What we’re about
A COMMUNITY FOR ARTISTIC AND CREATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY.
Welcome New York to The Art of Photography! Our purpose is to spark creativity, open new doors, incite discussion and learn from each other in a positive and sharing environment. The basis of which is to facilitate the merging of the principles of art and graphic design with excellent camera craft. To take each one of us, no matter what level of experience, to places, levels and worlds that are out of our comfort zone. To grow, to see, to inspire unique visions. Our critique programs, our photo shoots and our educational sessions are free. Your submissions for discussion are for you to choose without regard to theme or genre.
The Art of Photography began as a museum art school program in 2002 and has expanded to over 16,000 members worldwide. So many of whom have grown into exceptional photographers that are hugely represented in international award shows. New York, we are truly excited for your participation and look forward to your development as Artistic and Creative Photographers. Be on the lookout for some very exciting photo shoots and presentations that will be posted on an on-going basis. Also join our International Site to check out over 250 albums created by our members. Thank you for your interest and good shooting.

___________________________________________________________________________________ - Join Us on Our Governors Island Photo Shoot (Sat, Sept 13, 2025 @ 11:00 am)Governors Island, Manhattan, NY
Governors Island offers outstanding photography spots, each with distinct perspectives of New York City and its harbor.
This photography challenge invites members to explore and capture the beauty and complexity of their surroundings through three distinct yet interconnected photographic genres: landscape photography, environmental portraits, and architectural details. The goal is to encourage a deeper observation of the environment and hone diverse photographic skills.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES

- Architectural Details
- Key Elements to Consider: Lines, shapes, textures, patterns, shadows, and how light interacts with the structure.
Some Locations to Consider
- Outlook Hill: The island’s highest point provides stunning 360-degree views of Lower Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty, and New York Harbor.
- Historic Forts (Fort Jay & Castle Williams): The classic 19th-century brickwork, cannons, and geometric shapes of these forts create atmospheric settings for architectural and historic photography.
- The Hills (including Discovery Hill): These scenic, landscaped mounds give photographers unusual vantage points of the skyline and waterfront, adding unique layers and depth to photos.
