June Stitch 'n Bitch
June Stitch 'n Bitch
🧶 **What’s Stitch ’n’ Bitch all about?** Think of it as the sassier, yarn‑covered cousin of a book club — but with far fewer rules and far more laughter. Stitch ’n’ Bitch is a global community built on the simple joy of making things with your hands *while* having a good old natter. Whether you’re into knitting, crochet, embroidery, cross‑stitch, weaving, or just aggressively untangling a ball of yarn you found at the bottom of a drawer, you’re in the right place. The crafts are the excuse — the banter is the real event. Expect: 🧵 Stitches dropped, picked up, and occasionally sworn at 🪔 A mix of beginners, pros, and ā€œI just like the vibesā€ attendees šŸ’¬ Chat ranging from wholesome catch‑ups to delightfully juicy gossip šŸ˜‚ The kind of easy, silly conversation that makes Monday nights feel a lot less Monday It’s cosy, it’s creative, it’s a little cheeky — and everyone’s welcome to pull up a chair and join the chaos. What to bring: B.Y.O. yarn, knitting needles/ crochet hooks or whatever you use to craft. Knitting/crochet or sewing patterns if applicable Work in progress craft projects Agenda: Arrive to the Alexandra at 7pm, there will be a table booked. Come say hello and let's get crafting!
Acting, Performance, Roles and Ritual
Acting, Performance, Roles and Ritual
We often think of acting as something that happens on stage — but what if performance is part of everyday life? What if, in some sense, we are always performing? This session explores the idea that while acting may be occasional, performance could be constant, raising questions about the roles we play, how they shape our sense of self, and the rituals that may help us process emotion and experience a sense of catharsis. From the roles we take on at work and in relationships, to the rituals that shape moments like weddings, funerals, and public events, much of what we do follows shared scripts and expectations. But does this mean we are simply playing roles — or is there something more to the self beneath them? How aware are we of the roles we inhabit — and what difference, if any, is there between acting and everyday performance? The idea for this evening’s event comes from the following discussion. You might like to listen to it in advance — it may give you a bit more to reflect on going into the conversation: [https://iai.tv/video/the-philosophy-of-performance-michelle-terry](https://iai.tv/video/the-philosophy-of-performance-michelle-terry) The session will begin with a short introduction (around 10 minutes) to set out the key ideas. After that, the emphasis is on discussion and participation. The aim is to create a space where ideas can be explored together, with time for questions, reflection, and open conversation. No prior knowledge is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to think together. **Where:** Downstairs room, Square Pig, Holborn (private room) **NB:** The event begins at 7pm, doors open at 6:50pm. Event ends at 9pm **Format:** 10-minute intro talk → vote on questions → small-group discussions → share insights with the whole room **Discounts:** If cost is a barrier, we want to make the session as accessible as possible. If you are a student, unemployed, or on a low income, please feel free to send me a direct message to get a reduced-price place. **Refunds:** If you are unable to attend and would like a refund, please send me a direct message at least 48 hours before the event. Unfortunately, I’m not able to offer refunds for cancellations made after this point, as it becomes difficult to reallocate places at short notice.

***šŸ“ŗ That glowing static on the screen feels like it could be a doorway to somewhere else!*** **šŸ‘‹** **Hey guys!** If you haven’t watched this film yet, this original **Tobe Hooper** classic still holds up remarkably well today. It has a unique creative overlap, blending **Steven Spielberg’s** warmth and sense of wonder with **Tobe Hooper’s** eerie horror sensibilities. The story follows a family whose peaceful suburban home is invaded by malevolent spirits that abduct their youngest daughter. The film is celebrated for its groundbreaking special effects, its seamless blend of family drama and paranormal terror, and its exploration of the hidden darkness lurking beneath suburban American life. Whether you’re discovering it for the first time or revisiting it after many years, I think this is one every horror fan should watch at least once. We’ll start things off at the **Victory House Bar Leicester Square** before proceeding to **Cineworld (Screen 2).** I'll be sitting in row **A7** if you would like to sit in that row. Long award-winner: Shuggie Bain (2020) by Douglas Stuart
Long award-winner: Shuggie Bain (2020) by Douglas Stuart
*Shuggie Bain is the Booker prize winning debut novel by Scottish-American writer Douglas Stuart. It tells the story of the youngest of three children, Shuggie, growing up with his alcoholic mother Agnes in 1980s post-industrial working-class Glasgow, Scotland.* If you've been before and would like to help pay for the Meetup group, you can contribute "Ā£1-2" per meeting (now collected around Dec & Jun). This optional payment does not apply to your first meeting and no-one is turned away for lack of funds. General plan: by 7pm some of us should be in the upstairs room at the pub but we usually start by discussing books to read in future in case anyone arrives late. Typically we'll talk about the book until after 8pm, when there's a short break to go to the bar, then any further discussion till after 9, though of course you can leave at any point. The Shirker's Rest takes cards, not cash, and serves a range of soft drinks, wine and spirits in addition to their beer and cider selection [https://theshirkersrest.co.uk/drinks/ ](https://theshirkersrest.co.uk/drinks/)\- they don't have a kitchen but encourage you to order from [https://yardsalepizza.com/menu/](https://yardsalepizza.com/menu/) ..! **COVID-19 safety measures** This is indoors though we should be able to open at least one window. Please do not attend if you feel unwell, or have a positive Covid test/symptoms - you are encouraged to a) be as vaccinated as you can, b) wear a mask if you prefer, c) follow current Covid precautions, especially if you're at risk of passing on or catching the virus

Pitch.London - Founder Matchmaking & Speed Problem Solving
Pitch.London - Founder Matchmaking & Speed Problem Solving
Pitch.london is a curated speed-networking event for founders, operators and serious builders. Short, structured conversations. Sharp prompts. Real chemistry, fast. The hardest problem in early-stage entrepreneurship is finding the right people. Most events leave it to chance. We don’t. The room is curated, the prompts are clear, and the format is built for high-signal encounters between people who are actually building something. In one evening, you can meet more relevant people than you might in months of random networking. Two formats. One room. Zero fluff. **01\. Founder matchmaking pitches** Sixty seconds to share who you are, what you’re building, and what would actually help right now. Whatever you’re looking for, the room is built to help you find it: people to build with, people to hire or be hired by, advisors and investors, or honest feedback on what you’re shipping. **02\. Group brainstorms** Small, time-boxed groups tackle a real challenge brought into the room. Bring a live problem you’re stuck on. Get five minds on it for ten minutes. Leave with new angles and next steps. **This room is for you if you’re:** * A founder seeking a co-founder * A founder seeking a first hire * An operator looking for a serious team to join * A technical builder open to commercial partners * A commercial builder open to technical partners * A second-time founder scoping the next thing * An angel investor close to the early-stage scene It’s probably not for you if you’re hunting for clients, selling services, or still working out what you’re looking for. **Run of show** * 17:30 to 18:00 Doors, drinks, soft start * 18:00 to 18:05 Welcome and the rules of the room * 18:05 to 18:35 Speed pitches: Round 1 * 18:35 to 19:15 Group brainstorms * 19:15 to 19:45 Speed pitches: Round 2 * 19:45 to 20:00 Open networking, then drinks at the citizenM Skybar **What’s included** Your Ā£25 covers your seat in the room and a drink at the citizenM Skybar after the programme. **First 30 in get a seat**
The Monk - Matthew Gregory Lewis
The Monk - Matthew Gregory Lewis
**Going back to some old school Gothic Horror this month!** Here’s the summary from Goodreads: Shocking, erotic and violent, The Monk is the story of Ambrosio, torn between his spiritual vows and the temptations of physical pleasure. His internal battle leads to sexual obsession, rape and murder, yet this book also contains knowing parody of its own excesses as well as social comedy. Written by Matthew Lewis when he was only nineteen, it was a ground-breaking novel in the Gothic Horror genre and spawned hundreds of imitators, drawn in by its mixture of bloodshed, sex and scandal. The meeting will start at 7pm and finish between 9.00 and 10pm (BST), with breaks in between. Just a reminder that the pub lets us to use the room at no charge so please do purchase drinks/food from the bar. Bringing in your own food from outside the pub is not allowed!
Black Stars in Dim Carcosa -Marco Visconti
Black Stars in Dim Carcosa -Marco Visconti
Black Stars in Dim Carcosa is the definitive Necronomicon field notes, the bridge between the book’s messy legend and the step-by-step reality of practice. It begins with the strange, contested history of the Simon Necronomicon and the postmodern blend of Mesopotamian magick and Lovecraftian literary myth it helped unleash, then poses a blunt question: what does the grimoire actually teach, and what changes when you put it into practice with discipline? At its core, this book offers a clear analysis of the Seven Gates and their operating logic, followed by step-by-step gatewalking practice, with practical attention to the Zonei, the Watcher and the Elder Signs, Marduk’s Fifty Names as operative keys, and the liminal cartography GANZIR and the Mauve Zone. From there, it opens a second, parallel approach to Mythos-inspired magick through a repeatable Lost Carcosa visionary praxis, circling Hastur and the King in Yellow with an emphasis on integration. Along the way, it treats dread as an epistemology and tangential tantrums as usable data, those sideways eruptions that can mark real contact, real risk, and real initiation

Bad Girls Book Club June 2026
Bad Girls Book Club June 2026
**Our June novel is: *The Eights* by Joanna Miller** **This month’s novel is set during World War I. It’s a 20th-century historical fiction story about friendship and war, with coming-of-age elements and a slightly haunted tone. The book is 384 pages in print and 10 hours and 9 minutes on audiobook.** Oxford, 1920. For the first time in its one-thousand-year history, Oxford University officially admits female students. Burning with dreams of equality, four young women move into neighboring rooms in Corridor 8. Beatrice, Dora, Marianne, and Otto—collectively known as The Eights—come from all walks of life, each driven by their own motives, each holding tight to their secrets, and are thrown into an unlikely, unshakable friendship. Dora was never meant to go to university, but, after losing both her brother and her fiancĆ© on the battlefield, has arrived in their place. Politically-minded Beatrice, daughter of a famous suffragette, sees Oxford as a chance to make her own way - and some friends her own age. Otto was a nurse during the war but is excited to return to her socialite lifestyle in Oxford where she hopes to find distraction from the memories that haunt her. And finally Marianne, the quiet, clever daughter of a village pastor, who has a shocking secret she must hide from everyone, even her new friends, if she is to succeed. Among the historic spires, and in the long shadow of the Great War, the four women must navigate and support one another in a turbulent world in which misogyny is rife, influenza is still a threat, and the ghosts of the Great War don’t always remain dead.
