Founding Picnic

Hi! I just started NYC Civic Girlies, and this picnic is the very first event. Welcome! Here's the idea: Civic engagement in this city can feel like a lot to figure out on your own; where do you start, what does being civically engaged mean, which meetings should you attend, where do we find information, etc. I want this group to make it easier to be connected to our community and get involved. I'm imagining us going to community boards and city council meetings together to not make it seem super intimidating, and have peers to go with. I also envision partnering with local nonprofits to help us get plugged into causes we care about such as food access, housing stability, etc. But before any of that, I want to hear from you; what issues you're interested in, what's held us back from getting involved, and what would make this group genuinely useful to you. No experience needed, nothing to prepare. Just come hang out on the Central Park Great Lawn, meet other civic-minded girlies, and help shape what this group becomes! Light charcuterie, snackage, and picnic punch will be provided. And please come wearing cute picnic wear if you can for cutsie vibes lol. Super excited to see you there!

In-Person Trivia Meetup - Sat. Aug. 1

Hey there. Let's have another in-person trivia meetup. Potbelly is at 501 7th Avenue at 37 Street in midtown Manhattan, near Penn Station. We'll be on the 2nd floor. NOTE - you must climb stairs to get to the 2nd floor. There is no elevator, so this place is not handicap accessible . A few things to take note of: Make a purchase. Menu at www.potbelly.com Buying a fountain soda gets you FREE refills. If you RSVP and cannot attend, change your RSVP to NO. Games will be announced as the date gets closer. I may even bring a new game or two (oooh!). See you there.

They like board games; we like board games... it's a match made in heaven! WHAT TYPE OF GAMES ARE PLAYED? All types. Real short bluffing games decorated with skulls and flowers. Cooperative games fighting horrible diseases. Classic euro games where you haggle over sheep and wheat. Whether you want to fight unspeakable horrors in Arkham or build railroads across America or rebuild your farm after the black plague (more fun than it sounds) you can probably find a game you would like. Some games you might see are 7 Wonders, Settlers of Catan, Pandemic, Dominion, Dixit, Puerto Rico, Eldritch Horror, Ticket to Ride, Carcasonne among many others. You're also welcome to bring any game you want to play! I DON'T KNOW THESE GAMES? IS IT COOL IF I COME? We're very friendly and if you have no idea what the hell we're talking about just trust us when we say it's ton of fun. We'll have tons of games and we're very happy to show you the rules. Hudson Loop/Molos

*\- Reservations open July 8 at 10:00am* Let's ride the Hudson Loop - a classic Dana & Oliver ride. This is a 35-mile ride at a medium pace, **for Brompton bicycles only.** Check out photos from previous Hudson Loop rides below! We'll start at the Intrepid, then ride up the Hudson Greenway, and cross the George Washington Bridge. After crossing the bridge we'll ride down the New Jersey side to the Paulus Hook Ferry, where we cross back to Tribeca. Finally, we'll ride back up to the Intrepid to close the loop. There's a late lunch/early dinner stop on the NJ side at Molos, a beautiful Greek restaurant for a delicious lunch on their terrace with gorgeous views of the city. **WHAT TO EXPECT** * The full loop is 35 miles long. * This ride is mostly flat, with a notable climb to the George Washington Bridge. * This ride includes 3 miles of busy city street riding on the NJ side (no bike path, but mostly with a wide shoulder). The rest is beautiful bike path on the river. * Molos ist a wonderful restaurant with gorgeous views of Manhattan and excellent food. That said, it is on the pricier side. Please check their menu in advance and ***do not sign up*** for this ride if you are not ok with the menu.
