We will do a little bit of everything, and try to keep hiking to a minimum. Knowledge of plants and their many uses is a critical skill that relates to every other skill. You will learn how to identify key plants, and how to use them for food, medicine, fire-making, cordage, and more. Fire-making is an essential survival skill, and you should always have a few ways to make fire. On this class, you will practice primitive fire-making, as well as cooking, and water purification. Along the way, you will learn about emergency shelters, how to make cordage, and more. A great day to get into the mountains with like-minded people. Location details sent upon registration. # FORAGING WALKABOUT: WILD FOOD & USEFUL PLANTS, with Focus on FIRE and WEAVING plants May 30 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm $45.00 – $65.00 To attend and for exact location, register HERE We will explore a watershed area, seeing native and introduced plants. Our focus today will be to learn about those plants that are used for food, making fire, and weaving. You will learn about various edible plants, and medicinal plants. And while we might collect some greens used to make soup, we want you to see the plants that will be used to make primitive fire. And if you’re interested in basketry, you will see the traditional plants used for cordage and weaving. On our walk, you will learn how to identify these plants, and learn how to properly harvest. Join us for an insightful walk into a wild area, and learn about useful plants. Back at the tables, we will show how to make the parts of a fire kit, and you will get a chance to try it yourself. And we will also demonstrate simple basketry techniques as well.

These tufa spires rise up to 140 feet from the dry lakebed. The landscape is so out of the world, the original Planet of the Apes was filmed here.** **Dispersed camping is allowed anywhere in this area.** **Hike and explore the pinnacles.** **Or, do absolutely nothing and just chillax at camp and enjoy the lunar-like landscape.** **THIS IS PRIMITIVE CAMPING** **The area is very exposed with no shade so bring shade material, tarp, or canopy.** **Make sure you bring plenty of water with you.** **Also, please bring some firewood if you have room in your vehicle.** **..** **>>>>WHERE DO WE MEET?<<<<** **We’ll meet at the dirt road entrance located at the intersection of Trona Rd (178) and Pinnacle Rd at 11am. Memorial Day Weekend Rafting the North Umpqua!

**Get out on the North Umpqua River with us over Memorial Day Weekend!** Spend **two days rafting** and **either two or three nights camping riverside** on the "Emerald Jewel," a gorgeous stretch of river in southern Oregon. This is as low of a cost multi day rafting trip we can offer. To do this, we will ask you to bring your own camping gear: Tent, sleeping bag, and part of a dinner or breakfast for community style meals. You can also rent all that stuff and pitch in extra for meals if you prefer. We will max it at 12 people, and this event is posted multiple places. We cover: * **Rafting gear + professional guides** * **Camping equipment & meals** * **Shuttle** * **Evening fire circle & chill time** **What You'll Need** * **Warm layers, clothes** * Toiletries (tooth brush and stuff. We'll bring the TP) * A love for getting outdoors **You’ll be fully outfitted** for the rafting portion with wetsuits, splash jackets, and safety gear. **Dry suit rentals (optional) additional charges.** It is early season and the water is cold (and wet), so a dry suit is preferable for those who get cold easily or don't mind spending a little more. **Camping:** We will be staying at a group campground on the side of the river half way through the run. Along this footpath, we will find foods, medicines, and several plants used for weaving and basketry. We’ll learn about the woods that were used for shelter, and fire, and discuss how some of the rocks were used in the past. We’ll also see many of the “invasive” non-native edibles.
