Zen Tea Ceremony Inside an Art Installation

Zen Tea Ceremony Inside an Art Installation

Sun, Feb 22, 10:30 PM
From Culver City Art Oasis

**A Zen Tea Ceremony** is the last tea ceremony held within Flora Kao’s installation, *Hope*. Surrounded by ginkgo leaves and lines of packaging twine, we gather at sunset for a ceremonial matcha experience that bridges contemporary art, Zen meditation, and traditional tea practice. The afternoon unfolds in two parts: **Part I — The First Cup (Served)** Guests will receive a bowl of freshly whisked matcha prepared in ceremony. You will learn how to receive the bowl, turn it respectfully, and drink mindfully. We reflect on impermanence, dust, endurance, and the quiet tension held within the installation. **Part II — The Second Cup (Hands-On for Those Interested)** Guests who wish to remain will be guided through a mini tutorial on whisking matcha: – Proper grip and whisk motion – Water temperature and foam – Basic Zen tea etiquette – Care of tools We will prepare a unique bowl for each of our guests. This is both: • A sun bathe ritual within an artwork • A practical introduction to tea and meditation **Contribution: $35 per person, please pay via our Partiful link:** https://partiful.com/e/HL2r8Y9SqVRqiCiEzXYL?c=zVbF8bIo Includes two cups of matcha and the full artistic experience. No prior tea experience required. \* Capacity is limited to **7 guests per session** to preserve intimacy and focus. If interest exceeds capacity, an additional session may be scheduled at 3:45pm.

We are a community of **artists, thinkers, technicians, and curious minds** from all walks of life exploring how technology can serve human flourishing in 2026! Whether if you're an AI enthusiast or skeptic, a creative professional or someone just beginning to navigate our rapidly changing world, this group is for you! The conversations we have at our **“support group for the technological singularity”** are designed to meet everyone at their level of understanding - no technical background required, just an open mind and genuine curiosity about our collective future. How do we preserve community, creativity, connection, and purpose in this new age? Our focus for 2026 is to build out our community into somewhere between a participatory lab, an art salon and a social group. So we will be talking about and experimenting with LLMs, vibe coding and AI generated imagery and sound. We discuss the ethical and cultural implications of this new powerful set of tools as well as trade tips, discuss use cases and share workflows for getting the most out of this new era. We are also open to discussing anything relating to technology, culture, and the arts. Our meetings have a super casual and open atmosphere where all are welcome to contribute. Feel free to come late or leave early. And I will (as always) be encouraging people to create art and will be translating for non-geeks. So, no matter if you love technology, or if you think it is destroying the very fabric of our society, or if you are just starting to experiment with AI to help better market yourself or your business, we would love to help get you started and/or learn more about your experiences. **Here is a list of the typical topics…** **AI in Media** * Deepfakes, propaganda and the future of media * AI ethics and copyright law * Will AI destroy Hollywood or save it? * Accessibility and story telling **For the Creators (new media and old)** * Discuss releases of AI tools and services * Tips and techniques for prompting * Voicing and animating your characters * Editing and the AI visual effects revolution * Combining traditional filmmaking with AI * How to go viral, fund raising, and SMM **For the Haters (who are welcome)** * Is using AI cheating, where is the line? * Is AI art soulless? What gives art a soul? * How will younger people learn w/o “putting in the work” * How to us AI ethically **AI for Social Change** * The changing job market. What skills will matter in 10 years? * Demonization of knowledge and resources * The 2nd Cognitive Revolution, emergent inelegance * A new age of inhuman efficiency * Unemployment, UBI and the future of “work”
