.
This talk featuring Michael Geiger will outline how coding agents (Claude Code + Gas Town) work and a framework for orchestrating them to solve complicated problems in complex codebases. It’s about steering the model: doing the research to align intent, planning the approach up front, implementing in parallel steps, and breaking early. Human judgment still matters, but it should be spent on high-leverage decisions: what to build, what to forbid, and “what is quality?”, not cleaning up slop. Attendees will leave with a checklist to identify workflow and environment gaps that hold agents back, so you and your team can ship higher-quality software starting tomorrow.
