We will do a little bit of everything, and try to keep hiking to a minimum. Knowledge of plants and their many uses is a critical skill that relates to every other skill. You will learn how to identify key plants, and how to use them for food, medicine, fire-making, cordage, and more. Fire-making is an essential survival skill, and you should always have a few ways to make fire. On this class, you will practice primitive fire-making, as well as cooking, and water purification. Along the way, you will learn about emergency shelters, how to make cordage, and more. A great day to get into the mountains with like-minded people. Location details sent upon registration. We typically limit the number of jammers to two per instrument except vocals and guitars where 3 is the max. **Additionally - the space is roughly $84 for two hours. We split the cost evenly between all of us. We take Venmo, Zelle, and cash.** Obviously, things happen and it's understandable if you have to miss the jam, but we'd appreciate it if you let us know in advance so you spot can be given to another on the wait list.

LUNCHTIME EXPLORATORY NATURE WALK

To attend and for exact location, register [HERE](https://www.schoolofself-reliance.com/event/lunchtime-exploratory-nature-walk/) We’ll explore the perimeter of this section of the Arroyo Seco and find some of the in-season wild edibles, and medicinal plants, and we’ll view the overall basin. Along this footpath, we will find foods, medicines, and several plants used for weaving and basketry. We’ll learn about the woods that were used for shelter, and fire, and discuss how some of the rocks were used in the past. We’ll also see many of the “invasive” non-native edibles.

LUNCHTIME CLAY WORKSHOP

You will learn the ways to process clay, and we will be doing one of those methods. You will process clay, and attempt to make a useful item from the clay. We won’t do any firing. A great opportunity to get outdoors and learn another survival skills

This is a conversational meeting for both English speakers and Spanish speakers. We'll be conversing in Spanish half of the time, and English for the other half. All levels welcome! We will meet on the second floor of the Farmers Market. After you park in the open parking lot, look for the OLD GAS STATION STAND (yellow and red). It's not too far from the big clock. Go INTO the market area - behind the gas stand, and immediately turn left. There will be stairs to the second floor on your left. If you get lost, ask someone how you can get to the second floor near the Brazilian food stand. PARKING: The outside parking lot is free for ninety minutes if you get your ticket validated by purchasing anything at the Farmer's Market, including The Coffee Bean and World Market. \*If you park in the building near the market, you can NOT get your ticket validated. And don't park in the Whole Foods' lot because you could get towed. \*Parking is free for 90 minutes. It's $3.00 for the first fifteen minutes after that, plus another $1.00 for every 15 minutes afterwards.

Hike: Vasquez Rocks with potluck afterwards (Agua Dulce, Ca)

Alright Meetup people, if you’re into hiking to unusual spots or have never seen these rock formations in person then this hike is for you. Let’s hike around the Vasquez Rocks out in Santa Clarita. I will also upload a couple of photos of this place. After the hike we will have a small potluck, so bring an item to share (this is optional).
