Note schedule can be altered depending on everyone’s needs etc. and is suitable for all levels of photographic skills. This workshop is suitable for all skill levels in photography but essential to understand your camera controls. This workshop is not suitable for absolute beginners.

SSP: BIRD PHOTOGRAPHY: BIRD HIDE HOMEBUSH BAY

After a recent trip to the Bird Hide at Homebush Bay, I thought a morning photo session may heed better results. Birds are generally more active in the early morning hours and the light at this location would be ideal for photography. I would recommend a telephoto lens of 300mm or more to achieve better results. The meetup point is the bird hide at 7.30 am and parking is available near the Archery car park. It is a short walk from there to the bird hide. Please read the parking restrictions and make your own decision regarding that. Coffee and morning tea location after the event to be decided by the participants on the day.

October Meetup for the Sydney Nature Journal Club

Come along to our **October meetup for the Sydney Nature Journal Club**. This is a chance to connect, spend some time in nature and journal together. I will offer some guidance to start. After we can share journal pages and ideas. **What to bring:** Bring along sketchbooks/paper and your favourite drawing materials (pens, pencils, watercolour, acrylic, anything you have). I will have extra materials on the day if you want to explore other mediums. \*\*Where:\*\* TBC **Cost:** Suggested donation is $10 annual fee, $5 casual fee. (This helps cover Meetup fees). Easy: Mainly flat, suburban, loads of get out points, up to 14kms.
Easy-Medium: some stairs, a few uneven surfaces, up to 15kms.
Medium: Stairs, rocks, coastal beaches/sand, ups, downs, get out points limited, up to 17kms
Medium-Hard: uneven surfaces, need to take extreme care and be hike fit. Few get out points. Tracks, uneven surfaces, steep inclinations and limited resources. 🌸👯‍♀️🌸 WALKING GUIDELINES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 🌸✍️🌸 Carry sufficient food and water (2 litres) for the expected conditions of the walk. Pls don’t separate from the group, unless you let someone know, preferably me. The waitlist is completely discretionary….reliable regulars will ALWAYS be included. 🆗……….If you are a no show, you will not be welcome to join a future walk with me. (It’s a courtesy kind of thing). If people are on the waitlist, it is also very inconsiderate. 🔭 Sydney Observatory: Stars, Planets & Beyond

Coast, History and Lookouts! Little Manly, Sydney’s Q Station and North Head.

**Most of us have done the Taronga Zoo to Manly Walk or some version of it, right? How about a walk just as good, but different?** **We will meet at Circular Quay Wharf 3 in time to catch the 9.30am ferry. If you prefer to go straight to Manly, please be outside Max Brenner at Manly Wharf no later than 10am (ferry arrives at 9.52am). Please be on time.** **From here we will walk along the coast to Little Manly Cove and then make our way to North Head in the Sydney Harbour National Park.** **Part of this walk is along a 6-foot stone wall built to segregate the military area (no longer under military control) from the rest of the peninsula. This can get muddy so wear appropriate shoes.** **Then we will make our way to Sydney’s Q Station where people were quarantined. We will visit the Third Class Precinct, Hospital Precinct and Wharf Precinct where we will have a break and visit the small museum (there is a beach here for those that want to take a dip).** **We will then climb 250 steps to reach the Former First Class Precinct and wonder around before heading out.** **Although there are no guarantees, there is very little chance of being infected by anything serious (so they told me).** **From here, we will head to the North Fort Precinct along the Sanctuary Loop, a walking track that points out all the wildflowers along the way, and we will do the Fairfax Walk where we will spend time at the Burragula and Yiningma Lookouts, with glorious views of South Head and the city skyline. ⚠️ FOR YOUR SAFETY & ENJOYMENT, PLEASE READ BELOW DESCRIPTION FULLY BEFORE YOU CLICK ‘Attend’! ******************************************** 🗓 DATE: Sunday, 25 October 2026. ⏰ MEETING TIME: 10.10am. ⛴️ START POINT: Watsons Bay Wharf - at the entry/exit after tap on/off. 🚌 END POINT: Bondi Beach bus stop, Campbell Parade. ******************************************** 🥾 DISTANCE: 12km - point to point. 🥾 GRADE: Easy/Moderate on a relaxing pace, not snail pace! 📸 WHAT TO EXPECT: 🚶‍♂️This beautiful coastal walk meanders through beautiful parklands and open spaces and includes an exciting timber walkway with viewing platforms that brings you on top of the cliffs. 🚶The Bondi to Watsons Bay walk (or Watsons Bay to Bondi walk) is essentially the same as the Federation Cliff Walk, but it goes a little further, to Bondi Beach. 🚶‍♂️We will start the exciting adventure from Watsons Bay Wharf to Hornby Lighthouse via Camp Cove Beach for our first photo stop and selfies. 🚶‍♂️We will continue the walk to The Gap, located on the eastern side of Watsons Bay and is one of Sydney’s most famous ocean cliff lookouts with views that are absolutely breathtaking. 👀 From The Gap, we follow the cliff-side path towards the south through Gap Park, leading up to Old South Head Road. The track stays on the road’s footpath for a short while until turning into the Coastal Cliff Walk. 🥪 We will have BYO lunch break at Macquarie Lighthouse overlooking the ocean. 🏙️ We will continue to Diamond Bay Reserve through Dover Heights Reserve. **WHY WALK?** 1\. Why this walk? Surrounding Seaforth are wilderness areas\, amazing and beautiful\. 2\. "Spring" into action\! Live the walking dream\. After our lunch break\, extremely exciting\! 3\. Healthy\, makes you happy\, feel good feeling\, boost your life\, live longer guaranteed\. **Walking New Sections:** Tracks-Rapids-Pathways-Bush-Walkways. Bush Hiking Trails, yes, solid part of walk, 13km Come live it up, let's go! Manly-Seaforth. Different way back to Manly Vale. **Manly Wharf** start at "Nautilus Shell Sculpture" sneaking past **Gilbert Park**, traversing around Manly Oval at **Ivanhoe Park** then zig-zagging deep into the back streets near Andrew "Boy" Charlton Aquatic Centre. **Hey!** Let's enjoy the wide path alongside Manly Golf Club heading towards Balgowlah reaching **Roseberry Street Cafe.** 3 minute quick break, rehydrate, munch an apple, grab a snack from your backpack. Keep socialising, enjoy chatting! **Next:** Up the path to **Seaforth,** then an eye-opening walk past a colony of bats "worth a pic" amazing. Then through a tunnel to the **Seaforth Trail**. The next easy 1.5km bushland section we observe mini rapids, mini waterfalls, like walking through a forest. **After Walking** beside **Burnt Bridge Creek** we hit a narrow section but "not a problem" I promise! **Wakehurst Golf Club**. 25 minutes lunch break (coffee food available or your own stuff) As we relax on the balcony, the view, amazing! **After Half Way Lunch** we hike a solid 1 hour section but needing some stamina but very rewarding and enjoyable, The bush track section meanders up and down next to the **Manly Dam.** **End of the walk:** Manly Vale B1 Bus Stop, only 15 minutes back to Wynyard Station. **Distance:** 13km.
