1 DAY Film-jam No.117
This event will be for people to meet, go off and film, come back and enjoy the results. Whatever you want to do, be it film, act, direct or even just sort of hang around at the back then this is the event for you!
MEET AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE NATIONAL THEATRE.
If you are wondering what this group can provide for you, it’s above all else friendship with other like minded people, whether you are a screenwriter, director, cameraperson, actor etc etc.
With that in mind, on Saturday we will do the following:
1. We’ll meet at the National Theatre on Southbank.
2. We’ll split into two groups (or more if needed)
3. Each team will try and beat the other teams to a pub in EC1 in London and edit (maybe) the film.
BUT
4. Each team must make a 2 minute 30 seconds film on the way with a beginning middle and end, a solid story arc for the main character, etc.
Remember to bring:
1. You and your enthusiasm
2. A camera (iPhones dslrs whatever)
3. Someone willing to do an edit after we arrive back at the on their computers
All teams will then meet-up at a pub in EC1 and watch what we have filmed, happy with what they have learnt!
The first team that finishes gets a Small Prize!
Hopefully then, you will stick around to have a great time chatting about film, meeting new people, and forgetting about work until the late hours.
Look forward to seeing you there!

Drop-in Saturday Games & Social @ The Thirsty Bear
If you're looking for a laid back Saturday playing some board games and talking nerd stuff in a pub with some awesome people, this is the meetup for you! Whether you're new to London or just want to get some long-lost in-person socialisation, we're a friendly community and welcome you all.
**What to expect:** We officially play from **2 PM to 7 PM**, but we keep it casual. Show up when you can, and stay as long as you like. If you’re having a good time, there’s usually a group that stays late for a few extra pints and chat.
**Some house rules:**
* We aim to ensure these events are friendly, welcoming and safe, and so we ask you abide by our [Code of Conduct](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YEl0gv61SkBFN-YF6fyVvuQYicWbWhRL/view?usp=drive_link)
* We have a community box of games we keep in the pub, but please feel welcome to bring your own games along. Just be prepared to teach us how to play!
* We don't charge a cover fee, so please help support the pub by ordering food and drink throughout the afternoon.
* Please keep your RSVPs updated so we can manage numbers and ensure we can reserve enough tables.
Saturday Tabletop Games at Premiere Cinemas
It's **Saturday** & our main night of the week & the fun & games are just getting started here at DWL!
We're located here in the Cinema (which can be found on the 3rd floor of the Mercury Mall Shopping Centre) on:
* **Tuesdays & Thursdays**: From 17:30 to 22:00.
* **Saturdays**: From 12:00 to 22:00
🦁 And we're still running every Monday 6pm to 11pm at the Golden Lion Pub too.
🌭☕ There are hot & cold food & drink options available from the cinema at low prices!
Supporting Premiere Cinema by buying their food & drink IS supporting Dicing With Life! The cinema has been very generous to us by bringing us into their space & our way of showing our gratitude is by sending some business their way.
And their menu is surprisingly cheap! Especially compared to any other cinema.
Here's some cool examples of some great **offers**:
Buy a large **Popcorn** (it's a huge bucket!) or a large **fizzy drink** & it'll initially cost you £4, BUT, take your bucket or cup back to the bar for a **refill** & the cinema will refill it back up to the top for just £2! 🍿🥤
That's half price Popcorn & Pop!
This also applies to **Ice Blasts** too (£5 initially but to refill it's just £3).
There's also Hot Dogs, Nachos, Pick n Mix & many other treats in store too! Check out their menu 😋
If you have any questions, please ask & let the fun commence! 🎲

The Leopard
I probably cannot attend this film, but any Burt Lancaster fans in the group (or fans of Alain Delon or Claudia Cardinale) may be interested as you probably have not seen this film before...
Luchino Visconti’s *The Leopard* is an epic on the grandest possible scale. The film recreates, with nostalgia, drama, and opulence, the tumultuous years of Italy’s Risorgimento—when the aristocracy lost its grip and the middle classes rose and formed a unified, democratic Italy. Burt Lancaster stars as Fabrizio Salina, the aging prince watching his culture and fortune wane in the face of a new generation, represented by his upstart nephew Tancredi (Alain Delon) and his beautiful fiancée Angelica (Claudia Cardinale). Awarded the Palme d’Or at the 1963 Cannes Film Festival, *The Leopard* translates Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa’s novel, and the history it recounts, into a truly cinematic masterpiece.
* **Director(s):** Luchino Visconti
* **Cast:** Burt Lancaster, Claudia Cardinale, Alain Delon
* **Country, year:** ITA/FRA \| 1963
* **Duration: 185 mins**
* **Language:** in Italian with EN subs
* **Cert.:** PG

Cine: 12 sillas - Cuba
La película empieza a las dos de la tarde; no hay anuncios ni tráilers de otras películas, dura hora y media y después nos tomaremos algo para hablar de lo que nos ha parecido.
This first feature film by Cuba's godfather of cinema, Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, is a cunning adaptation of a comic novel from the early years of the USSR by Ilf and Petrov.
The madcap plot concerns the hunt for family jewels hidden by a wealthy Cuban matriarch before she died, in one of a set of 12 dining chairs which have been sold off individually. Son-in-law Hipólito and his former chauffeur Oscar both embark on a desperate adventure to find the ‘treasure’ before each other or the state does. They struggle to understand the new Cuban society, its rejection of class status, individual wealth and not to mention the maze of new official state organisations – a mix of real and imagined.
When the movie was made, the revolution in Cuba was only 2 years old, filming had to be paused in April 1961 when the US attacked at Playa Girón, and the impact of the new US blockade was overwhelming. For a newly liberated country in those circumstances to be able to laugh at itself in this joyful way is astonishingly confident. Conventions of silent movies, slapstick, animation and social realism are all evident in this unmissable first comedy of the revolution.

Oscar Watch Party
By popular demand, we're reserving a special meeting to watch the Oscars at Studio 35...
The Graduate
This 1967 film is widely regarded as one of the best American movies ever made. Now remembered almost as much for its Simon and Garfunkel music as its deadpan comedy and being the role that established Dustin Hoffman as the hottest actor in Hollywood. It became a cultural icon for capturing the spirit of 60s angst of a young man on the make, while garnering a batch of Oscar nominations.
After watching the movie on your own, join us to relive (or experience!) those feelings at our discussion.
Disc Tues / Choose Your Movie: TOW vs THEY WILL KILL YOU at the Gateway!
Join us as we get together for a Discount Tuesday / Choose Your Movie event to see your choice of the top-reviewed indie drama TOW or the action-comedy-horror THEY WILL KILL YOU! A winner either way! Here are details, trailer and plan for this event:
TOW: This drama follows a homeless Seattle woman who fights her way out of tow-company hell to reclaim her life and the car that held it all together after receiving a tow bill for $21,634. The film is directed by Stephanie Laing and stars Rose Byrne, Dominic Sessa, Demi Lovato, Ariana DeBose, Octavia Spencer, Simon Rex, Elsie Fisher and Corbin Bernsen. Tow premiered to rave reviews at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival where critics declared, “Tow is a winner” and called the film “a story of perseverance, heart, and real fight, the kind of small human story we see less frequently these days, but need now more than ever!” TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiUtqgeDVI8
THEY WILL KILL YOU: A woman takes a job as a housekeeper in a NYC high-rise, unaware of the building's history of disappearances. She soon realizes the community is shrouded in mystery. The film is directed by Kirill Sokolov and Zadie Beetz, Myha'la, Paterson Joseph, Tom Felton, Heather Graham, and Patricia Arquette. The film is being released immediately following its premiere at this year’s SXSW Festival earlier this month. TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYqQPiXpi4w
PLAN: We’ll plan for a 7pm-ish showing of both films and will meet in the upstairs lobby area about 30 minutes before showtime! Once showtimes are announced, advance ticket purchase via the GFC website is advised! Once you have yours, please list your movie of choice and seat number in the Comments section of this event. Complete details will be confirmed/announced as the date gets closer.
PARKING: Close, convenient parking is available in the nearby garage (located between 9th and 11th, just off High St). Bring your ticket with you and have it validated at the theater and for $2, you’re covered for the night!
Look forward to seeing you there, Dan
