🌺🎬 ALL YOU NEED IS KILL (ÔRU YÛ NÎDO IZU KIRU)
***🌱 Reliving the same invasion, desperate to find a tomorrow…***
**👋 Hello guys!** It's time to dive into anime, one of my favourite genres! We’re watching **All You Need Is Kill**, a fresh anime adaptation of the Japanese light novel. While it shares core ideas that inspired **Tom Cruise's [Edge of Tomorrow](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vw61gCe2oqI)**, this is its own beast, crafted by the acclaimed **Studio 4°C** and directed by **Ken'ichirô Akimoto** and **Yukinori Nakamura**.
It premiered last year at the **[Annecy International Animation Film Festival](https://programme.annecyfestival.com/en/program/event/f63e3947-5aab-4d1f-8639-9b6497836fdc)**, and now we’re getting a full-on sci-fi thrill ride. The story follows Rita, a young volunteer trapped in a time loop during a bizarre alien plant invasion. Each time she’s killed by the monstrous creatures, the day resets, forcing her to sharpen her combat skills and search for a way out, alongside another looper, Keiji.
If that’s your vibe, we’ll meet directly at the **Prince Charles Cinema Bar** at **5:45pm** as this one’s got the earlier start! I’ll be in **seat D5**, but pick your favourite spot. Afterward that, drinks and a **[Letterboxd](https://letterboxd.com/movieroadhouse)** review are a must.
**Can’t wait to see you guys!**

A Sci Fi/Fantasy Self Publishing Panel
Join us at **Craft Beer Co. Brixton** for an honest, practical panel discussion on **self-publishing**, featuring authors who’ve successfully done it and an industry expert who helps make it happen.
Self-publishing can offer creative control, speed, and direct access to readers, but it also comes with big questions.
In this panel Q&A, we’ll explore the self-publishing journey from multiple perspectives. Our panellists will discuss how they’ve brought their books into the world and what they’ve learnt along the way, with plenty of time for audience questions.
We’ll also be joined by **Rachael Jones**, Key Account Manager at **IngramSpark**, an award-winning independent publishing platform that enables authors and publishers to produce and distribute professional print books and ebooks worldwide. Rachael will offer insight into the indie publishing landscape and explain how platforms like IngramSpark fit into the wider publishing ecosystem.
**Our Panelist Authors**
**Alpha M. C. Cauwenbergh**
Alpha is an anomaly of the literary world. His latest novel, *The Rain: Death & All His Friends*, is the talk of book conventions up and down the country. Its diverse characters & seldom-seen narratives are surpassed in uniqueness only by the book’s design. A hybrid novel of prose and manga that could reshape the Sci-Fi Fantasy Landscape. Alpha hasn’t come to authorship from traditional literary academia but from boundless optimism and a tireless work ethic. Years of writing short fiction, poems and Haikus have cultivated an acclaimed craftsmanship in storytelling he now wants to share with the world. His book is available online, at indie bookshops across the UK & select stores in the Netherlands.
**Camilla Andrew**
Camilla is the award-winning indie author behind *The Essence of the Equinox*—a darkly romantic fantasy trilogy about gods, monsters, and the intoxicating power dynamics between them. Known for her poetic prose and morally complex characters, Andrew has cultivated a dedicated readership worldwide. Her work has also featured in the Cloaked Press Fall into Fantasy anthology and midnight & indigo.
**Sage Abiola**
Sage Abiola is a British-Nigerian technologist, artist, author and creator of *The Falliblle*. His identity has always been marked by duality: African and British. Scientific and artistic. Analytical but intuitive. That duality lies at the heart of *The Falliblle*: a high-stakes, philosophical sci-fi novel about a world that tries to eliminate failure, only to discover that without it, nothing real can grow. This story is not just fiction. It is a mirror. A way of asking: What do we lose when we chase perfection? What do we become when we forget how to fall?
Whether you’re considering self-publishing, already on the indie path, or simply curious about alternative routes to publication, this panel offers a rare opportunity to learn directly from creators and industry professionals working at the heart of indie publishing today.
Discuss & Social 🍷 Race and dating: preference, prejudice or politics?
**UPDATE: Our main discussion starts a bit later tonight - ca 8pm - - if you're new to our discussions, please aim to arrive after 8pm !!!**
Many say that dating your own race, ethnicity, culture, etc is a natural preference - but then why did many countries have to try hard to *stop* mixing between groups? From racial purity laws in the US and Nazi Germany, to Saudi Arabia's ban on marrying foreigners, apartheid in South Africa, segregation and eugenics, and bans on marrying someone from a different religion. While mixing across races was common since ancient empires and trade routes, race (or other demographic categories) is now a common "filter" criteria in dating apps and popular advice. Is this really just a matter of personal taste, or could there be an element of prejudice and politics?
We'll discuss:
1\. Is preference really natural?
2\. Could modern dating ideas on race/ethnicity/culture/etc carry political goals\, e\.g\. racial purity\, cultural conformism\, etc?
3\. How to tell whether it's preference\, prejudice or politics\, in our daily lives?
*Join us for a relaxed group conversation where we explore the real life, the grey areas, and how our different cultures and backgrounds shape our views about key topics.* *Expect real talk, no judgment, and a chance to learn how others see it.*
**\*Come for the discussion, stay for the friendships. Our weekly discussion series brings together thoughtful people for honest conversations on relationships, life, and society - with warm social vibes before and after.\***
**WHAT TO EXPECT:**
* Good vibes only: we chat big topics in a chill, respectful way. No arguing - just open-minded exchange.
* We warm up with casual socializing (come solo or with friends!)
* The topic starts around 7:45/8pm, wraps around 9:30.
* 🍕 There's pizza, drinks, milkshakes and snacks available at the bar (incl plant-based options)
* And most people stay until late for drinks and mingling!
**DISCUSSION FORMAT:**
**\- Our group conversations are open and flexible\! There is a very soft guided flow to ensure we focus on the key questions\, and to ensure that everyone gets a balanced opportunity to speak\.**
\- We rotate groups intentionally during the discussion so everyone gets to meet a wider mix of people and perspectives\.
\- After the structured part\, you’re free to mix and mingle with anyone\.
**Here's a typical discussion structure, but we may adjust this depending on the turnout:**
\- Introductions and initial thoughts *(\~5 mins).*
\- Group breakouts per question *(\~20 mins x 3).*
\- Final round of opinions *(\~10 mins)*.
\- Mix and mingle\, make new friends\, get drinks etc *(\~until late)*
**Rules & etiquette:**
1\. Debate the topic\, not the participants \- no personal attacks please\.
2\. No phones\, no interrupting\, no bystanding\.
3\. Always follow the moderator/host instructions and guidelines\.

Tuesday Tabletop Games at Premiere Cinemas
It's **Tuesday** & our main night of the week & the fun & games are just getting started here at DWL!
We're located here in the Cinema (which can be found on the 3rd floor of the Mercury Mall Shopping Centre) on:
* **Tuesdays & Thursdays**: From 17:30 to 22:00.
* **Saturdays**: From 12:00 to 22:00
🦁 And we're still running every Monday 6pm to 11pm at the Golden Lion Pub too.
🌭☕ There are hot & cold food & drink options available from the cinema at low prices!
Supporting Premiere Cinema by buying their food & drink IS supporting Dicing With Life! The cinema has been very generous to us by bringing us into their space & our way of showing our gratitude is by sending some business their way.
And their menu is surprisingly cheap! Especially compared to any other cinema.
Here's some cool examples of some great **offers**:
Buy a large **Popcorn** (it's a huge bucket!) or a large **fizzy drink** & it'll initially cost you £4, BUT, take your bucket or cup back to the bar for a **refill** & the cinema will refill it back up to the top for just £2! 🍿🥤
That's half price Popcorn & Pop!
This also applies to **Ice Blasts** too (£5 initially but to refill it's just £3).
There's also Hot Dogs, Nachos, Pick n Mix & many other treats in store too! Check out their menu 😋
If you have any questions, please ask & let the fun commence! 🎲

Let's meet up and speak English at a museum!
Our first 'class cultural trip' was really fun so I'm carrying on the series and we're going to keep exploring the British Museum.
The idea is we'll meet in the cafe at the British Museum, and then choose which part of the museum we want to explore. We'll walk around it, stopping to look at things we find interesting. I'll help you with the vocabulary you need to talk about what you can see. At the end we'll go back to the cafe to summarise what we've learnt and do a little vocabulary test to see what you can remember from your visit!
If you are late, don't worry too much, because we will stay in the cafe until everyone has arrived and then start exploring the museum.
I hope to make 'cultural visit classes' to museums/ exhibitions/ galleries into a regular event so let me know which places you are interested in. I plan to choose places that have free entry.
I need a minimum of 2 students to run this Meetup. Maximum 5 students so everyone gets a good chance to speak.
April's first Science Fiction meetup.
Would you enjoy a relaxed evening with fellow Science Fiction and Fantasy fans? If so, we’d love to meet you.
Our next gathering takes place on **Saturday 11th April from 6pm** at **The Mad Hatter**, just by Blackfriars Bridge. Drop in, say hello, and join us for a drink.
We’re a long‑running group that’s been meeting since **1998**—long before meetup sites existed. Over the years we’ve hosted celebrity meet‑and‑greets, attended conventions together, run role‑playing games, organised cinema trips, LARPs, and plenty more.
These pub meetups are all about socialising and connecting with other Sci‑Fi and Fantasy enthusiasts. To help break the ice, we’ll be running a fun **team quiz at 8.30pm**.
There’s no fee to attend—just pay for whatever food or drink you order at the venue.
Let's meet up and speak English!
Following the popularity of the Friday afternoon class at Le Pain Quotidien in Notting Hill, this is a NEW, MORNING mini-group class for a maximum of 4 students. The numbers are small so that everyone gets lots of opportunity to speak and be corrected by a native British English speaker (me!)
We switch topics as the conversation flows, so that you can get used to talking about a variety of subjects, as you have to in everyday conversations with native speakers.
I really look forward to welcoming you to this mini-group and helping you with your English!

Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for April is "Water"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!

LOCATION: Faith Mission – Grant Kitchen is located at 245 N. Grant Ave. Enter the kitchen at Dock 1 (in the back of the building), indicated in the attached map. On-site parking in the adjacent lot and street parking is available in the surrounding area. Below are some links / attachments with additional info/details:
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Our group will be providing all of the volunteers on this day so a firm RSVP count is essential. Please only sign up if you are certain you’ll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please try to update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. With few exceptions, no shows or cancelations within 1
week of the event will not be eligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve. Our Partner Agency for this event is Lutheran Social Services! A huge THANK YOU to all of YOU for volunteering at this (and any of our previous) CMG Gives Back events!
