But their frustration ends at our front door! Whenever an Artist speaks about a "lineage" of instruction, it is a proud declaration of where their knowledge came from. Ours is a fusion of Northern European, Classical Italian and California Impressionism. With this background we can hone in on an individual's choice of style once foundations in painting are achieved. The first “initiation” exercise that students in this class must accomplish is our Compass Rose exercise. This skill-based exercise teaches the student so many lessons; first, basic skills like brush strokes, values, color mixing, blending, glazing and much more. We work with a limited palette of colors and then modern pigments for final glazing. At the end of this project the student will be introduced to a new way of “seeing” and develop a visual language which will last a lifetime. The next exercise is a tradition t hat has been practiced for centuries... copying old master paintings. It’s as if Di Vinci himself were sitting on your shoulder and speaking to you, revealing his secrets from centuries past...and is now your teacher ...and all you have to do... is listen. After a series of master paintings, I encourage students to explore many other styles. Palette knife paintings, landscapes, still lifes and to explore images that move them in some way but to continue to use and apply the principles that they have learned in their previous exercises. **What You Will Learn** Renaissance Painting Techniques Produce monochromatic studies How to apply color & how to mix paint Alchemy of materials and mediums Glazing Secrets Live demonstrations and personalized instruction to help you learn faster Personalized one-on-one instruction **You must bring your own materials.** Get the supply list here ([https://www.klineacademy.com/supply-lists](https://www.klineacademy.com/supply-lists)) **Cheryl Kline**, founder and owner of Kline Academy is a working artist whose works are found in the collections of noted individuals and institutions around the world. She has won numerous awards including an Honorable mention from the Portrait Society of America and Salmagundi Club of New York. She studied with master artist Jan Saether at The Bruchion School of Realist Art the same building as Kline Academy is located today, and at The Florence Academy of Art in Italy. Kline has a Degree in Commercial Art from Woodbury University. **KLINE ACADEMY of FINE ART** **3264 Motor Ave, LA 90034 (near National)** **[www.klineacademy.com](https://www.klineacademy.com/)** **Contact Information:** Artist@Klineacademy.com Staff@Klineacademy.com Office Phone: (310) 837-7194

This class is essential for you. Speed up the learning process, “cut to the chase” and enroll in our new Sight Size measuring for the figurative artist and become a “Classical Illusionist” Painting the cast using Sight-Size develops the ability to see shapes and proportions accurately, by continuously comparing the drawn shapes with the cast. This class will develop the accuracy of drawing skills, the ability to correctly judge and paint values, and finesse transitional tones and edges to give the painting the illusion of three-dimensions. The three main objectives of this class: 1\. Drawing \- draw the shapes of the cast in correct proportion\, beginning with the big shapes then the smaller shapes\. 2\. Values\- Learn to correctly judge values by using 5\-7 tone scale which we will mix on the palette\. We will begin by first establishing the three major value relationships: the light shape\, the shadow shape and the background\. 3\. The Illusion of three\-dimensions: Finally we paint the transitional halftones and soften the edges of the form\. This step gives the painting three\-dimensional qualities\, and the form will take the 3D qualities of an object sitting in a space\. These are essential skills to have in your tool box as you move forward to painting portraits, still life, illustrations, etc. **What You'll Learn** Draw the shapes of the cast in correct proportion, beginning with the big shapes down to the small shapes. Learn to correctly judge values by using 5-7 tone scale. Learn to describe how light travels across the form (your cast) Turn and soften the edges of the form. Paint the cast to look like a three dimensional object on the canvas. Learn essential skills to have in your tool box as you move forward to painting portraits, still life, illustrations, etc. Live demonstrations and personalized one-on-one instruction
