Greenups Spring. In The Garden

For the Spring event we’re doing green drinks old-school style. Join us, [Greenups](https://greenups.au/), [Regen Sydney](https://www.regen.sydney/) and the [Pocket City Farms](https://www.pocketcityfarms.com.au/) crews, in the garden (the beer garden & the veggie patch), with the sun on our backs, dirt under the nails, beer in hand, for some casual, low-key, easy 'spring in the air' vibes. Spring is the time to prepare the soil, plant seeds, and tend to the young crops. So let’s get outside, reconnect, tend, nurture ourselves, find strength, and just have some fun! **Why** A lot of people in the broader Greenups community have had their shoulder to the wheel for years now - working on climate, nature, cities, food, energy and systems change - many, now experts in their fields. And a common refrain lately: “It’s hard.”... Frankly, many of the things we’ve fought for are not going the way we’d hoped, and we're all feeling the pressure. ...so it's often followed by “I’m exhausted.” So spring feels like a good moment as any to call a small time-out, to stop and smell the natives. **What to expect** In the spirit of the early Greenups: let’s just turn up, meet some good people, have a drink, swap ideas and see what grows. Old faces, new connections, good music, tasty food, feet on the ground, fun in the sun. Zero “sage on a stage” vibes. Daylight saving will have just started. It’s the last week of the school holidays. It's a kid-friendly venue, and kids eat free at Camperdown Commons on Wednesdays! \* **Who** Pocket City Farms will show us around the farm, including a garden tour, and bring us up to date on their journey so far, and where to next. We’re inviting some of our Regen Sydney and Community Garden friends along too, with hopefully another special guest to announce soon. \* No, this not only for families, not at all. This will be a regular Greenups for grownups, but at a venue that is well suited to kids. So if you want to bring your 'young crops', please do!

Back by popular demand.... our Auburn Food Walking Tour ! There are so many amazing foodie neighbourhoods in Sydney and we love exploring them! The Auburn Food scene is a foodie haven for many delicious savoury and sweet treats. We're going to be hitting up and tasting treats from several delicious street food spots. If you're curious about trying out a range of Middle Eastern, Somalian, Turkish, Indian foods and more, this is a great way to try them out in a safe and supportive space. Some of the foods we might be covering : * Turkish bread Acma (image that a croissant and bagel had a baby!) * Somalian halawa dessert (very different from Indian and Middle Eastern halawa) - if available * Afghan freshly baked bread * Nepalese Momos * Indian Pani Puri - if available * Chinese Pork Baozi * Turkish Grilled Olives & Bastirma cured beef * Lebanese sausages * Middle eastern saffron ice cream * Turkish Coffee & Baklava house with my fave turkish dessert kazan dibi * As many of the possible options we can cover based on people's preferences on the day (so let me know if there's something you def want to try)... you will run out of appetite before we run out of food options! Plus we'll point out a range of other tasty spots along the way if you're keen to come back another day or still hungry. Definitely bring an appetite - There's a ton of delicious food to try! Meeting Location : By the opal machines at the exit of the Auburn train station (everything is nearby) Meeting Time : Meet at 11:30am, we depart after a few intros at 11:40am Cost : Tour is no cost. You only pay for whatever you eat. We usually take turns of sharing costs of certain dishes so we can all try even more foods. Plus many of our Sydney Kitchen Catchup members tell me when we get together, they always find that it's so great to have a space where they can chat with like-minded kitchen enthusiasts about food, cooking and/or baking for a few hours. And regardless of whether you're just starting out or are a professional chef, there is always something interesting to learn from the breadth of experience across this amazing group of people. Let us know if you have any allergies or food preferences and we'll do our best to keep that in mind for the tour.
