Meetup #17: Writing Handmade apps
Meetup #17: Writing Handmade apps
We'll come together to talk about writing custom apps. Macoy Madson will show how he applied Handmade principles to creating a custom CAD application for a manufacturing company. He will go over the various features and his criteria for what he picked to build vs buy, as well as lessons learned from the shortcomings of his choices. If we have time, we'll also look at compiling native code to WebAssembly. **Agenda:** \- 2pm \- 3pm: Custom app presentation and WebAssembly \- 3pm \- 4pm: Open\-ended discussions\, presentations\, etc\. \- 4pm \- whenever: We'll go get food nearby\! **What we do** Presentations on lower-level, foundational programming topics, ethical software, knowledge sharing, mentoring, and discussion. **Who we are:** We are all about handmade software. Rather than focus on frameworks, heavy abstractions, and buzzwords - we typically create projects or research topics that build an understanding of foundational computing concepts, essential data structures, and hardware/software interaction. **What to bring?** Bring a laptop, project, or just a curious mind. If you're not sure you're ready to contribute, don't worry: we're all here to share our passions and hone our craft. **If you arrive late:** Please enter the room quietly as to not disrupt anyone that is presenting. You can take any empty seat.

Cherry Blossom Arcade 2026
Calling all gamers, developers, and video game enthusiasts! Dive into the vibrant world of indie games and play unique creations by talented local developers. Whether you're a seasoned gamer, an aspiring developer, or just curious about the indie scene, this is your chance to connect, play, and celebrate DCโ€™s gaming community. **PARKING INFO**: Parking around this area is expensive ($15-20) and a bit annoying. However the library is right outside Gallery Place metro station. I would highly recommend taking the metro, or driving to a metro station, parking there, and then take the metro in. Location: MLK Library Basement Floor
Board & Card Game Night
Board & Card Game Night
Join us for a fun-filled evening of strategy games with the Glen Burnie Board Card Game Meetup Group! Whether you're a seasoned gamer or new to the world of tabletop games, this event is perfect for everyone. Expect a variety of exciting games such as board games and card games, new friends and enjoy a relaxing and social atmosphere while engaging in friendly competition. This game night promises to be filled with laughter, strategic thinking, and unforgettable memories. Don't miss out on a fantastic opportunity to connect with fellow gamers and have a great time! Q: Is this event free? A: Overall, yes, until you get addicted and start buying games too! There is an expectation to at least buy a drink from Panera to show our appreciation for having us. Q: Where is everyone? A: Everyone is located in the very back of Panera. However, we have grown and sometimes we tend to also take up half of Panera at times and can be found anywhere including outside when it is nice. Q: What time is the event? A: We start at 3:30 and we aren't strict on punctuality. Just keep in mind when arriving late you may have a little wait on joining in on a game. Q: How do I start playing a game? A: We all just kind of figure it out as we go. Just introduce yourself and we will try to help you get into a game Q: What kind of games do you play? A: We tend to play fast-paced games that are less than an hour long. However, we have grown and now have some members that like to play longer and more strategic games. Q: Can I eat while I play? A: Often yes, but always ask the owner of the game if it's ok. Q: Do I have to bring a game? A: No. we have a ton of games and we are always expanding our collection Q: Can I bring a game? A: Absolutely! Every game at this event is brought by attendees. Just be sure you're familiar enough with the rules to teach new players. Q: What if I didn't RSVP? A: We would ask that you RSVP for a future meetup and go to that one. We have gotten quite popular to the point of almost taking over the Panera. In the winter when it is cold out we canโ€™t play games in the outside space and we donโ€™t want to ruin our good standing or get in trouble with Panera. RSVPing also gives members a chance to know who they expect to see in the group. It also helps with emergency situations where we may need to move our location last minute and we can let you know so you donโ€™t end up going to the wrong place. Q: What if I have a problem with someone in the group? A: Please let the event organizers be aware of the issue or send a personal message to the organizer of the group. We are an inclusive group but if someone is the type of person who regularly ruins the enjoyment of the others in the game group, we may decide to remove them from the group. We will take it seriously and determine the course of action. Thanks for joining and hope you have a great time when you attend. If you have a request or questions please feel free to message me ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

ASL Brunch on Sundays in Greenbelt
Join our ASL Brunch on Sundays in Greenbelt! All ASL users and learners are welcome. Brunches are alternately held at two restaurants in Greenbelt, both in the same town plaza. ODD WEEKS: 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays, we meet at Cedars of Lebanon, 103 Centerway. EVEN WEEKS: 2nd and 4th Sundays, we meet at New Deal Cafรฉ,113 Centerway. We are the Greenbelt ASL Community, a group of both Deaf and hearing people who hang out, chat about everyday goings on, trade stories, get to know each other better, and of course, enjoy food together. Many members use ASL as their primary language, several are interpreters or other fluent ASL users, while others are ASL learners who wish to improve their skills while making new friends. Before or after brunch, you can visit the farmer's market and small coop grocery store in the plaza. Please RSVP so we can contact you via email if needed. Our group is on Facebook as Greenbelt ASL Community. Some longtime Brunch attendees don't mark their attendance here, so feel free to stop by even if you don't see others who have RSVP'd on Meet-up.

Bring your Raspberry Pi, Arduino, microcontroller, or any other electronic project and join fellow electronics makers for a night of creativity and collaboration! This session is open forum to share your current projectsโ€”whether complete or in progress, itโ€™s all interesting! Whether youโ€™re deep into embedded systems, exploring new ideas, or just getting started, youโ€™ll find a welcoming space to collaborate, share, and get inspired. **New to electronics or curious about tinkering?** Youโ€™re absolutely welcome. If youโ€™re a beginner and want to experiment, Iโ€™ll have a couple of starter kits available so you can try things outโ€”whether thatโ€™s blinking your first LED, putting something on a display, or experimenting with simple sensors. No pressure and no experience requiredโ€”just an interest in learning and building. While we continue to pursue a more permanent venue for this Meetup, weโ€™ll be using public library facilities based on availability. This session will be at the Worthington Park Library in the Olentangy Meeting Room.

This session introduces Squad: an open-source framework for multi-agent orchestration that lets you define teams of AI agents with specific roles, responsibilities, and expertise. We'll progress from Copilot basics to the Copilot CLI, explore how Agents add autonomy, and see how Instructions and Skills let you customize agent behavior. Then, the climax: a live demo where a Squad team of 3 agents (Lead, Developer, Tester) stands up and builds a working application in real-time, showcasing true multi-agent collaboration. Whether you're new to AI or exploring how to scale your use of Copilot, this session will show you what's possible when agents work as a team. **YouTube Link** TBD
