Whether you've never done improv before, or you've done it for so long you were quoted in *Truth in Comedy*, or anywhere in between, come join us! Swing by *Gresso's* for the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**! Tonight's a special one; this is "Long form" night! Most nights here at Improv Meetup, we play "short form" games, where the host has established rules that the players must adhere to. These scenes frequently do not tell a connected story and are focused on following those rules; games such as "Alphabet Game" where every next sentence needs to start with the next letter of the alphabet, or "Interrogation" where it's a guessing game. Tonight is focused on "long form", where we will see groups of people come up and do a sort of improvised play. There may be rules to the structure itself to adhere to, or it may be more free form, but doing this allows players to establish a shared world, and to establish characters and callbacks. While your average game may last 2-3 minutes, a long form set may last longer, and have 4+ people involved. This may be a more complicated night, but we will make sure you feel supported to try this out. The idea behind improvised comedy is to create entire scenes from scratch. A suggestion is taken from the audience and laughter is built on the spot. This can be done in game form, like *Whose Line Is It Anyway, Make Some Noise,* or *Wild 'n Out*; it can also be done in a longer way, to tell a complicated story, like *TJ & Dave*. Our meetup, which is central Ohio's longest running (and FREE!) weekly comedy event, brings the games for you to play in a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment. Afterward, many members will hang out in *Gresso's* itself and get to know each other. Not only is this a lot of fun, but you get to work on thinking faster on your feet, your public speaking, plus it's an excellent way to meet new people and build relationships that will last a lifetime, and you do that while laughing your butt off! Join us for a **Martial Arts & Self Defense** workshop hosted by **Darin Waugh**, an original member of the school and author of multiple martial arts books, including one of our history: [The History & Practice of Do–Jung–Ishu: "The Art of Fighting"](https://www.lulu.com/shop/darin-waugh/the-history-practice-of-do-jung-ishu-the-art-of-fighting/ebook/product-1epnn759.html?page=1&pageSize=4). It will be held at **Tuttle Park (240 W Oakland Ave., Columbus, OH 43201)** on **September 20th @1pm.** Ages 18+. At Darin's workshop, you can expect a casual vibe and **hands-on education** of **efficient** and **effective** concepts and techniques from Do–Jung–Ishu's take on **Jeet Kune Do**, Bruce Lee's legacy. **Sticky Hands** **(Chi Sao)**, a method of controlling your opponent while still maintaining offensive pressure in the clench, is one such concept, and Darin Waugh is one of the best in the world to do it. What you are introduced to in this workshop can be taken with you and grown in future classes with us or wherever you prefer to train. The workshop will last as long as Darin stays to teach, and however long attendees decide to stick around and practice. The fee is **$10/attendee,** and **all proceeds go towards maintaining the club and for Darin's time.** Our shirts may be purchased at the event for $25, and they function as a **%50 discount** when worn to classes.
