Evening Bird Walk #3 in Hahamongna

Evening Bird Walk #3 in Hahamongna

Thu, May 28, 1:00 AM
From Sierra Club Pasadena Group - Hikes and More!
4.8

Spring is here, and the foothills are alive with the sights and sounds of local and migratory birds. Join us for another beautiful spring evening of walking and bird watching in Hahamongna Park, a local hotspot where Acorn Woodpeckers, Red Tailed Hawks, Phainopeplas, Blue Grey Gnatcatchers, Hooded Orioles, Western and Cassin's Kingbirds, Allen's and Anna's Hummingbirds, Yellow Rumped Warblers, and Yellow Warblers may be seen. Due to recent unusually warm weather, we don't know what we'll see this time, but we're curious to find out. We'll walk at a leisurely pace, stopping to listen and see birds along the way, for 2 miles round trip with minimal elevation gain and a few small hill climbs. Because this is a dry arroyo, it is very dusty in places. Please wear comfortable, sturdy hiking shoes or boots that you don't mind getting dirty. **Bring:** sturdy footwear, hydration, snacks, binoculars if you have them, and the **Merlin** birding app pre-loaded on your phone. **Find the Merlin app here:** [https://merlin.allaboutbirds.org/](https://merlin.allaboutbirds.org/) **Dogs:** Very well behaved dogs that are able to stand still and remain quiet are welcome to join us. **Level**: Easy. **Save time at the trailhead!** Fill out the online waiver in advance: https://act.sierraclub.org/events/details?formcampaignid=701Po00001ja0NKIAY **How to find us:** Meet 6 PM in parking area just southeast of the corner of Oak Grove Dr. and Foothill Blvd., La Canada Flintridge 91011. GOOGLE MAPS: https://maps.app.goo.gl/A736GcMEcVdUwahF8 **Questions?** Contact the leaders: \- Suzanne Gagne\, cactusgirl555@gmail\.com \- David Cuddy\, dtcuddy@att\.net **Signup Restrictions**: If you are feeling sick or have any symptoms such as cough, cold, fever, etc., please do not join this outing. **Cancellation policy:** Steady rain cancels. You don't need to be a Sierra Club member to attend this hike -- all are welcome.

Book Club: Other Birds by Sarah Addison Allen

Book Club: Other Birds by Sarah Addison Allen

Sat, May 30, 8:00 PM
From The NovelTea Women's Book Club
5.0

*Other Birds* by Sarah Addison Allen is an enchanting tale filled with magical realism and moments of pure love that won’t let you go. Between the real and the imaginary, there are stories that take flight in the most extraordinary ways. Right off the coast of South Carolina, on Mallow Island, The Dellawisp sits—a stunning old cobblestone building shaped like a horseshoe, and named after the tiny turquoise birds who, alongside its human tenants, inhabit an air of magical secrecy. When Zoey comes to claim her deceased mother’s apartment at the Dellawisp she meets her quirky and secretive neighbors, including a young woman with a past, two estranged middle-aged sisters, and a lonely chef, and three ghosts. The sudden death of one of Zoey's new neighbors sets off a search that leads to the island's famous author and to a long-estranged relative of the sisters. Each of them has a story, and each story has an ending which hasn't yet been written. **We will be meeting at the entrance of The Huntington. One of our members, Julia, is providing us with free guest passes. (THANKS, JULIA!) We have 6 available passes. If you already have a Huntington membership and would like to join us, please contact me and let me know. We will not be attending the tea room this trip but will be visiting their regular cafeteria.** The event fee will secure your reservation and be applied to membership dues, which covers the cost of the website. The event fee is NONREFUNDABLE unless the event is canceled by the organizer. To join the waitlist comment on the event page. If you have RSVPed and can no longer attend, please contact me directly and I will contact the people on the waiting list and then move you to "not going" when I find a replacement. Thank you and happy reading!

LA Kinky Weirdos June Munch - Theme: Rainbow

LA Kinky Weirdos June Munch - Theme: Rainbow

Fri, Jun 12, 2:00 AM
From LA Kinky Weirdos

LA Kinky Weirdos is a munch that started as a Discord server for socially distant kinksters. Since we've been hosting the munch, so much has changed; about the world, and the scene. However, LA Kinky Weirdos is dedicated to holding a space in Los Angeles for diverse kinksters of all shapes, sizes and preferences. If you resonate with our name, you're right at home! We aim to be a community for people looking for community within the BDSM and ENM communities of LA. Over the years, many people have met partners, made friends and formed long term bonds! Munches are all about maintaining connections and forging new ones. This is not a play party and we cannot guarantee that you’ll meet new play partners, but you will certainly meet likeminded individuals and many people have found their partners and friends through this munch. Munches are about reinforcing community and being able to have people you know within the scene that you can turn to for support and understanding. If you're an introverted person, don't worry, you won't be alone! If you're an extroverted person, don't worry, you won't be alone. Dress up, dress down, come as you are! We aim to be a community space for people to be themselves. LA Kinky Weirdos has been hosting its munch in Silverlake for many years now. It's currently hosted at Untamed Spirits, a badass woman-owned, women's sports bar that we've come to love dearly. It's an outdoor venue with great food and great drinks. A venue similarly invested in doing community good. NOTE: Thursday nights they often also do Karaoke, you can find us under the tent in the back of the venue Our Discord server is still live and running, but Ryn is much less involved with it these days. You can join that Discord here: [https://discord.gg/D4TfPjpSuE](https://discord.gg/D4TfPjpSuE) *(Warning, we are a pretty intense Discord* *to verify with, so be prepared for that!)* If you cannot make this event, there's a great ENM social that happens in the same place every last monday of the month! Much of the same crowd!
