Refugee Chef Dinner Banquet

Refugee Chef Dinner Banquet

Wed, May 6, 8:30 AM
From Switched On Sydney Socials by Local Sauce (all ages welcome)
4.7

**Enjoy a delicious dinner banquet with a different cuisine each time and support refugees!** CURRENT CONFIRMED ATTENDEES (incl. outside Meetup): 4 Join a small group and enjoy a tasty three course banquet at bohemian cafe Parliament on King. You’ll sample food from the homelands of asylum seekers and refugees (think Burmese/Rohingya, Iraqi, Iranian, Palestinean, Nepali, Sri Lankan, Ugandan and more). Each dinner banquet has a different chef and menu, and we often keep it a surprise until the night. Your hosts will invite the chefs to share their stories, and you’re more than welcome to ask them questions about the food they’ve prepared and their stories of how they have come to Australia. The dinner is hosted in the cosy front room of Parliament on King. Parliament on King’s mission is simple: to make lovely food. But in doing this they address the barriers to economic, social and cultural participation asylum seekers, refugees and recent arrivals to Australia face, by providing real work, training and community. All proceeds from this event go towards funding Parliament on King’s important work. **What we provide:** * 3-course meal (dependent on the menu) * Exclusive use of an intimate venue * Licensed venue with a range of alcohol and drinks available for purchase * Photos and further resources will be shared after the experience **Price:** $80 Check out photos of previous Refugee Chef Dinners and our other activities on Instagram at [@localsaucetours](http://localsaucetours/) [See reviews from past dinners on our website.](https://localsaucetours.com.au/tour/refugee-chef-dinner-banquet/) **Please note:** Register here and also book on our website (https://localsaucetours.com.au/tour/refugee-chef-dinner-banquet/). You must book on our website before attending, we cannot take payment on the night.

Frequently asked questions

To locate documentary screenings in Sydney, use the Meetup platform to explore local film groups. You'll find events that organize screenings regularly, enabling you to join gatherings and discussions around documentaries.

Joining film groups on Meetup is straightforward. Create an account, search for documentary film groups in Sydney, and click to join. You'll receive notifications about upcoming screenings and discussions.

Meetup connects people who share similar interests by facilitating local and online gatherings. Whether it's documentary screenings in Sydney or diverse activities, it's a hub for community building and exploration.

Depending on the hosting group's settings, some screenings might require a ticket or offer free entry. Checking the event details on Meetup before attending ensures you have the correct information.

Yes, many documentary screenings include discussion sessions afterward. It's an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas and insights with fellow attendees, deepening your understanding of the film.

RSVPing for a documentary screening is easy. Once you've joined a group on Meetup, you can click the RSVP button on event pages to confirm your attendance and stay informed about any changes.

While not guaranteed, some screenings attract local filmmakers, especially those showcasing Sydney-based initiatives. Engaging in post-screening discussions increases your chance to connect with industry insiders.

Meetup does its best to help you find fitting groups, but it can't guarantee groups for every niche interest or city location, including specific documentary themes in Sydney.

Yes, some groups also offer virtual components or entirely online film discussions. This flexibility allows broader participation, appealing to those who prefer or have to join remotely.

Of course! While joining multiple events could enrich your experience, attending a single screening and discussion can still be fulfilling. RSVP for individual events that pique your interest.

Yes, documentary screenings in Meetup groups cater to all experience levels. Whether you're a hardcore film buff or just interested in documentaries occasionally, there's something for everyone.

Topics range widely, ensuring varied content—from socio-political documentaries to environmental films. Each screening event will usually specify the film, so you know what to expect before attending.

While Sydney offers a vibrant Meetup scene, the availability of events still depends on local group activity. Large cities typically have more active scenes, with more frequent documentary sittings.

Not always. Comprehensive event details will indicate film subtitling, ensuring you can enjoy the screening fully if it involves non-English dialogues—important for truly diverse stories.

Meetup excels in fostering group activities but isn't focused on making one-on-one connections. Group settings cultivate shared experiences through documentary screening and discussions.
