Chelsea Afternoon: New York Day Trip (postponed from September 26th)

I think a case can be made that the Chelsea area of Manhattan contains more galleries than anywhere else in the universe. (I'm making an assumption here that other intelligent life somewhere out there doesn't have "art" and "galleries" as we know them. :)) Whether or not the above is true, let's at least make a dent in the huge number of galleries in this neighborhood by starting in the middle and heading south. I'll work up a detailed and specific itinerary within the coming weeks, but let's say straight off that we'll meet at 1:00 at Jim Kempner Fine Art, a gallery on the Northwest corner of 23rd Street and 10th Avenue that is pretty much impossible to miss because looks like a multi-level contemporary house: https://www.jimkempnerfineart.com/ The first thing you encounter upon walking in is the sculpture garden: https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-new-york-city-ny-usa-modern-architecture-art-jim-kempner-fine-art-50949706.html https://www.vaadia.com/exhibitions/jimkempner_2011.shtml So let's meet there unless it's raining or really hot, in which case, let's just go inside and meet on the first floor. I will probably be sticking around to attend the Brooklyn Book Festival the next day and can help people get to trains and busses if that's wanted or needed. :) More to come!

All-New Fall Chelsea Art Gallery Walk

I hope you are having a wonderful Summer so far. Please join us for the first art gallery MeetUp walk of this Fall on 10/03/26 at 11 AM. Chelsea is about to have dozens of openings starting on September 10th. This walk includes new solo shows by international artists, including painting, sculpture, photography, and more as available. Join us as we explore a fantastic museum-quality show of sculptures and others works by Lynda Benglis, spanning five decades of her career. Benglis broke new ground in 1968 by pouring latex on the floor of her studio, essentially blurring the lines between painting and sculpture. At Gagosian, we will explore a superb Brice Marden retrospective, including works on loan from major institutions. We will explore why Marden is viewed as a highly influential abstract artist whose work is Minimalist yet deeply humanistic. Please note $35 early bird pricing up to 2 weeks prior to the walk.

Painting Meatpacking

A drizzle is expected this weekend, so let's hide out under the many awnings of the Meatpacking District. The High Line and the Whitney are also nearby! Our meeting point will be at 11am in Gansevoort Plaza. Check in with me on-site so I know who's attending, and then we'll disperse to our individual painting spots. At 2pm, we'll meet back up to show off our art and discuss the day. Gather your materials (watercolor, oils, gouache, acrylics, marker: all are welcome) and join with other artists for the joys and challenges of painting outside!
