IF I HAD LEGS I'D KICK YOU @ The Savoy Cinema, 8pm - "Late Late Breakfast"
Hi everyone,
With DIFF currently underway, and some unusual movie times in the schedules, our *usual venues* are not going to suit us this Friday, so I’ve chosen to go to the historic **Savoy Cinema** on O’Connell Street instead. This weekend is the release of another Award-popular movie, particularly for the lead actress, Rose Byrne - If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. So we’ll go to the 8pm screening at the Savoy. It has unreserved seating, so do book early.
**IF I HAD LEGS I’D KICK YOU (113 mins) Screen 4 at 8pm**
[If I Had Legs I'd Kick You | Official Trailer HD | A24](https://youtu.be/ywFDoT7LBbQ?si=KGpuxJAMXbCVzmQ1)
To book - [https://booking.imc.ie/booking/?cinema=savoy&stage=tickets&perf=155527](https://booking.imc.ie/booking/?cinema=savoy&stage=tickets&perf=155527)
*“Rose Byrne gives a performance of blistering intensity in Mary Bronstein’s extraordinary second feature; a white-knuckle ride into the psyche of a woman on the brink of despair. Byrne plays Linda, a psychoanalyst caring for her critically ill daughter who must relocate to a dingy hotel. Her husband (Christian Slater) is away, and she must single-handedly juggle hospital visits with treating her clients, while monitoring repairs to her home. If I Had Legs I’d Kick You is a brave, formally daring, and entirely unforgettable experience.”*
**Dining:** We will then have dinner beforehand in [Bobo’s on Abbey Street](https://maps.app.goo.gl/kFLX3BF9JVUVVVzw5) at 6:30pm. It’s primarily a really good burger place, but they also do nachos, wings, and salads as well. If you wish to join us for dinner, please post a Comment to be included in the numbers as space is limited.
Note that they do not split bills there so it’s CASH ONLY again for this one.

Dublin Independent Movie Lovers: My Father's Shadow & Apocalypse Now
Hi, all Independent Movie Lovers.
You are invited meet at 7 pm, on Friday the 20th of February. This meeting is at the Café on the ground floor of the Light House Cinema, Smithfield Square, Dublin.
We will discuss the film:
**My Father's Shadow** (2025), directed by Akinola Davies. My Father's Shadow is set in 1993, and examines a family's struggles in Lagos.
We will also discuss:
**Apocalypse Now** (1979), directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Several versions are in circulation. It seems the Apple TV and Sky Store are showing the 147 minute cut that was essentially the original theatrical release. I think Coppola's 2019 'Final Cut' is available for rental from YouTube, and this would be the preferred cut for discussion.
We will watch the movies independently, and meet for discussion on Friday the 20th of February, at 7 pm, at the Café on the ground floor of the Light House Cinema, Smithfield Square.
**My Father's Shadow** is showing at some Dublin cinemas, including Cineworld in Parnell St, the Light House Cinema at Smithfield, and the IFI, Eustace St, until Thursday the 12th of February.
**Apocalypse Now**, the 'final cut' is available for online rental on YouTube. Other versions are available for rental from Apple TV and Sky Store.

Improv Workshop
Come join local improv troupe, the ***Home Improv Mints***, as we run through some of the basics of short form improv. Wear clothes you can move around in.
We will start at **7:15**. We will run until just after 9 pm. Bring yourself and a willingness to try new things - like (insert audience suggestion here)!
We try a different topic each session to see if it changes who sees the announcement. There might not be bobwhite imitations, hyena butter, lava floors, trans livestock, thalidomide twinkies or inflatable turnips (all things that HAVE come up), but we can promise something *random*.
But we encourage you to bring cookies. NOM NOM NOM!
We only have so many slots available. **Please don't RSVP as a yes *until* you are certain.** We limit the class size so everyone gets a chance to play, and ask for RSVPs so we know how many outlines to print and cookies to bring.
We understand things change sometimes. Please message us if things change and you can't make it, rather than being a No-Show. Multiple No-shows get you put on the naughty list and may get you ejected from the group. Please don't make us do that.
Please donate - *running* a Meetup group ain't free folks. Suggested Donation is $10/session. And feel free to bring more cookies. Everybody likes cookies.
Hope to see you then!

Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: The Hidden Cleopatra
[Profs and Pints Northern Virginia](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **“The Hidden Cleopatra,”** an excavation through myth and slander to uncover the real Egyptian queen, with Jacquelyn Williamson, an Egyptologist and associate professor of archaeology and ancient art at George Mason University.
[Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://www.ticketleap.events/tickets/profsandpints/hidden-cleopatra](https://www.ticketleap.events/tickets/profsandpints/hidden-cleopatra) .]
Depictions of Cleopatra are abundant in popular culture. A long list of painters have depicted her, Marilyn Monroe and Kim Kardashian have posed as her, and Vivien Leigh and Elizabeth Taylor famously portrayed her in Hollywood films.
At the end of the day, however, what most of us think we know about Cleopatra is wrong, the product of the ancient Rome’s “fake news” and anti-Egypt propaganda.
Learn about the real Cleopatra—and how our understanding of her came to be so distorted—with Professor Jacquelyn Williamson, scholar of women and power in ancient Egypt, teacher of courses on ancient Egyptian art and archaeology, and author of *Nefertiti’s Sun Temple: A New Cult Complex at Tell el-Amarna.*
Dr. Williamson will walk us through how the first Roman emperor, Octavian, created the distorted image of Cleopatra as seductress that we know today as part of his political scheming to defeat his rival Antony and end the Roman Republic once and for all.
Cleopatra has been the subject of debate and controversy ever since. William Shakespeare later relied on ancient Roman sources such as Horace and Plutarch in writing *Antony and Cleopatra*, and his play helped give rise to countless other works offering a distorted picture of her.
Professor Williamson argues that “Cleopatra was a human being, like you and I,” and “deserves the dignity of being represented as accurately as possible.” Her efforts to set the record straight have met frustration, however—after being extensively interviewed for the recent Netflix historical docuseries Queen Cleopatra, she concluded that it, too, had missed the mark.
You’ll gain a much deeper appreciation of the challenges of researching and accurately depicting the ancient past from Dr. Williamson, who also has taught at Harvard, Brandeis, and the University of California at Berkeley and is involved with an ongoing archaeological investigation of Queen Nefertiti’s sun temple. (Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. Talk starts 30 minutes later.)

Show Synopsis: Everyone deserves a second chance...
When Tessa is called to a broken-down auditorium to produce a play, she’s all too aware the crew is unified by one common quality – they’re all banned from at least one community theatre, including her.
Taking a chance, Tessa joins Jack, the laid-back director, to keep the Misfits on track despite arguments galore, slightly shady techies, competing divas and pesky vermin. But when a mishap endangers both the show and the Misfits, can Tessa overcome and embrace her fresh start or will they all be left broken hearted?
