Life class for painters
Mon, Sep 28, 1:30 PMLife drawing classes tend to involve short poses which seldom allow time for painters to adjust their paintings sufficiently. In this class we will work with a life model who will take a single pose for the two hours each week, giving us more time to adjust and correct our paintings. Artists of all levels are welcome to attend, but this is a self directed class and no tuition will normally be given. Please bring your own water-based painting material such as acrylics, gouache or watercolours as the room is not equipped for oil-based paints. There is a sink in the kitchen adjoining the studio room where water can be obtained. The two hour session will start at 2.30pm and end at 4.30pm with a 15 minute tea break at 3.30pm. Newington Green Meeting House is an historic Unitarian Chapel situated on the North side of Newington Green. Access to the class will be by the side door; please ring the bell when you arrive. The charge for the class is £12

Sat, Sep 19, 9:00 AMThroughout the year, we will work into the first part of Form 108, which is an essential foundation for beginners. We begin with gentle stretching and some preparatory exercises, then we will work in detail on the first movement of the form. We practice partner exercises, which are an essential part of our school : if you wish to avoid contact with your partner, please let me know at the beginning of class. We finish the class with Qigong, the posture for regaining calm. Slow down for a few hours of creativity, shades of blue, and nature at this cyanotype taster workshop at Trinity Buoy Wharf. Join *BE KA Art Studio*, Elena’s riverside atelier at Trinity Buoy Wharf, for a hands-on cyanotype taster session. Cyanotype is one of the oldest photographic printing processes – and one of the most satisfying and sustainable. Using sunlight, water, and natural materials, you'll arrange botanicals, feathers, shells, and found objects onto coated paper, expose them to light, then rinse your print and watch the image bloom in that distinctive, deep, luminous blue. No cameras, no screens, no prior experience needed. Just you, some plants, and the light drawing shapes for you. If the weather's overcast, UV light has you covered. You’ll leave with your own original cyanotype artworks. **What You'll Do** * Arrange botanicals, wooden letters, and other objects to compose your own cyanotype prints * You're welcome to bring small objects, lace, flowers or negative film of your own if you'd like * Expose your work in sunlight — or UV light * Develop your prints in water and watch the images appear **Duration**: Allow approximately 1.5–2 hours, depending on the group size. **What's Included** Everything is provided, including: * 2 x A5 coated paper sheets in your choice of colour, or small square coated paper * Botanicals, feathers, shells, and natural materials (feel free to bring your own if you'd like) * Small wooden craft letters * Apron **Good to Know** * No prior experience necessary — suitable for complete beginners * Step-free access and disabled toilets available * Children must be accompanied by an adult * The studio is close to local favourites such as *The Orchard Café* and *Layers Bakery*, if you'd like a drink or snack before or after (both open daily until 4 pm). Following our mixed length pose formula this is an ideal class to develop your practice and get support with any issues you are trying to resolve in your practice. We serve hot vegan food in the break too, so don't worry if you are hungry after work. Expect a warm atmosphere and a wide variety of skill levels, equipment, easels and a vibrant, welcoming community artists. Buses: Nrs. 8, 388, D3 - stop Pollard Row. Nrs. 26, 48, 55 - stop Hackney Road. Nrs. 106, 254 - stop Old Ford Road. Nr. 309 - stop York Road. When walking/cycling, there is a footpath behind the Tesco's on Bethnal Green Road that will get you there faster (see highlight on map above). If driving you will need to go via Hackney Road and turn left on Mansford St, follow to the end of the Street where you will see the Garrett Centre on your left.
