Yosemite! MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!!! w/ Valley Floor Activities!! 4 days/3 nights !
Fri, May 22, 9:00 PMWe have done Yosemite before on the group. And each and every time it fills up early with lotos of people with big sadness they can not go. Plain and simple . . . our events have limited size. So when it fill . . . it fills. Yosemite is that amazing and iconic place that everyone loves to go. ***There are Saturday/Sunday planned Easy, Medium and Hard Options.*** We will divide by interest for different hikes. **The "Easy" route:** * Yosemite Falls (the easy walk) * Tunnel View * Glacier Point * Bridal Veil Falls * Mirror Lake * The Meadows * The River * Ahwahnee Hotel **Planned Medium Hike:** * Vernal/Nevada Mist Trail **Planned Difficult Hikes** * Yosemite Falls * 4 Mile Trail * Pohono Trail **To attend this event:** * **RSVP** on this event * **[CLICK HERE for the payment link.](https://www.paypal.com/instantcommerce/checkout/2MT6V38JJTEVJ)**[ ](https://www.paypal.com/instantcommerce/checkout/2MT6V38JJTEVJ) * **[Click Here and fill out our Attendees google form](https://forms.gle/7LktppE3Uqo67XSs5)** (this is also what the carpool info gets built from) **Notes:** * **[You MUST take care of payment to be confirmed to go.](https://www.paypal.com/instantcommerce/checkout/2MT6V38JJTEVJ)** * After payment you will get a confirmation email from Paypal * You do NOT need a paypal account. Click the process as guest, or use any credit or debit card. * If you have a X2 or a Plus One . . . just do the link a 2nd or 3rd time. * You may see LOTS of people RSVP on the event. Many do RSVP and not take care of payment. * Event is limited in size. When filled the payment link will be disabled. * If you not ready to commit yet . . . * **[Click Here and fill out our google "interest" form](https://forms.gle/7LktppE3Uqo67XSs5)** (there is a box for "interested and keep me in the loop") **Includes:** * Site (on private land) for a three day weekend * All Firewood & propane heaters provided. * Flush restrooms (that are clean) * (free)(hot) Showers available * Restaurants and Grocery adjacent * Pool and Jacuzzi available. * Super Civilized Camping. * Perfect for the beginner and first timers. * Many come solo. * Come alone and leave with friends. Come with friends & leave with more friends. **Tell me about food and everything else . . .** The logistics of providing food for every possible diet, as well as food prep issues is just not feasible or safe. AND Due to varied dietary needs and food contact issues, it's better if bring what you like and prep it. **What gear do I need?** The only specialized gear you need is Tent, Sleeping bag, Sleeping Pad (yoga mat). Everything else is household items you already have. **Special note:** this is Tent camping. No RV. No Trailers. No giant campervans. **Can I park my car next to my tent?** Sniffing tires, oil, exhaust and fuel? Yuck!!! You cars will be close. But not on top of us. Cars on one side. Humans on the other. If we overflow our parking area . . . there is an overflow parking area. **Carpools?** * Carpool info goes out ONLY to paid attendees. *(it really sucks to set up a carpool with a person who is not actually going)* * Carpool info ONLY goes out to those who fill out the [ATTENDEES/CARPOOL FORM ](https://forms.gle/7LktppE3Uqo67XSs5) *(this way it is reliable info)* * Carpool info goes out all at once *(not as you sign on)* * Carpool info goes out 1 week before the event. Too early and most carpools fall apart. *It really sucks when your ride canceled at asked for a refund a month ago but did not tell you. Carpools info sent when it is stable of who is attending.* * Carpool in week before makes sense because that's when people can really determine schedule and departure time and availability. **Refunds?** If requested 2 weeks before event start: 100% refund. If requested less than 2 weeks: 100% Full Credit be applied to ANY future event we run. ***Questions?*** [CLICK HERE to send a Direct Message](https://secure.meetup.com/messages/?new_convo=true&member_id=273063881) OTHER INFO: * *[Carpool info](https://www.meetup.com/MoreToExplore/events/282458970/)* * *[Newbie Camping Advice All things GEAR](https://www.meetup.com/MoreToExplore/events/282543094/)* * *[Newbie Camping Advice All things FOOD](https://www.meetup.com/MoreToExplore/events/282543120/)* * *[General Policies](https://www.meetup.com/MoreToExplore/events/282460572/)* This event is cross-posted to several groups. The number RSVP'd is not accurate. **ONLY Paid attendees are actually going to be attending.** [CLICK HERE](https://www.meetup.com/twofeet/join/) to join in on the other fun events planned. **Notice:** We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, age, disability, gender, gender preference, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, national identity, marital status, familial status, parental status, religion, political beliefs or even for belly button lint. Be sure to take the A line--towards Pomona. Exit at Lincoln/Cypress Station, which is after Chinatown stop. You can ask a Metro ambassador for help.** **•••••••••••••••••••••••••••** **UPDATES AS OF MAY 4- NEW MEETUP TIME IS 11:30am AND Important Updates for “Ride the D line extension” .** **Please read the following:** As I stated earlier, the itinerary was subject to change. Exciting information from a helpful source and from Metro Los Angeles is beginning to trickle out re: the new D line extension. First of all, the TIME CHANGE. The new D line extension service begins at 12:30, so we will NOT start at 9:00 am.** The NEW TIME TO MEET IS 11:30 AM. Meetup location is the same at Lincoln/Cypress Station. **Rides could possibly be free but still waiting on Metro to confirm this. Also, Metro is having festivities and celebrations AND vendors at each station from 12:30-4:00 pm, so I’m going to revise my plans a bit so we can partake in this very historical event. Who doesn't like a few freebies?!? Please see the new pictures I posted (from Instagram) for more details. *(Thank you David for the intel)*. I realize this may affect your schedules since now the event starts at 11:30 and will end later in the afternoon. Please update your rsvp if you need to revise your plans. Thank you. Previous write up: Hey urban hikers and explorers! The Metro D line subway extension opens Friday, May 8\*\*(see note). Let’s go ride the D line and explore a few of the surrounding areas. There will be brand new stations at La Brea, Fairfax, and La Cienega. This is a brisk-paced urban hike-not slow. It's moderate + level due to the pace and amount of activity. It is mostly flat route, plus a few stairs to climb UP at the stations (or escalator), at the park, and at the Beverly Center. \*\****NOTE -*** Subject to change - IT'S POSSIBLE THAT THE OPENING DATE AND TIME of the new D line extension could change. If it changes, I’ll post an UPDATE here. Please be sure to check back! **Here’s an *approximate itinerary* of the day trip**: We will meet at the Lincoln/Cypress Metro station\*. They have free parking and they have kiosks where you can buy a TAP card if you don’t have one. \*Depending on where you are coming from, Lincoln may not work for you. If that’s the case, meet us at Union Station D line platform. We will take the A line and get off at Union Station. Then we will board the D line to the new stations. Here are the new D line stops and what we will be exploring: 1st station: La Brea - We will get off the train here and begin a brisk paced walk down La Brea to Pan Pacific Park. This portion of the walk is appx 1.5 miles one way, and 35 minutes one way. From the park, we will then walk through the Grove and Farmers’ Market. From there, we will walk down Fairfax back to the next station. Appx 2 hours of exploring, plus or including a quick restroom break and quick snack break at Farmer’s Market. Also time for gawking at whatever catches our eyes. 2nd station: Fairfax - Before boarding here, we will walk briefly around the La Brea tar pits (appx 15-20 mins) and then take the Metro D line to La Cienega Station. If you don’t want to walk around, you can wait for us at the station. 3rd station: La Cienega - quick walk along restaurant row to Beverly Center. This walk is roughly 15 minutes one way and .7 miles one way to the Beverly Center. We will go inside the Beverly Center and climb stairs and ride their fancy scenic escalator. If you don’t want to climb stairs, I’ll find a spot where you can wait and relax. This trip will take appx 1 hour plus restroom break and also time for gawking at things worth gawking. \*\*RETURN :** After the Beverly center we head back to La Cienega to the D line station and return to Union Station to switch trains back to Lincoln/Cypress. Whew! **Option: \*\*If there is time, we can also walk around Olvera Street. Total walking times are approximate. Total trip time is approximate. In other words, everything is approximate. There will be a few stops to regroup along the way and some waiting involved due to train schedules, street crossings, intersections, waiting at traffic lights, and so on. There will also be some gawking, especially if there are doggies, but I'll try to control myself. My goal is to keep the trip within the posted time and daylight hours. I’m estimating 7-8ish miles of footwork, and 5-6ish hours for the event. Something like that. **Note**: There is no “sweep” *(someone who stays in the back to wait for folks)* so please keep up and stay with the group. This is a brisk pace hike. I try to walk ahead of the group to guide everyone along the route. If you are faster, wait for me at intersections. If you are slower, don’t stay far behind or you will get separated from the group. At intersections, we wait for the light to change and look around before crossing. If there is no light, we wait for traffic to clear and cross when it is safe. Do NOT walk into traffic and stop cars. **COST $$**:\*\* *If my math is mathing, the most we will pay for our entire fare is 5.00!!*\*\* Base Metro fare is 1.75 for a one-way trip which includes free transfers for 2 hours. Fare caps at $5.00 in a day, and after that all subsequent rides are free that day. Yeayy!! **BRING**: Money for train fare, snacks, TAP card or TAP app or Apple Wallet, ID card, credit card, cash (singles $$ preferred for quick purchases), water and snacks, lunch if you want.\*\* It is not necessary to pack heavy \*\*since we will be exploring in the city where there are opportunities to get water and snacks such as the park and Farmers' Market. Wear comfortable exercise clothes, workout shoes with good grip and tread, phone with GPS in case u want to leave early, bug repellant? **LENGTH**: appx 7-8ish miles of footwork and appx 5-6ish hours. **BREAKS/LUNCH**: We will have an opportunity to sit and have a quick snack break or coffee break or quick lunch at Farmers' Market since not everyone is on the same eating schedule and some people are fasting or on diets. **MEETUP SPOT**: Lincoln/Cypress Metro Station, 370 W Avenue 26, Los Angeles, CA 90065. This station is outdoors with outdoor parking lot. Meet next to the kiosks at the bottom of the stairs by the parking lots. Or meet us at Union Station D line platform if that is your preference. *MEETUP TIME: **9:00 am sharp**. We will have quick introductions and* leave promptly at 9:05\*\* to go upstairs and wait for the A train. If you need a TAP card, arrive at 8:45 and purchase one at the kiosk. I'll be there early in case you need help. If you need extra time, arrive extra early. **PARKING: **Free lot at the Lincoln metro station **WATER**: along the way **RESTROOMS: **None at the start. The first restroom break will be at Union Station -if they have any. If not, maybe Trader Joe's on La Brea, and at Pan Pacific Park. **LIABILITY**: The organizer is an uncompensated and untrained volunteer. By joining this event each member accepts full responsibility for knowing their limits, for all injuries, health issues, material losses, assessing all risks and for getting lost. Each member shall make their guests aware of these policies and releases the host from all liability.

Pop Up Friday Night Hike at Griffith Park
Sat, May 9, 1:30 AM**The hike will be about 2 hours and will be about 4 to 5 miles is a FAST-PACED hike, we go different routes (fire road or up single-track).** **To judge the difficulty of this hike; you should expect to go up a steep (25% grade) hill for 10 to 15 minutes at your own maximum hiking speed\* before you get a short break and then do it again. We will typically ascend 900' to 1100' (HogBack to Mt. Hollywood, Mt. Lee, Taco, etc.).** **\*to the point that you are panting hard.** **Another way to describe the difficulty; on this hike we go up STEEP and VERY STEEP hills, but we go at the speed of the slowest hiker as long as that slowest hiker is pushing very hard (panting, sweating). i.e., there is tolerance for a slower hiker that is pushing hard. If a slower hiker is taking it easy, then they will be asked to go back to the parking lot and join a different hike.** **Bring WATER, hiking shoes, hiking poles and a long sleeve shirt if you get chilly. You can bring flash lights but please only the red or green; white light diminishes night vision. Arrive 10 to 15 earlier, we leave exactly on time. If you cannot make it, please update your RSVP.** **How to get there take the Los Feliz/Crystal Springs entrance to the park just off the I-5 freeway. Go North on Crystal Springs into the park. At the second stop sign you'll come to a four way intersection. The ranger station should be on your right. Make a left at that intersection, go up the road a little bit, and you'll be forced to turn right into merry-go-round lot #1. Just drive through lot #1 and down the road a little ways and you'll be in lot #2. We meet in the north end of parking lot 2 by the steps.** **Please be aware that Assistant Organizers, Event Hosts, and support hikers are volunteers and organize hikes without compensation and assume absolutely no responsibility for you or your guests. By signing up for a hike, or any other event organized by this group, you are acknowledging that you are aware and have made your guests aware of the risks, dangers, and hazards associated with any outdoor activity, and you accept, and fully assume all such risks, dangers, and hazards, and further agree to release, and discharge the Organizer, Assistant Organizers, and Event Hosts of Los Angeles Hiking & Fitness Meetup Group from, and against any, and all liability arising from your and your guest's participation in the group activities. Griffith Park Hike to Vista View Point- Moderate
Wed, May 13, 1:30 AMWe will take a 4.5 mile/1200ft elevation gain hike to Vista View Point. We will take the back way to the View Point. Lower Beacon Trail to the Coolidge Trail and then to the Upper Beacon Trail. We will come back on the Fern Canyon Trail. This hike is will take approximately 120 minutes. This is a moderate hike with a sweep. we are not trying to break any land-speed records. but you should know your limitations. **NO ANIMALS ALLOWED ON HIKE** We do leave ON TIME, no matter how much traffic is on the freeways, inside the park, including if our parking lots are being used by movie crews. Allow yourself enough time for any unexpected surprises. Where to meet: If you know the park well, it is Merry Go Round Lot #2, just by the first entrance to Lot #2. WE DO NOT MEET BY THE STEPS - IF YOU ARE AT THE STEPS YOU ARE IN THE WRONG SPOT. Put these coordinates in google maps to locate the spot where we meet: 34.133525,-118.284731 The fine print: Wildlife (snakes, bobcats, mountain lions etc) seen in the park, be aware of your surroundings and stay alert at all times. Legend for hikes: These hikes run year 'round every Tuesday. In the leader's (subjective) mind, the hikes are generally easiest the first Tuesday of the month and most challenging the last Tuesday of the month, with everything progressive in between. Beginners are encouraged to come to the first Tuesday of the month. Beginners will receive doses of encouragement the second Tuesday of the month to keep up if unable. The 3-4-5 Tuesday's of the month it is expected anyone that can't keep up with the leader will turn back. Bring Along: Hiking boots and at least 1 Liter Water. Layered clothing in case it's cold. Long pants in case it's hot, to prevent being bitten by insects. Mosquito and tick spray (available at Sports Chalet) are recommended. No bright (white) flashlights please. Red, Blue flashlights are ok. If you get to the lot after we meet, Sierra Club hikes start at 7:00PM on the opposite end of the lot. From 134 Freeway: (Note, if you are not familiar with Griffith Park Drive, this is a dark single lane route. You are better off taking I5 directions) Exit Forest Lawn. (If coming from Westbound go straight, from Eastbound, Go Right). Make a left on Zoo Drive. Make a right hand turn on Griffith Park Drive. Road weaves through Griffith Park. Continue on road until you hit Crystal Springs Road. Make a right hand turn on Crystal Springs. There's no street sign at the next stop sign. Look for the sign in the median stating "Merry-Go-Round Parking" with an arrow, follow the arrow. Continue up the road. The road forces you to make a sharp right hand turn into a parking lot, this is Lot 1. Go through the parking lot. You'll hit a small road (there are no lights on this road so it will be dark if it is not daylight savings time) which will take you to Parking Lot 2. This is the parking lot where we meet. We meet next to the driveway that takes you down to parking Lot 3. From Interstate 5 (either direction) Go West on Los Feliz. Make a right on Riverside drive into Griffith Park. Go two stop signs and make a left turn. Continue up the road. The road forces you to make a sharp right hand turn into a parking lot. Go through the parking lot. You'll hit a small dark road (it's lit if it's daylight savings time) for a short period of time, followed by a brightly lit lot. Park in the back of the lot (the part you entered in). Meet at the back of the lot, at the top of the driveway that takes you to the lower lot. It's near to the "No Practice Driving Allowed" sign. Where to meet: If you know the park well, it is Merry Go Round Lot #2, just at the path to the lower lot. WE DO NOT MEET BY THE STAIRCASE - IF YOU ARE AT THE STAIRCASE YOU ARE IN THE WRONG SPOT. Put these coordinates in google maps to locate the spot where we meet: 34.133525,-118.284731
