Yes, we're meeting in person at this location. This Whole Foods is located at 63 Madison Avenue on 28 Street in midtown Manhattan. The 6, N and R trains stop at nearby 28 Street stations, A short walk to get there. Check mta.info for weekend changes in service, like rerouting of trains, We'll be upstairs where the tables are. Make a purchase downstairs and be prepared to show your receipt to the guard. No outside food or drinks. There's an escalator and elevator in the store. We will be playing Scrabble and Boggle. If you have a Scrabble set, you can bring it. Attendance is limited. If you have to cancel, change your RSVP so someone on the waiting list can join us. Clues, Spells, and Curses! Join dozens as they set out onto the streets of the Financial District; the site of graveyards, hauntings and some of the grizzliest deeds ever done! It will be a fun way to explore and socialize. We'll set you up on teams and give you everything you need to know to help find the clues. **How does it work?** If you come alone we will set you up on a team (or you can play with a team) and we'll give you everything you need to know to help find the clues. Each team will have 90 minutes to find as many of the clues we give you. When finished we will return to a set location for socializing. Prizes are awarded to those finding the most clues. **What are we looking for?** Lower Manhattan in the early 1600's till now has been the site of hangings, hauntings, massacres, explosions, and other not so nice and creepy things. **Description:** We all like to believe that we look at the evidence and then form our opinions. But very often, our minds work in the opposite direction: we form a belief and then become remarkably good at finding evidence that supports it. Join the **Free Thinker Institute** for an interactive discussion about the psychology of **confirmation bias**—what it is, why virtually everyone experiences it, how it can distort our judgment and decision-making, and, most importantly, what we can do to overcome it. We'll explore why intelligent, well-intentioned people can look at the same information and reach completely different conclusions, why being smart doesn't necessarily protect us from our own biases, and practical techniques we can use to become more open-minded, intellectually honest, and accurate thinkers. If time permits, we'll also explore some of the many ways people can be persuaded to believe things that aren't true—from repetition and emotional appeals to social pressure, misleading statistics, selective evidence, and other techniques.
