Grab your pad and drawing tools and escape the world for a couple of hours with your friends at The Old Stone House Park! Draw the human figure! Meet Artists at Gowanus Open Studios

Once you get to the TI Studios from the elevator, follow the signs for Sweet Lorraine Gallery. We'll look at the art exhibit there and then head out to see other studios in the building. Some artists will have art available for purchase, and others will be for viewing only. **How to get there** TI Arts Studio's Entrance is up a ramp at 183 Lorraine Street in the Red Hook Neighborhood of Brooklyn. New date for Chelsea Afternoon: New York Day Trip w/the Art Appreciation Group

I think a case can be made that the Chelsea area of Manhattan contains more galleries than anywhere else in the universe. (I'm making an assumption here that other intelligent life somewhere out there doesn't have "art" and "galleries" as we know them. :)) Whether or not the above is true, let's at least make a dent in the huge number of galleries in this neighborhood by starting in the middle and heading south. Instructed Drawing Night at the Met

Instructed Drawing Night at the Met focuses on charcoal pencil drawing through close study of the museum’s Greek and Roman figure sculptures. Our instructor, Elizabeth Johnson, will guide students in developing technical control of charcoal pencils while working from these classical forms. After a brief demonstration, students will create charcoal drawings around the gallery with guidance from the instructor. Monday Night Figure Drawing

Join us for Monday Night Figure Drawing from 6:30 - 9:00 pm. We draw from a live model. This uninstructed session begins with short poses for attendees to warm up. The longest poses are 20 minutes. We take a 5-minute break every 20 minutes. There are cookies and fresh water available. We listen to music while we work. Introduction to Drawing for Beginners (3 Sessions) with Simon

Do not worry if you don’t know how to draw. This class is specifically designed for you. This class is for you even if you have drawn a bit but want an organized approach to drawing to speed up the learning process and prevent wasted and frustrating efforts. **CLASS SCHEDULE:** Tuesdays, October 13, 20, and 27 - 6:30-9pm The ticket price includes all three dates. Students will learn the fundamentals of drawing, including paper and pencil basics, how to use shape and form to create depth, measuring and proportion, and rendering form with shade. What we will cover: Session One: We will learn how to draw the 3-dimensional world on a 2-dimensional surface using and enhancing basic forms. Session Two: We will learn how to use proportion in our drawings while adding a more thoughtful approach to our pencil abilities. Session Three: We will learn shading concepts and create a well-formed, proportioned, shaded drawing. Paper: We will examine the difference between Sketch and Drawing paper, smooth and rough surfaces, and those designed for pencils vs. charcoal. Pencils: Students will learn about the different grades of pencils and how to use them to create more effective drawings. We will practice cross-hatching and shading with pencil “washes.” Erasers: Using both kneaded and plastic erasers, students will create different drawing effects in their drawings. Marginalia Literary Salon 003 | The Picture of Dorian Gray

*What happens when beauty becomes something to live by?* For Salon 003, Marginalia turns to Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray. A decadent, provocative novel about art, influence, desire, and the dangerous distance between the self we present to the world and the one that exists beneath it. **What is the book about?** First published in 1890 and later revised and expanded by Wilde, the novel emerged from the worlds of Aestheticism and Decadence, where questions about beauty and art collided with Victorian ideas of morality, respectability, and desire. More than a century later, its questions feel remarkably alive: Does beauty change what we allow people to get away with? How much responsibility do we bear for the people who influence us? Can we treat a life as a work of art? And does art have any obligation to make us better? Together, we’ll follow those questions wherever they lead…from portraiture, pleasure, and self-invention to influence, secrecy, morality, and the uneasy relationship between art and life. **Any requirements?** No literary background is needed. Come having read the book, and bring whatever stayed with you: annotations, questions, disagreements, favorite passages, or simply an idea you can’t quite shake. Any complete edition is welcome. You do not need to purchase a special “uncensored” edition to participate. **Important to Note** * Please update your RSVP at least 48 hours before the salon if you can no longer attend. Because space is intentionally limited, repeated no-shows may result in removal from the group. * Salons are limited to 10 readers.
