Discuss & Socialize 🍷 Hypogamy & Modern Relationships: Can Gender Roles Evolve?
Discuss & Socialize 🍷 Hypogamy & Modern Relationships: Can Gender Roles Evolve?
Many say you shouldn't date outside your class, wealth or social status category. Others say it's possible, but depends on your gender. Are these rules of the past still applicable to modern relationships? Or can we evolve past them and the gender roles they imply? *Join us for a relaxed group conversation where we explore the real life, the grey areas, and how our different cultures and backgrounds shape our views about key topics.* *Expect real talk, no judgment, and a chance to hear how others see it.* **\*Come for the discussion, stay for the friendships. Our weekly discussion series brings together thoughtful people for honest conversations on relationships, life, and society—with warm social vibes before and after.\*** **WHAT TO EXPECT:** * Good vibes only: we chat big topics in a chill, respectful way. No arguing - just open-minded exchange. * We warm up with casual socializing (come solo or with friends!) * The topic starts around 7:45/8pm, wraps around 9:30. * 🍕 There's pizza, drinks, milkshakes and snacks available at the bar (incl plant-based options) * And most people stay until late for drinks and mingling! **DISCUSSION FORMAT:** **Our group conversations are open and flexible - there is a very soft guided flow to ensure we focus on the main questions, and to ensure that everyone gets a balanced opportunity to speak. Here's a typically structure, but we adjust on the day depending on the turnout:** \- Introductions and thoughts *(\~5 mins).* \- Group breakouts per question *(\~20 mins x 3).* \- Final round of opinions *(\~10 mins)*. \- Mix and mingle\, make new friends\, get drinks etc *(\~until late)* **EVENT ETIQUETTE (Rules & expectations)** \- Debate the topic\, not the participants \- no personal attacks\! \- No phones\, no interrupting\, no bystanding \- Always follow the moderator/host instructions and guidelines **WHAT IS WORLD CITIZENS?** We're one of London's longest-running and largest communities. Since 2012 we run socials, cultural activities and stimulating discussions to foster meaningful exchange and learning among London's global professionals. They are inspired by MUN (Model United Nations) and salon discussions and offer a more relaxed and social evening version. **LOCATION DETAILS** What: Discussion session followed by social/networking When: Tuesday, 7:30pm until late. Wet January - The Annual CBGB Bermondsey Beer Mile crawl returns for 2026
Wet January - The Annual CBGB Bermondsey Beer Mile crawl returns for 2026
January is shit, isn't it? Everyone is mentally, emotionally and financially exhausted after Christmas. The weather is just grey and drizzly. Everyone is on a diet. Most of your friends are doing Dry January. The gym will be heaving for the next six weeks. If you happen to have a birthday in January then nobody wants to go out and do anything because they’re broke, sober or trying Veganuary (or perhaps even all three, for the true trifecta of misery). On top of all of this, we are mere weeks away from the shiny promise of the new year dissolving into familiar, crushing disappointment. Because of all of this, your favourite small craft breweries, bars and pubs have a tough time this month. The good news is that we can all collectively do something to help them out, and all we have to do is drink beer! The CBGB Annual Dry January Bermondsey Beer Mile MeetUp is back for 2026. Welcome to Wet January. When: Saturday 17th January 2026 Kick-off time: 2pm Proposed route: **· Southwark Brewing Company (46 Druid Street) – 2pm-3pm** **· Anspach & Hobday (The Arch House) (118 Druid Street) – 3:10pm – 4:10pm** **· Cloudwater (73 Enid Street) – 4:20pm – 5:30pm** **· The Kernel Brewery (132 Spa Road) – 5:40 – 7:00pm** Afterwards, should anyone still wish to, then suggest we head to **Craft Beer Junction (86 Enid Street).** The whole route is roughly a mile to walk and there will be around a 5 minute walk in between venues. Anspach & Hobday are happy for you to bring food in from the market on nearby Maltby Street and the Kernel have a proper kitchen serving food with a rotating residency – I believe it is a Japanese-inspired menu currently. There is also usually a food truck outside one of the other taprooms on Enid Street that sells pizza.
Callin All Dancers / Ravers: Free Dance Music Night @ World Famous KOKO Club
Callin All Dancers / Ravers: Free Dance Music Night @ World Famous KOKO Club
**Love dancing to hedonic dance music like I do?** Then join to kick of 2026 in euphoric high octane musical style with one of the **best dance music DJs** from **Japan** out there droppin phenomenal uplifting high energy spritual tunes for us to **rave** to in one of the most famous places in Clubland London @ the home of music Camden - **Koko**. As per any real clubnight - there will be inspiring immersive light shows / lasers for our bodies to sync in harmony to as with gyrate to the **rhythm of the night** (yeah I know that track is way too pop even for an underground cross-over but fuck it!) This will be a proper dance music club for hardcore ravers - so obviously there will be no mainstream pop or uncool "tourist" crap! Instead, think of the ecstasy inducing dancin tunes you'd hear at other famous clubs like Lightbox, Egg, Bagleys, The Ministry, Moondance, Fabric, Paradise Club etc. We'll join up to **1500** other fellow cool young trendy music lovers for dancing and drinking for a night of blissful musical tranquility, Average age range 18 to 35ish heavily skewed toward 20s men. **Free Tickets are strictly limited -** so if you don't love both uplifting dance (rave) music and dancing to it - this is not a place for you - please don't rsvp and deprive someone who genuinely loves dance music a rare slot! Strictly no superr exteme lightweights - if you're gonna go home at 12am no point in coming out really. In proper clubs - real revellers don't usually arrivie till 2ish as the main DJ / music sets don't even kick-in till 12 so waste of a good ticket you'd normally pay up to £70 quid for! Oh & please don't ask me about 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine - I'm not a biochemist - try your local Boots!!! **=== Time To Make The Floor Burn ===** The only downside is we have to get in there before 10.30pm else regular door charge tickets will be about £45-70 quid, maybe cheaper with uni student ID. If you wanna pay for full ticket price on door or pre-buy and meet us in there about 1am that's cool too as 10.30pm is a understandably way too early to go a music club (hence the only reason we getting free tickets ) - we can sort out the details later. DM me for the free ticket link. We will meet beforehand somewhere quieter for intros, banter and obviously music chats about our previous rave escapades, our fav tunes, and non-music related banter. As Koko gets packed by 2am (1500 standing dancing cap) and we have limited free tickets - to avoid losing people - a small group size will be optimal for dancing together so limiting RSVPs. Obviously you can dance with other ravellers. Will update with super cheap pre-drinks Camden venue in the location. Es are good, Es are good, Ebenezer Lucas is good (If you can name dat tune without googling - I'll buy you a Bloody Mary)

Contra dance Jan 24 (First Unitarian Universalist Church) note new time!
# **Band: The Pegheads; Caller: Liz Burkhart** Beginner lesson at 1:30, regular dancing begins at 2:00 pm NOTE THAT WE ARE TEMPORARILY DANCING IN THE AFTERNOON INSTEAD OF EVENING. Dance with us in the afternoon then you can still go out in the evening! **Sponsor: All Soles Contra and Square Dancing, First Unitarian Universalist Church, 93 W. Weisheimer Rd., Columbus OH 43214** WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor. Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 1:30 - 2:00, followed by dancing 2:00 - 430. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner. Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot. Please bring your own refillable water bottle.

Bad Girls Book Club January 2026
Bad Girls Book Club January 2026
**Our January novel is: Once Upon a Wardrobe by Patti Callahan** **This month's featured novel is a 20th-century biographical fiction, coming-of-age, historical romance, women’s fiction, world literature, student biography, heartfelt, magic, and feel-good novel. The book is 311 pages in print and 7 hours and 8 minutes on audiobook.** 1950: Margaret Devonshire (Megs) is a seventeen-year-old student of mathematics and physics at Oxford University. When her beloved eight-year-old brother asks Megs if Narnia is real, logical Megs tells him it's just a book for children, and certainly not true. Homebound due to his illness, and remaining fixated on his favorite books, George presses her to ask the author of the recently released novel The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe a question: "Where did Narnia come from?" Despite her fear about approaching the famous author, who is a professor at her school, Megs soon finds herself taking tea with C. S. Lewis and his own brother Warnie, begging them for answers. Rather than directly telling her where Narnia came from, Lewis encourages Megs to form her own conclusion as he shares the little-known stories from his own life that led to his inspiration. As she takes these stories home to George, the little boy travels farther in his imagination than he ever could in real life. After holding so tightly to logic and reason, her brother's request leads Megs to absorb a more profound truth: "The way stories change us can't be explained. It can only be felt. Like love."
