What we’re about
This is a group for anyone interested in learning about meditation and Buddhism from a secular / scientific perspective.
This is an exploration into the forms of meditation called mindfulness and insight, so following all of our discussions we end each with a short 5 or 10 minute guided group meditation.
The format is an informal discussion around various topics threaded in books on the subject. For example, we just completed a series of chats about meditation and evolutionary psychology using Robert Wright's book "Why Buddhism is True: The Science and Philosophy of Meditation and Enlightenment" .
Who this isn't for: Any Buddhist "purists" or otherwise who think there is only one way meditate or who hold to the more mystical interpretations of Buddhist philosophy and love to argue them.
I'm a seeker and looking for like minded people. I do not claim to be an expert in Buddhism and the philosophy interests me only as it pertains to understanding the nature of consciousness and personal well being.
I want to be more aware and explore the relationship between the mind and happiness.
