🗿🎬 WHISTLE
***💀🌬️ One breath, one sound—this Friday the 13th, you’ve just invited your own future death to the party. So… who wants to go first?***
👋 **Hey guys**, this one just popped onto our radar, and what a fantastic day to watch, it's **Friday the 13th**, after all! So, this an indie film that premiered at **Fantastic Fest** and is now made its way into UK cinemas. It’s a supernatural film from **Corin Hardy**, who you may be familiar with from films like **[The Hallow](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4GaaT69VHo)** and **[The Nun](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwAM5UnGd2s)**.
The film centers on a group of high school students who stumble upon an ancient, cursed Aztec Death Whistle. When blown, it summons a vision of their future death—only for that death to start hunting them down in the present. It’s an intriguing premise so far—, so let’s see the film is good as well.
We’ll meet for drinks before the movie at the **Victory House Wine Bar**, , then head to **Cineworld (Screen 5)**. We'll be in **seat A7-A8**, but pick whatever seat you prefer. After the film, we’ll gather for a **[Letterboxd](https://letterboxd.com/movieroadhouse/)** review! Now, let’s see if Hardy can bring something fresh into the horror genre.
**We look forward to whistling with you on this unluckiest day of the year.**

🎶🎬 FROM LUMIÈRE TO LLOYD: SILENT CINEMA W/ LIVE ORGAN
**🎥 Join us for a special anniversary celebration of silent cinema, marking 130 years since film history began at the very own Regent Street Cinema** 🎞
**In 1896**, the **Lumière brothers** brought their cinematograph to Regent Street, presenting **the first moving pictures** ever screened to a paying audience in the UK. This unique event looks back to that extraordinary moment with an **evening of silent film curated and presented live by Paul Merton**, who will be in attendance to introduce and reflect on the films as they unfold.
The programme begins with a selection of **pioneering early short films** and classic silent comedies, capturing cinema in its infancy — playful, inventive, and full of wonder. These pre-interval films will be accompanied **live on the cinema’s historic organ**, recreating the atmosphere of early film exhibition.
**Pre-interval programme:**
**Sprinkler Sprinkled (1895, France)** – Directed by Louis Lumière
One of the earliest narrative films, this short comic scene features a mischievous boy playing a prank on a gardener, creating a simple yet enduring visual gag that helped establish screen comedy.
**Demolishing a Wall (1896, France)** – Directed by Louis Lumière
A group of workers knock down a wall, only for it to magically reassemble in reverse motion. A playful experiment that reveals cinema’s early fascination with time, movement, and illusion.
**Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat (1896, France)** – Directed by Auguste and Louis Lumière
Perhaps the most famous of all early films, this strikingly realistic depiction of a train entering a station demonstrates the immersive power of moving images in cinema’s earliest days.
**Cameo the Dog (1907, United Kingdom)** – Director unknown
This charming British short follows a clever dog who helps his owner recover stolen goods, showcasing early narrative storytelling and animal performance.
**Two Tars (1928, USA)** – Directed by James Parrott
Laurel and Hardy star as sailors whose shore leave spirals into escalating chaos. Renowned for its spectacular street brawl, the film is a masterclass in slapstick comedy.
After a short interval:
**Speedy (1928, USA), directed by Ted Wilde** — **Harold Lloyd**’s exuberant silent feature celebrating **New York City in all its bustling energy**. Lloyd stars as an optimistic young man fighting to save his girlfriend’s grandfather’s horse-drawn streetcar business, resulting in **a joyous blend of romance, daring stunts, and large-scale urban comedy**. The film will be shown with a score by the legendary composer Carl Davis.
I’ll be hanging out at the **Regent Street Cinema Café & Bar** from **6:30p.m.** for a meet & greet before we head to **Screen One**. Pick any seat you like—we’ll regroup for a film review and drink after the film.
**See you guys there**

💎🎬 CRIME 101
***🐭 Always have an exit as one heist connects them all. This definitely makes for some tension right?***
👋 **Hey guys**, picture this — **Crime 101** is all about a master thief pulling off high-end heists along the Pacific coast. But here’s the kicker: the scoop is there is this detective who’s convinced all these jewel robberies are connected. So, it looks like a cat-and-mouse game—sharp, tense, and with that coastal noir vibe.
This is actually based on a short story by **Don Winslow**, and the film is directed by **Bart Layton** who’s known for blending real-life crime with a gripping narrative style—so we can expect some clever twists along the way!
We’ll meet first for drinks at the **Victory House White Wine Bar** before heading to **VUE Cinema (Screen 6).** We'll be around **row C**, but feel free to pick you preferred seat. After the film we’ll reconvene to score and review it for our **[Letterboxd Page](https://letterboxd.com/movieroadhouse)**.
**If you’re into stylish crime thrillers, then we should check this out!**
**See you guys at the meetup**

Film Industry Events This Week
Discover what is happening in the next few days
1 DAY Film-jam No.113
This event will be for people to meet, go off and film, come back and enjoy the results. Whatever you want to do, be it film, act, direct or even just sort of hang around at the back then this is the event for you!
MEET AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE NATIONAL THEATRE.
If you are wondering what this group can provide for you, it’s above all else friendship with other like minded people, whether you are a screenwriter, director, cameraperson, actor etc etc.
With that in mind, on Saturday we will do the following:
1. We’ll meet at the National Theatre on Southbank.
2. We’ll split into two groups (or more if needed)
3. Each team will try and beat the other teams to a pub in EC1 in London and edit (maybe) the film.
BUT
4. Each team must make a 2 minute 30 seconds film on the way with a beginning middle and end, a solid story arc for the main character, etc.
Remember to bring:
1. You and your enthusiasm
2. A camera (iPhones dslrs whatever)
3. Someone willing to do an edit after we arrive back at the on their computers
All teams will then meet-up at a pub in EC1 and watch what we have filmed, happy with what they have learnt!
The first team that finishes gets a Small Prize!
Hopefully then, you will stick around to have a great time chatting about film, meeting new people, and forgetting about work until the late hours.
Look forward to seeing you there!

Film and Photography meetup, Turnpike Lane
Come and meet other film-makers, camera enthusiasts and photographers - or writers, directors, actors... really, it's open to all. Pass on your expertise or gain it from others.
We'll tend to have a specific focus each group, but there's plenty of space for general chat and Q&A.
It takes place at the All Good Bookshop (a lovely, independent co-op community bookshop), and it's free. Since the shop is run by volunteers, if you'd be up for buying coffee, books or even a £5 donation, that'd be amazing.
Also, that evening, the shop will be showing a mystery movie!
🥀🎬 WUTHERING HEIGHTS (VALENTINES FILM & SOCIAL)
**🌹I cannot live without my life. I cannot die without my soul. Be with me always, in any form—even if this intensity drives me over the edge**
👋 **Hey everyone!** It’s time for a special **Wuthering Heights** Meetup. We’re diving into the brand-new 2026 adaptation starring **Margot Robbie** and directed by **Emerald Fennell**. This version promises a fresh, slightly darker twist on the classic tale.
So, whether Wuthering Heights is your usual vibe or you’re just here for Margot Robbie’s charm, you’re welcome to join us solo or with a loved one. Either way, you’ll have a great time and make some new friends
In a nutshell, **Emily Brontë's** novel is all about intense, brooding love and revenge on the Yorkshire moors. It revolves around Heathcliff and Catherine’s turbulent relationship, full of passion, drama, and gothic intensity. From what we’ve heard, this new version leans into a modern, more intense tone—making it a real standout.
**Now, here’s the plan for Valentine’s Day**: No matter if you’re single or bringing someone along, this will be a relaxed film and social event for anyone who enjoys love stories with a bit of an edge.
We’ll meet at the lovely **Curzon Soho bar (lower ground floor)**, and we’ll do our best to grab a spot early—just note it might be busy as it’s that special day, so come with a flexible vibe! We’ll have a sign, so you can’t miss us. After drinks, we’re heading to screen 1 (we’re in **A6–A8**, but pick any seat you fancy).
Then we’ll be back at the bar for a laid-back Valentine’s social and **[Letterboxd](https://letterboxd.com/movieroadhouse)** review! If you’d like, feel free to come dressed in a classic style—totally optional, just for fun.
**We can’t wait to see you all there and share this unique cinematic experience together!**

Il Sorpasso (The Easy Life)
A classic Italian road comedy that was so good the film ministry recognized it as "culturally significant." Starring Vittorio Gassman and Jean-Louis Trintignant, the film shows that for young men in love the rules of the road are only suggestions. And the rules for love? Hey, this is an Italian picture! Oh to be young and filled with joie de vivre or la dolce vita.
A french/italian fun filled movie with a surprising twist at the end.
Do you have a fun memory from your youth?
Location TBD, but it will be in person for sure!
