Hike to Festival of Giant Kites from East Side Gallery

Sat, Sep 12, 8:30 AM
From Exploring with Luisa

Join me this Saturday for a sightseeing hike to Berlin‘s annual Festival of Giant Kites 🪁, a fun open-air spectacle at Tempelhofer Feld! Doesn’t matter if you are new to Berlin or not, this is a great opportunity to make new connections and take pictures while walking by some of Berlin’s highlights before the festival. **Route & Pace** We will hike a 10.4 km route starting from the East Side Gallery. [[This is the route we will follow.]](https://www.komoot.com/tour/3270152225?ref=itd&share_token=aem05VR8X5WObojM0NUEBjV9Xvg8wb2KpM2aTLbbMe3FnOCCsr&ref=its&t_s=referral&t_cid=route_share&t_ref_username=6156612270392) The pace will be steady, with dedicated 2-5 minutes photo stops at the major landmarks and viewpoints along the trail, such as the Molecule Man and Treptower Park. **Meeting point and time** **10:30** AM: We meet outside Ostbahnhof and start the trail. **Highlights covered** * **East Side Gallery: We start by walking by this historic open-air gallery.** * **Osthafen & Elsenbrücke: We will walk south along the Spree for iconic vantage points and photos of the 30-meter-tall Molecule Man sculpture.** * **Treptower Park & Karpfenteich: We will stroll through the park paths.** * **Neukölln Ship Canal & Rathaus Neukölln: We will follow the scenic canal paths into Neukölln and passing by the historic town hall.** * **Tempelhofer Feld (The Festival!): We arrive at the airfield for the main highlight of the day. Grab street food from the stalls or unpack your own picnic while watching gigantic kites (some up to 50 meters long) fill the sky alongside live music and flying demonstrations. You are free to explore or stay as long as you'd like (the festival runs until 8:00 PM).** **Breaks** We will take a 15 min break in the middle of the hike ⚠️ **A Quick Note on Schedules & Independence:** This is a casual community meetup rather than a formal guided tour. Participants are fully responsible for their own expenses, pacing, personal safety, and keeping track of the schedule. Feel free to join, break away, or move at your own pace whenever you like. You can leave or stay longer on your own accord. **Communication** Please use Meetup messages to contact me on the day of the hike. A €3 cash donation per person is collected on-site to cover Meetup subscription fees and support future events 🫶🏼.

From Queer Hiking Berlin
5.0

Hi everyone! 🌿🥾 This time, we’re heading out for a **longer hike around the beautiful Werbellinsee**, north of Berlin. Expect a full day surrounded by nature, walking along forest paths and around the lake — a great chance to leave the city behind, enjoy the fresh air, and spend the day outdoors together. 📍 **Meeting point:** Ostkreuz Station, platform 14, I'll be wearing a pink cap 📅 **Sunday, September 13** ⏰ **Meeting time:** 8:30 am 🚆 **Train departure:** 8:41 am We’ll travel together to Eberswalde, change trains there, and continue to **Joachimsthal Kaiserbahnhof**, arriving at around 9:55 am. 🥾 **The hike:** The route will take approximately **7 hours**. We’ll start and finish in Joachimsthal and spend most of the day walking through the forest and along the lake. This hike is all about **nature, movement, fresh air, and good company** — there won’t be much sightseeing or historical stops along the way (apart from an old tower!). 🧺 **Picnic break:** Around halfway through the hike, we’ll find a nice spot in nature for a relaxed picnic together. I’ll bring a blanket! Please bring enough **food, snacks, and water/drinks** to keep yourself energized and hydrated throughout the day. 👟 **What to bring:** Please wear comfortable, sturdy shoes suitable for a long hike and dress according to the weather. Since we’ll be outdoors for most of the day, come prepared for a proper day in nature. 🚆 **Getting back:** Trains from Joachimsthal back towards Berlin depart at **5:10 pm and 6:11 pm**, so we’ll aim to finish in time for one of these connections. Everyone who feels comfortable with a longer day of walking is very welcome to join. 🌲 Whether you come on your own or with someone else, we’re looking forward to exploring Werbellinsee together and enjoying a beautiful day away from the city! See you on the trail! 🌿

Join us this Saturday at 10:00 for a relaxed ride through Grunewald and along the Havel/Wannsee! 📍 Meeting point: S Grunewald 🕙 Start: 10:00 🚲 Distance: Around 24 km ⏱️ Total time: Around 3 hours, including breaks 🌲 Terrain: A mix of forest paths, gravel, paved sections and some easy trails ☕ Finish: Café somewhere in the area — exact place to be decided! We’ll follow this Komoot route, slightly modified so that we start from S Grunewald: [https://www.komoot.com/smarttour/30608535?ref=atd&t_s=referral&t_cid=route_share](https://www.komoot.com/smarttour/30608535?ref=atd&t_s=referral&t_cid=route_share) This is a relaxed social ride, not a race. We’ll ride together, stop when needed and make sure nobody gets left behind. The route is not technically difficult, but there are quite a few gravel and forest sections, so a gravel bike, MTB, trekking bike or similar bike with suitable tyres is recommended. At the end, we’ll find a café nearby for some coffee, cake and socializing. ☕🍰 Bring some water, a bike in good working condition and preferably a helmet. See you Saturday! 🚲🌲
