**Distance 12+ miles // Elevation 2,000+ feet** The El Prieto Loop, sometimes referred to as ‘JPL’ because of its proximity to NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, is one of many options for epic riding in the San Gabes. We will climb up Brown Mountain to the saddle, then continue climbing up Brown Mountain to the Ken Burton Trailhead, before descending either Ken Burton or back down to the saddle and taking El Prieto. El Prieto means “The Dark One” in Spanish. The name comes from an early homesteader in 1865 named Robert Owen, an African American, who settled there and became a staple of the developing community. After his death, John and Owen Brown, two brothers and prominent abolitionists who fought for the Union, built a cabin on the adjacent land. Their charisma and love for nature helped to cultivate the mountain community. The peak above El Prieto is named after the Brown boys and Owen’s grave is still visible in El Prieto Canyon. **ADVANCED BLUE** *You have a strong understanding and practice with braking, shifting, cornering, and descending skills. You can navigate variable terrain at a good pace. You are confident and comfortable riding singletrack trails and can easily navigate roots, rocks, mud, sand, and creek crossings. You are capable of a front wheel and rear wheel lift and can put the two together to navigate over obstacles. You are fairly confident on steep climbs and descents, but you may walk sections on Black or Double Black trails.* **[LINK TO RIDE LEVEL CHART FOR MORE DETAILS](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1lK2QCFW94SM-J3m2cUEvDxXYxsdsMSkvypyenjK2oq8/edit?usp=sharing)** **LIABILITY RELEASE & WAIVER** *If you are new to AMTR, please bring a signed and completed waiver to the ride for the ride leader or email it to: AMTR.Meetup@gmail.com. You will be asked to sign a Waiver if you do not have one on file with us. If you refuse to sign, you will not be allowed to join the meetup event.* **[READ, SIGN, AND EMAIL YOUR WAIVER](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1k2G2x-3WT9JSdQDOFoEZrtZmtu8sB_BO/view?usp=sharing)** **BIKING ESSENTIALS** *Please bring your own biking essential needs like tools, pump, hydration pack, chain link, gloves, energy gel/bar, snacks, camera, and most importantly a HELMET. Knee and elbow pads are NOT a must, but are suitable for extra protection.* **DISCLAIMER** *The Organizer, Assistant Organizers, Volunteers, Ride leaders, and Event Organizers in this group are not professional guides. Thu, May 28, 2:00 AM
From Los Angeles Responsible Pit Bull Owners
4.9

Following a warmup around Whitnall Highway Park, we'll walk the pedestrian lane on a section of the Chandler bike path. Expect to maintain tight proximity as we share the road with moderate traffic, including approaching runners, pedestrians, children, strollers, and other dog walkers. Other distractions will include passing fast-moving bikes, scooters, and skateboards in the adjacent bike lanes. **Please read entire description before you RSVP.** **REQUIREMENTS:** Participants must submit a member form and participant release of liability each year. **[Click here to submit one](https://forms.gle/GzcftLq1MyLZpSG87)**. If you don't recall completing one this year, complete one now. **RULES:** ***First rule of our pack walks is to BE SAFE so that everyone has fun!*** All participants must comply to ALL guidelines below or will be asked to leave the event. 1. Participants limited. **RSVP is required to hold a spot.** As soon as you know you cannot attend, cancel your reservation. We understand last-minute changes take place; however, if you don't show up more than two times you will be placed on the wait list for future events. 2. If you feel even slightly ill (including a headache, sniffles, minor fever or even an allergy), do not attend this event. Stay home for your health and safety of others. Remember to cancel your reservation. 3. Maintain a 6 foot distance from other participants not in your household. 4. Face mask/shield is optional. Please maintain a 6' distance from anyone choosing to wear a mask. **MEETING LOCATION:** Gather at the Chandler Blvd. end of Whitnall Highway Park North, where the grass starts just north of the transmission towers. **PARKING:** Residential street parking along Whitnall Hwy and Chandler Blvd. **WHAT TO BRING:** Water for you and your dog. We will do some mental exercises, so bring treats (or your dog’s dinner), or a toy for rewarding them. The path is well lit, but consider bringing lights as the end of our walk will hit twilight hours. **PACK WALK DISTANCE:** About 1.5 miles **TRAIL:** Mix of sidewalk, grass, and paved street. **DIFFICULTY:** Easy **DISTRACTION LEVEL:** Medium - High: There may be periods of high traffic where we will need to share the road with oncoming and passing users of the pedestrian lane. There will also be bikes, scooters, roller skaters, skateboards, etc. passing in close proximity at higher speed, in their own dedicated lane. For nearly all of the route, there is plenty of room to step off the paved path in case you need to create extra buffer space. **LARPBO PACK WALK GUIDELINES:** #1 All dogs must be on a secure collar and leash. Dogs using e-collars must also be on a leash. Prong collars should be backed up with a carabiner. Short leashes are recommended (less than 6 feet). Retractable leashes and harnesses are not allowed as they provide little control. #2 PLEASE NO NOSE TO NOSE CONTACT (dog to dog that is). Always maintain a six-foot distance between dogs. There should be no dog-on-dog interaction. #3 Please bring doggie poo bags. #4 Make sure you bring water for you and your dog. #5 One dog per handler. No exceptions! #6 Share the road. Move to the right to let others pass. *All breeds welcome. - There will be foot traffic, critters, and several other dogs. If your dog tends to be reactive to any of these distractions, please be EXTRA mindful and prepared. *If you have additional questions, please read the full basic LARPBO rules of conduct, located at the bottom of [https://www.larpbo.org/faqs-4](https://www.larpbo.org/faqs-4). **RELEASE AND WAIVER:** In consideration of being allowed to participate in LARPBO events posted on the LARPBO Community Meetup group, you agree that: - You are an adult over the age of 18. *You knowingly and freely assume all risks, both known and unknown, which may arise in connection with your participation in any events, including, but not limited to, injury, illness, property damage including injury to you or your dog, contact with other dogs or spectators at the event, injuries sustained by and through other dogs or participants at the event and assume full responsibility for your participation in the event. - If you feel that you or your dog are unable to safely and comfortably complete the event, you agree to leave. *You hereby release, indemnify, and hold harmless LARPBO Community Meetup group, LARPBO – Los Angeles Responsible Pit Bull Owners, Inc. and all of their respective officers, organizers, and volunteers. - You understand that at this event or related activities, you may be photographed.
