A COMMUNITY FOR ARTISTIC AND CREATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY.
Welcome New York to The Art of Photography! Our purpose is to spark creativity, open new doors, incite discussion and learn from each other in a positive and sharing environment. The basis of which is to facilitate the merging of the principles of art and graphic design with excellent camera craft. To take each one of us, no matter what level of experience, to places, levels and worlds that are out of our comfort zone. To grow, to see, to inspire unique visions. Our review/discussion programs, our photo shoots and educational sessions are free. Your submissions for discussion are for you to choose without regard to theme or genre.
The Art of Photography began as a museum art school program in 2002 and has expanded to over 20,000 members worldwide. So many of whom have grown into exceptional photographers that are hugely represented in international award shows. New York, we are truly excited for your participation and look forward to your development as Artistic and Creative Photographers. Be on the lookout for some very exciting photo shoots and presentations that will be posted on an on-going basis. Join Us for the Staten Island Ferry Photo Shoot (Sat, Oct 10, 2026 @ 11:00 am)
Join us for a relaxed photography outing aboard the Staten Island Ferry! We'll photograph the Lower Manhattan skyline, Statue of Liberty, harbor activity, and everyday moments aboard the ferry, with changing perspectives in both directions. All skill levels are welcome, whether you're bringing a camera or a smartphone.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
Technique Focus:
- Capturing movement: Practice faster shutter speeds for sharp shots from the moving ferry.
- Creative composition: Use railings, windows, and the ferry's wake as framing elements and leading lines.
- Changing perspective: Mix wide skyline views with tighter details and layered compositions.
- Visual storytelling: Create a three-photo series that captures your experience of the outing.

Meeting Location/Event Hosts/What to Expect
Your hosts will be Doug and several organizers. We will be wearing our TAOP NYC hats so it will be easy to recognize us.
Itinerary
11:00 am: Meet just inside the street-level main entrance of Whitehall Terminal, 4 Whitehall Street, keeping clear of the doors.
11:30 am: Depart for Staten Island, photographing along the way.
Around 11:55 am: Arrive at St. George, disembark, and regroup for a short photo stop before reboarding.
12:30 pm: Take the return ferry, finishing at Whitehall around 1:00 pm.
Post-Event

PHOTO CHALLENGE
Once this Meetup event ends, we will create an album on the Photos page. Please post up to five (5) of your best photographs from the event before 7 PM (ET) on Sunday, October 18, 2026.
Eligible photos:
- Must be taken on Saturday, October 10th.
- Must be posted before the deadline
- Must have a title
- Must NOT be sexually explicit or suggestive
This album will be reviewed. The winning image will become the permanent album cover of the event. The name of the winning photographer will appear in the album title.
We welcome your participation and look forward to meeting you at 11:00 am.

Instructions to Submit a Photo for a Zoom Session
✅ Go to The Art of Photography International, and click on the relevant Zoom session under Upcoming Events. Then scroll down to find the Welcome screen.
✅ Upload only ONE photo to the Session album AFTER you see the “Welcome …” photo slide (AFTER 5 pm on Sunday and BEFORE the day of the Sat/Sun of the Session).
✅ If you don't see a Welcome screen, you are either on the wrong page or too early to submit for the upcoming session.
✅ You must be attending in order for your image to be reviewed during a session.
✅ A maximum of 30 photographs will be considered for review as time and content allow.
✅ Following the sessions the albums will be deleted after 5 pm on Sunday. If you wish to save your image and comments move your photo to the PHOTOGRAPHERS OPEN FORUM album.
