Founding Picnic

Founding Picnic

Sun, Aug 9, 8:30 PM
From NYC Civic Girlies

Hi! I just started NYC Civic Girlies, and this picnic is the very first event. Welcome! Here's the idea: Civic engagement in this city can feel like a lot to figure out on your own; where do you start, what does being civically engaged mean, which meetings should you attend, where do we find information, etc. I want this group to make it easier to be connected to our community and get involved. I'm imagining us going to community boards and city council meetings together to not make it seem super intimidating, and have peers to go with. I also envision partnering with local nonprofits to help us get plugged into causes we care about such as food access, housing stability, etc. But before any of that, I want to hear from you; what issues you're interested in, what's held us back from getting involved, and what would make this group genuinely useful to you. No experience needed, nothing to prepare. Just come hang out on the Central Park Great Lawn, meet other civic-minded girlies, and help shape what this group becomes! Light charcuterie, snackage, and picnic punch will be provided. And please come wearing cute picnic wear if you can for cutsie vibes lol. Super excited to see you there!

Manhattan Summer Streets 2026

Manhattan Summer Streets 2026

Sat, Aug 15, 2:30 PM
From Brompton New York
4.9

Let’s participate in Manhattan Summer Streets 2026. Summer Streets is an annual celebration of New York City's most valuable public space – our streets. On select summer Saturdays our city’s usual traffic noise and honking horns will be replaced with open streets teeming with walkers, bikers, runners, and performers. Discover a wealth of free cultural programs, performances, fitness classes, interactive art, giveaways, and much more as you experience the city in this whole new way. We’ll meet at the Maine Monument in the southwest corner of Central Park, opposite Columbus Circle, at 10:30 am. Wheels up at 11 am sharp. We’ll ride the lower part of the park drive up to 72nd Street, exit and head east to Park Avenue, where we’ll pick up the vehicle-free Summer Streets and head south. Our route will take us around Grand Central Terminal and south on Park Avenue, Fourth Avenue and finally Lafayette Street to the Brooklyn Bridge (which we will not ride over). At the bridge we will turn around and retrace the same route back to Columbus Circle, where we can grab a bite in the Turnstyle Underground Market. Criollas has wonderful empanadas and is owned by a Bromptoneer. There are other options as well. https://share.google/oFEBoRmo7ViR1zp8t If you are more adventurous and want to ride north of 72nd Street on Park Avenue (the traffic-free route continues to Dykman Street in Northern Manhattan/Inwood), you will have the option to leave the group at that point. Note: Summer Streets does get crowded and our group will likely separate. With that in mind, we will stop at prearranged points to regather and continue. Here are those pre-arranged points: SOUTHBOUND/DOWNTOWN Park Avenue and 36th Street (northwest corner) Lafayette Street and East 10th Street (northwest corner) Lafayette Street and Chambers Street (northwest corner) NORTHBOUND/UPTOWN Park Avenue and 46th Street (northeast corner) Park Avenue and 71st Street (on 71st between the northbound and southbound lanes of Park Avenue) This is a chill ride with a total distance of approximately 12 miles. It is generally flat, but there is a hill on the way back, on Park Avenue above 50th Street. Here is our ride route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/56383131 More on Summer Streets: https://share.google/4p7Tens9xiie4chJu

From Victory Pints: Board Games and Beer
4.8

WEBSITE (http://www.victorypints.com/) TWITTER (https://twitter.com/victory_pints) FACEBOOK (https://www.facebook.com/victorypints) Every Monday we bring some serious board game madness to Wild East Brewing from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. They like board games; we like board games... it's a match made in heaven! WHAT TYPE OF GAMES ARE PLAYED? All types. Real short bluffing games decorated with skulls and flowers. Cooperative games fighting horrible diseases. Classic euro games where you haggle over sheep and wheat. Whether you want to fight unspeakable horrors in Arkham or build railroads across America or rebuild your farm after the black plague (more fun than it sounds) you can probably find a game you would like. Some games you might see are 7 Wonders, Settlers of Catan, Pandemic, Dominion, Dixit, Puerto Rico, Eldritch Horror, Ticket to Ride, Carcasonne among many others. You're also welcome to bring any game you want to play! I DON'T KNOW THESE GAMES? IS IT COOL IF I COME? We're very friendly and if you have no idea what the hell we're talking about just trust us when we say it's ton of fun. We'll have tons of games and we're very happy to show you the rules. Hang out, haves some drinks, and learn a new game. Questions? Comments? Contact us at info@victorypints.com
