Try Quadball in Clapham!šŸ
Try Quadball in Clapham!šŸ
**Come try quadball - a mixed-gender sport open to anyone and everyone regardless of gender, ability, or background.** Quadball, formerly quidditch, features players on each side aiming to outscore their opponents by throwing a volleyball through one of three opposing hoops, whilst defending their own hoops with tackles or knocking out opponents with dodgeballs - all while on a broom. **[Short Video on How To Play Quadball](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKUZ9LLH-_c)** These sessions are open training days with the **Werewolves of London Quadball Club** who train every week in Clapham Common ## Despite our quidditch origins, quadball is very much a sport unto itself and has no relation to or any involvement with Harry Potter or JK Rowling. We celebrate the inclusion of members of the LGBTQ+ community and welcome people of **all** backgrounds and gender identities to get involved. **These sessions are training sessions, and are for beginners and experienced players alike!** * Training is organised and managed by the Werewolves of London. * Expect a mix of drills, followed by games and socialising afterwards. **Please bring** * Suitable athletic or outdoor footwear * *Trainers or Football Boots* * Suitable clothing for exercise Whether you’re brand new to sport, a seasoned athlete, or just wanting to give something new and interesting a go - this is the place to be!

I’m leading this hike for London Social Hiking and sharing it here so my KoZa Trails crew know when I’m out on the trails in the UK. 😊 šŸ‘‰ **Please note:** all sign-ups and payments need to be done through London Social Hiking’s Meetup page here: [šŸ° (Beginners) Hiking Corfe Castle, Studland Bay & Old Harry Rocks](https://www.meetup.com/londonsocialhiking/events/314376284/?eventOrigin=group_upcoming_events) RSVPs on KoZa Trails are just to show interest and don’t secure a spot. Shout if you’ve got any questions—it would be lovely to see some familiar faces! ################# Come and join us on a hike to Corfe Castle – one of England's most majestic ruins! The first stone of Corfe Castle was laid more than 1,000 years ago and since then it has been at the centre of battles, plots and mysteries. It has been a treasury, military garrison, royal residence and family home. On this one-day hike, we'll discover this iconic medieval skyscraper standing 21 metres tall, on the top of a 55-metre-high hill. Corfe Castle dominates the skyline of the Purbecks for miles around and the views are simply breathtaking. Our trail will follow the Purbeck Way, taking in the eastern end of the 95-mile long Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage Site. We'll visit the iconic chalk formations, known as Old Harry Rocks, and admire stunning panoramic views of Studland Bay, Poole Harbour and the Dorset coast. **This hike is suitable for BEGINNERS** – a great way to experience hiking before joining our more difficult trips! 🤩 **HIKE HIGHLIGHTS** * Walk on the golden sands of Studland Bay and Knoll Beach * Visit the famous chalk formations, known as Old Harry Rocks. According to legend, the 65 million-year-old chalk outcrops were named Old Harry as a euphemism for the devil, who allegedly used to nap on the rocks. Another story tells of the pirate and smuggler, Harry Paye, who attacked many merchant ships as they left Poole Harbour, storing his spoils nearby. * Enjoy wonderful panoramic views of the Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage Coastline, the seaside towns of Poole and Swanage, and the Isle of Wight * See the ruins of the thousand-year-old Corfe Castle and visit the picturesque village of Corfe Castle * Discover how Studland Bay was used for military operations during the Second World War and visit Fort Henry World War Two observation bunker **DISTANCE & DIFFICULTY** Distance: 9 miles (14km). If you show up after we have started playing, and no one else has taken your spot, you might still be asked to sit the first half out in order to prevent confusion. There is nothing worse for organisers than people showing up late! • As mentioned above, we don’t charge, however, if you are a regular, we do ask you to donate some money once or twice a year for the upkeep and new equipment. For any questions, please contact one of the organisers. See you there! TFC Team
OBSESSION (2026) + DRINKS @ VUE
OBSESSION (2026) + DRINKS @ VUE
Details on getting tickets for movie + pre drinks below. **PREMISE** Over the past year, there’s been a new film on the festival circuit getting a ton of buzz. That film is Obsession, written and directed by Curry Barker (Milk & Serial), and audiences at Overlook Film Festival 2026 finally got the chance to see it on the big screen. A young man makes a wish on a ā€œOne Wish Willowā€ for one of his best friends to be madly in love with him. When she suddenly expresses feelings for him, what begins as a dream come true morphs into his worst nightmare. Since Obsession first hit the festival circuit, it has been impossible to ignore all the praise. If you’re at all worried the film has been overhyped, I can assure you with certainty this film not only lives up to the hype, but it might even exceed it. The film introduces audiences to Bear, a seemingly sweet guy who is rather reserved and awkward. He also happens to be in love with one of his best friends, Nikki. When he chokes during his chance to admit his feelings, he instead makes a wish on a ā€œOne Wish Willowā€ be bought at a metaphysical shop, wishing Nikki would be in love with him. While Bear doesn’t believe in the wish at first, he soon realizes its power when Nikki suddenly professes her love for him. At first, it seems like Bear is finally getting everything he’s ever wanted. Yet Nikki’s behavior becomes increasingly bizarre, frightening, and even dangerous. It’s a fantastic, disturbing story that shows how even the ā€œnice guysā€ are incapable of taking rejection, whil also delivering a classic ā€œbe careful what you wish forā€ tale. Bear ignores every warning sign because he has the girl of his dreams, even if it means the woman next to him is a hollow shell of the person he supposedly fell in love with. No matter how wild things get, he makes excuse after excuse, constantly putting his own desires ahead of what’s best for Nikki. The premise also has some unsettling implications when one considers Nikki’s actions throughout the course of her relationship with Bear are thanks to a wish rather than her own free will. On the surface, Obsession is a horror film because of how it depicts modern men and relationships. Even as Nikki becomes a completely different person, Bear is still happy because he has what he has always wanted. It shows that Bear was in love with the idea of Nikki and what a relationship with her would look like rather than actually caring about her as a human being. Obsession takes this even further by adding absolutely terrifying supernatural horrors on top of the more realistic relationship horrors. Barker builds on the terror, weaving in subtle scares and ambiance before shifting into outright disturbing happenings and jump scares. But don’t let the term ā€œjump scaresā€ deter you. The difference between these scares compared to other horror films is that these scares feel earned. They’re the kind of horrific moments that will likely have audiences jumping out of their seat whether it’s their first viewing or their tenth. It ensures Obsession will be as frightening to watch years later as it was the first time. **TRAILER** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMC8kkwbIQQ **CINEMA TICKETS** https://www.myvue.com/book-tickets/summary/10030/HO00021063/309568 **DRINKS** We can go for a drink before the movie at The Imperial. **SCHEDULE BREAKDOWN** 14:30 - Drinks at The Imperial, 5 Leicester St, London WC2H 7BL 15:15 - film at Vue Cinema London - West End (Leicester Square) - 3 Cranbourn St, London WC2H 7AL
London Bridge – poor health, bad debts but a Grade I pub at the end
London Bridge – poor health, bad debts but a Grade I pub at the end
**London Bridge – poor health, bad debts but a Grade I pub at the end** This walk is presented by Central London Humanists and led by volunteer Robert Hall. Humanists believe we have just one life to be lived rationally and well, with compassion for others. This event is a guided walk of +/- 2.25 hours pointing out places of interest. We will be walking 3.5 Km / 2.2 miles. This walk is a companion to the walk we did from Borough station almost exactly a year ago and there is a slight overlap. Amongst highlights we see a former church that is now being put to better use, view a building containing an operating theatre dating from 1822, a rather more modern hospital, the site of a debtors prison and a rather puzzling statue of Alfred the Great. We’ll also meet Henry (no – not the vacuum cleaner!). **Date:** Saturday 16th May 2026 **Time:** 2 pm with a prompt departure at 2.15 pm **Place:** Toilets at London Bridge Mainline station. The toilets are not well signposted so leave plenty of time to find them! **Finishes:** About 4.30 pm at The George, 75 Borough High St, Southwark SE1 1NH The walk is led by Robert – 07981963681. He can be contacted for further information but please note he won’t be able to respond to messages or calls after the walk has started. **The formal bit:** These walks are not suitable for dogs, sorry. CLH events are 18+ unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. The maximum group size is 40 people. If you have signed up but find you can't attend, **please change your RSVP** on Meetup (it’s very easy to do) as soon as possible so others can join. You are responsible for your own actions and safety; there is no liability on the walk leader or CLH for anything that may happen on the walk. You must be able to keep up with the walk leader at 4 Km/h (2.5 mph) for 5 Km (3 miles). It is participants' responsibility to safely cross roads. Where appropriate, pedestrian controlled lights will be used and obeyed unless it is obvious that the whole group can cross safely. When the group stops at a point of interest, please be mindful not to block pavements so members of the public can pass by safely. Don’t forget this is the UK and it may rain at any time! The walk will go ahead whatever the weather unless conditions are dangerous so please bring clothing for all seasons. **A donation of Ā£3 to Central London Humanists would be appreciated.** The majority of Central London Humanists events are free, but we welcome a Ā£3 contribution per head. This helps towards the running and organising of events, as well as various admin expenses. If you can't attend and would still like to contribute, or would prefer to pay online, please **[click here](https://checkout.square.site/merchant/ML71XMH66FX5E/checkout/ALWCDLQ3S7AVPLFZ62PZGXLU)**. We encourage anyone who is interested in Humanism and Central London Humanists to consider becoming a member: * If you wish to register as a full member of CLH (no membership fee) please register on our website: [https://centrallondonhumanists.org.uk/signup](https://centrallondonhumanists.org.uk/signup) * If you wish to join Humanists UK and support its work to promote humanism in British life, please go to: [Humanists UK – Think for yourself, act for everyone](https://humanists.uk/) We encourage dialogue, debate, and sharing of information, but ask people to keep their comments cordial. Any individual's views expressed (most definitely including the walk leader!) do not necessarily reflect the views of the group at large.

**Write together with other writers. If you write more surrounded by others, I hope you'll join these new sessions.** Starting up regular Saturday sessions where we writers will gather to write in the same space. There will be plenty of time for you to push forward your own individual projects, but I can provide a writing prompt, short exercise or challenge to anyone who needs them. You can book a spot for a guest with your ticket if you want to bring a writing friend with you. They don't have to be a member of our group. You can come to write for a short time or the whole thing. I've allowed two hours for the session but you can easily stay on longer if you wish. I will be there for 12pm when the pub opens to grab us the horseshoe of tables (pictured above) so most of us can be sitting in the same vicinity together. That said, it's a spacious pub so if you want to spread out and choose your own spot, feel free. Manners suggest that you'll buy a drink and perhaps a snack or two from the pub as a part of using their table. Please don't bring your own drinks from elsewhere (water bottles included) as the pub will never let us back in. See their menu on the website for more info. Location: The Square Pig, 30-32 Procter St, London WC1V 6NX. Closest tube is Holborn. Timing: Doors open 12pm for a 12:30pm start and we'll finish the main session by 3pm at the latest. Download the Meetup app (check the app store) to manage your RSVPs on the go and be notified about new workshops. Questions or concerns? Please post a comment below and I'll respond. I'm looking forward to it already!

Trails & Ales! Blendon Woods Metro Park / Forbidden Root Restaurant & Brewery
Trails & Ales! Blendon Woods Metro Park / Forbidden Root Restaurant & Brewery
**History** The history of [Blendon Woods Metro Park](https://www.metroparks.net/parks-and-trails/blendon-woods/) began long before its 1951 opening, rooted in a landscape of rugged ridges and deep ravines that made the land unsuitable for traditional farming. In 1945, a report proposing a metropolitan park system for Franklin County specifically highlighted these cliffs of Bedford Shale as some of the "wildest land in the vicinity". Following this recommendation, the recently formed park district purchased the first 229 acres in early 1949. Because the terrain was so uneven, developers had to cut a mile-and-a-half-long roadway through dense woods just to bring in heavy equipment. This initial preservation effort ensured that the mature second-growth hardwood forests remained largely untouched by the urban expansion spreading toward Westerville. Opening day arrived on Labor Day, September 3, 1951, marking Blendon Woods as the second park in the Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks system. The final push to open was a frantic race; the State Highway Department only finished the primary gravel access road four days before the gates opened. Early staff members, consisting of just four full-time employees, had to hand-dig pit toilets and learn construction skills on the fly to build the first picnic shelters. Despite the dusty conditions and limited facilities, the park was an immediate success, drawing massive crowds from across Central Ohio. By the end of the 1950s, annual visitation had already climbed to over 190,000 people. As the surrounding suburbs grew in the 1960s, the park faced severe overcrowding that threatened its natural habitats. In response, Franklin County voters passed the first Metro Parks levy in 1960, providing the funds necessary for a decade of steady expansion. During this era, the park nearly doubled in size, growing from 264 acres to over 570 acres by 1968. Planners also addressed a critical water shortage by collaborating with the U.S. Soil and Conservation Service to build a lake in 1964. This body of water originally served as a temporary reservoir before its role shifted toward conservation and wildlife support. The 1970s marked a transition toward the specialized wildlife and educational focus for which the park is known today. In 1971, the Walden Waterfowl Refuge was established around the 11-acre Thoreau Lake, creating a sanctuary that remains restricted to provide a quiet habitat for migratory birds. A formal nature center was also developed during this period, expanding on the guided Sunday walks that had been a park staple since the early 1950s. The park’s famous "Monarch Mansion" also became a prominent fixture, starting a long tradition of raising and releasing thousands of monarch butterflies each September. These initiatives cemented the park’s reputation as a premier destination for birders and nature enthusiasts. In more recent decades, Blendon Woods has continued to modernize while maintaining its wilderness character. The 10-acre Natural Play Area was added in 2017, encouraging kids to explore the ravines and woods off-trail. This was followed by the opening of a $1.5 million inclusive playground in April 2025, designed to accommodate children of all physical abilities. The nature center also underwent major renovations to include immersive, three-dimensional exhibits and a new butterfly house. Today, the park encompasses 653 acres, preserving a unique geologic and biological corridor amidst the bustling Westerville and Northeast Columbus area. **Map of the Park** Here is a map of [Blendon Woods](https://www.metroparks.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/BLN_map_Inclusive-Playground-and-Butterfly-Trail_May-2025_1980px.png). **Summary** For this event, we will hike the Lake View, Hickory Ridge, Ripple Rock, Overlook, Brookside, and Sugarbush Trails. This sounds like a lot, but it will really be only a little over five miles. Blendon Woods has a few hills here and there, but it's not one of the more strenuous metro parks. **Where We'll Meet** We'll meet just in front of the Nature Center. This is about a mile into the park from the main entrance. You have to go past the Ranger Station and the Shadblow Reservable Area to get to it, so don't stop too early at the Ranger Station and get it confused with the Nature Center. **After the Hike** Afterward, we will head over to [Forbidden Root Restaurant & Brewery](https://forbiddenroot.com/restaurants/columbus-ohio/) at Easton for [drinks](https://forbiddenroot.com/restaurants/columbus-ohio/#dinner-menu) and [food](https://forbiddenroot.com/wp-content/uploads/Cbus-Food.pdf). We should be there by 5 if you can't make the hike and just want to join us for drinks. The brewery's actual address is [4080 Worth Ave, Columbus, OH 43219](https://www.google.com/maps/place/4080+Worth+Ave,+Columbus,+OH+43219/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x88388a86d10b6619:0x4d42b470a5cf11d3?sa=X&ved=1t:242&ictx=111); however, I recommend pointing your GPS to the [Worth Garage](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Worth+Garage/@40.0542293,-82.9137962,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x88388b4df6082825:0x17582f0eccd9dda1!8m2!3d40.0542293!4d-82.9137962!16s%2Fg%2F11rzfvvv8b?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDQxNS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D) across the street. Parking in this garage is free as long as you're not on the first floor, and it is literally right next to the brewery.
