Black Mountain Wilderness Rock Art District Day Trip **high clearance off-road**

Drive 395 will make its second trip to the Black Mountain Wilderness! Located in San Bernardino in the Mojave Desert, the Black Mountain Wilderness Route is known as an easy trail that transitions from a sandy Desert terrain to a rocky mountainous terrain. We will traverse a dry lake bed, visit the Black Canyon and Inscription Canyon petroglyph sites, drive through the Opal Mine site as well as visit the Scouts Cove tuffa cave. onX Offroad has this route listed as Easy with 4 wheel drive being mandatory. Each vehicle should be self-sufficient with proper recovery gear, camping equipment, gps, food and water. As there will be no bathroom facilities in the vicinity, each participant must bring their own bathroom and washroom equipment. Everything we pack in, we will pack out, and we will follow the leave no trace philosophy. I am trying to keep the group limited to 5 rigs just to keep the logistics more manageable. If there is a larger interest, we can revisit the group size. As the date nears, I will post more details and checklists so we can make sure everyone who attends will know what to expect and have a good time! This is a family-friendly trip, and, as such, for the comfort and safety of all in attendance, there will be no firearms allowed, and rowdy behavior or excessive drinking will not be tolerated. Rain will cancel the trip.

Ready to unleash your inner Alex Honnold in a safe way with an AMGA-certified climbing instructor? No experience is necessary and these will be easy routes. You just need a sense of adventure and to be OK with heights. We'll chip in on a professional guide for as low as $125 per person (if there are four of us). The date is open, depending on what works for everyone. Due to no-shows, everyone joins the waiting list and to get off it you need to leave a comment with some good dates for you. **ADDED:** Please note that, as usual, everything is up in the air and open to negotiation (Keith Richards: "I never plan anything, which is probably the difference between Mick and myself. Mick needs to know what he's gonna do tomorrow and I'm just happy to wake up.") So, this could be a full day or a half day. Weekends are much better for me than weekdays, but I could do it on a weekday if that works best. I'm not taking a cut, you'll pay me and then I'll pay the guides. The guides will be in charge of everything, I'll just be along for the ride. (You'll have to take care of tipping the guides yourself, after the event.) Here's a sample price list: https://www.mojaveguides.com/rock-climbing If we shuttle into the park I'll use my pass so you don't need to pay park admission (unless you have a pass of your own, of course). You only need one pass per car, not per person. If you want to practice climbing beforehand that might be a good thing but I don't think it's necessary. Knowing how to tie a figure 8 and other popular knots is always a good thing. Hangar 18 in Arcadia has autobelays and you just clip in. So, you don't need a partner and you don't need to learn any knots, and they have some relatively easy routes. They're primarily a bouldering gym. The Post in Pasadena is 2x+ as high but you'll need a partner who's passed their belay test (they claim they'll offer to match you with someone). I assume they have at least a few easier routes. They have an intro class for $40 (you want the Top Rope one, not Bouldering or Lead).

Frequently asked questions

Meetup connects people through shared interests. Whether you're into camping, hiking, or other activities, it helps people discover and join groups to participate in events and meet new friends locally or online.

Simply search for camping on the Meetup platform while specifying the Los Angeles area. You'll find a list of groups and upcoming events related to camping where you can RSVP to participate.

Yes, Los Angeles has various camping groups. These groups organize events and trips for people who enjoy outdoor adventures, allowing you to easily find fellow enthusiasts to camp with.

Absolutely, you can join as many camping groups as you like. This allows you to expand your network, participate in diverse camping trips, and meet more people who share your passion.

Meetup is free to join and browse groups. Some groups may charge fees for events, particularly if they involve costs like equipment rental or location fees. Always check event details for any costs involved.

No, you don't have to commit to all trips. RSVP only for those you are interested in, allowing you flexibility to fit your schedule and camping preferences. This way, you can enjoy trips at your own pace.

RSVPing is easy; just find your desired event and click to register your attendance. Ensure to read any detailed instructions or necessary equipment lists provided by the event organizer.

Availability of secluded camping trips depends on the group and their planned activities. Some organizers focus on remote locations, while others might choose more accessible camping sites.

Meetup focuses primarily on group activities rather than personal matchmaking. It's about community engagement and finding group events that match your interests rather than forming specific individual connections.

The quality of organization can vary depending on the host. Some events might have professional guides, while others are more casually led. It's wise to check reviews and past event feedback before joining.

Meeting friends depends on active participation and engagement in Meetup events. While the platform can connect you with like-minded individuals, forming friendships relies on your involvement and social interaction.

Certainly! If you can't find a group that meets your camping interests, you can start your own and build a community around your preferred camping style or destinations, attracting like-minded peers.

Sometimes last-minute trips are announced, but it's common for popular events to fill up fast. Regularly checking Meetup for new postings can help you snag those last-minute adventurous opportunities.

While Meetup hosts a variety of groups, not every specific interest might be covered. There's an opportunity to either join existing groups close to your interest or create a new one to meet your needs.
