Filmonik Melbourne is an open filmmaking group with monthly open-screen screenings like an open-mic for films. Meet at Eclipse on Tuesday July 28th for our 130th screening and it's our proven mix of immediate, spontaneous, crafty, fun, inventive and weird short films. You should expect comedies, a bit of drama, animation maybe, there's generally one suspense/thriller, one music video, some fun trash, horror or documentary but sometimes we don't even know what will be playing. Films are generally under 8 minutes to keep things fresh and fun, followed by a quick QA with the director to hear about the process. Join me for a big night at the movies — the brand-new **Spider-Man: Brand New Day** on the huge Xtremescreen at HOYTS Cinema District Docklands. A fresh Spidey adventure on a giant screen with big sound is exactly the kind of thing that's more fun with a crowd, so let's go along together. We'll meet outside the cinema gates at 6pm, head in as a group, grab our seats and settle in before the lights go down. Planetarium: Forests & Ocean Voyages

Join me for a night under the dome at the Melbourne Planetarium, where we'll catch **Fulldome Showcase One** as part of the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF). Fulldome films wrap the entire ceiling in imagery, so instead of looking at a screen you're inside it — a genuinely immersive way to watch a film. We'll meet at the Planetarium gates at 6:30pm to say hi, head in together to scan tickets and grab our seats, and settle in for the films kicking off at 7pm. The showcase runs until around 8:45pm, where the meetup wraps up. This is a casual social meetup so we can head along together — it isn't run by, affiliated with, or endorsed by MIFF, Melbourne Planetarium, or Scienceworks. It reveals the forest as a single living, breathing organism full of connection and resilience, and a poetic call to protect the ancient woods we have left. *Vaka Moana: Ancestors of the Future* (48 mins, dir. Tom Murray, Australia) — a 360-degree voyage to Mangaia, the most southerly and remote atoll of the Cook Islands, sailing a recreated ocean-going canoe with Pwo master navigator Peia Patai — one of only ten masters of traditional star-and-swell navigation. Along the way it explores the Polynesian practice of Ra'ui: taking only what's needed so the ecology survives for the future. They have made regular appearances on Rove Live, 9am with David & Kim , Spicks and Specks, The Glass House, Thank God You're Here, The Project, & Good News Week We have a VIP Guest list under "MEET UP" with our own private tables this is where we will meet. We can meet for dinner before hand at 7pm or just for drinks at 7.30pm just before the show. Friends and family are also welcome to put their hand up for tickets. Plenty of parking. Tickets are $5 (Normally $15) pay at the door on arrival.

Hello, This event will be updated with details of the actual film on the Tuesday or Wednesday prior to the event, after Cinema Nova have published their movie schedule. We typically choose a film that starts between 6:30pm and 7:30pm so that we're not all yawning in the bar afterwards. Please read on if you have any questions about tickets, where to sit and where to meet before and after the film. Stay tuned! **--=>+ Meeting Spot +<=--** Outside the clothing store Black Orange. It is inside Lygon Court next to Brunettis. Join the group at the meeting spot 10 minutes before the start time or see us in the cinema, or the bar afterwards. **--=>+ The Film +<=--** TBC on the prior Tuesday or Wednesday after Cinema Nova have published their movie schedule. **--=>+ Tickets +<=--** Everyone will need to buy their own ticket online and in advance. If you want to sit with other group members, there's a tendency for us to pick seats in the back two rows. Those who feel comfortable can catch up in Nova's bar afterward. **--=>+ Afterwards+<=--** We meet in Nova's bar after the movie. Look for us in the area to the left as you go down the steps. Share your thoughts about the film with the group over a drink of your choice. If the bar is closed we typically head across the road to the Wolf's Lair which is out the back of Jimmy Watson's.

Rain or shine, our community has gathered every week for the past year, maintaining a consistent and welcoming environment. Our group has grown remarkably, with a **weekly turnout of over 50 participants**, blending newcomers with regulars to create a vibrant, diverse community. Feel free to bring friends interested in filmmaking; it’s a great way to introduce new faces to our expanding network. Whether you’re a writer, actor, animator, or independent filmmaker, come share your experiences, discuss current projects, or chat about favorite films. At **7 PM**, we move to The Carlton Club, a five-minute walk away, where we continue networking in a more formal rooftop setting over drinks and food.
