Morning tech and coffee

Thu, May 7, 12:30 PM
From Astoria Tech Meetup
4.8

Hi neighbors! Let's gather together, share ideas, and talk tech. Since a lot of us are in permanent WFH mode, we thought it would be nice to have a reason to leave our apartments in the morning and interact with real live friendly faces in our neighborhood. This is a host-free event with no specific agenda. Let’s meet up and chat in the morning: * What are you working on? * What tech are you learning? * What tech questions do you have? * Would you like some accountability to help you push ahead? * … and more! Be sure to be respectful of our gathering place: purchase a coffee, tip your baristas, keep the place clean, etc. Looking forward to seeing you!!

Join us for a discussion of George Orwell's classic novel, 'Animal Farm'. As you might know, there is an animated adaptation arriving in theaters this May. Thought it would be interesting to chat about the novel and share your thoughts on the movie, if you've seen it. [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B087QTT1WN/](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B087QTT1WN/) We are hosting our discussion at a bakery called 'Ole And Steen', located near Union Square. If you need to get in contact, my number is 917-769-2168.

Book Club at Night! by Leftist-Progressive Night Out!

Sat, May 23, 11:00 PM
From Leftist Progressive Night Out
4.8

Welcome to the **Leftist-Progressive Book Club at Night!** For our next meeting, we'll be discussing the book [Fight Club](https://www.amazon.com/Fight-Club-Novel-Chuck-Palahniuk/dp/0393355942) by Chuck Palahniuk (1996) 30 years ago, Chuck Palahniuk published *Fight Club*, the book that launched his career, coined the term “snowflake,” and wormed its way so deeply into the culture that it’s been embraced as much by Antifa as by the alt-right. But in the intervening years, reality has inched ever closer to the twisted scenarios in Palahniuk’s early work. Themes of rebellion, isolationism, mental illness, capitalism, and masculinity are explored to critique the modern western world order. This is a meeting for anyone interested in this book by Chuck Palahniuk. Read and discuss, or if you haven't read it yet, come hang out with like-minded people and get the cliff-notes! This bookstore has amazing Turkish desserts, coffee/tea/espresso, sandwiches, and other dishes available for purchase. Come hungry for good food and great conversation! **How to find us:** We will have a table in the back, behind the cafe counter. You can tell the cashier at the register you are here for the meetup group, and they will point you in the right direction. The Book Club by Leftist-Progressive Night Out is a space for thoughtful discussions on **leftist and leftist-adjacent books, or any other books that we find interesting.** Whether you’re a longtime reader of progressive literature or you just want to discuss some interesting books, this is the place to engage with great stories, big questions and good company. ☕ **Drinks & snacks available for purchase**
