Tim's Walks: Albertopolis - the highpoint of Victorian London
Tim's Walks: Albertopolis - the highpoint of Victorian London
Join Tim for a walk round Albertopolis, better know today as South Ken, the world's first artistic quarter. It emerged after the Great exhibition of 1851, the brainchild of Prince Albert, Victoria's consort. He used the profits from the exhibition to purchase and build a district devoted to the arts and education. Today it is home of some of the world’s greatest public institutions such as the Albert Hall, the V&A and Imperial College. At the time it represented perhaps the peak of Victorian self-confidence at a time when Britain was the world's dominant power and London its greatest city. We'll look at the Victorians’ concerns: the links between art and science, technology and design and the power of education to drive progress. In particular we'll look at the weird and wonderful world of Victorian architecture from mock Gothic to mock renaissance, mock Dutch, and mock baroque. You'll never look at the Natural History Museum in the same way again! We meet at the Pret opposite South Kensington Tube at 11. I'll be there waiting for you from 10.45. We'll walk round the neighbourhood looking at the peculiarities of the Victorians and all their different styles of architecture before ending in a pub for a meal and a chat. Fee is £12 payable in cash on the day, by card, through PayPal or bank transfer. Phone number is O7846899156 for emergencies

Neurodivergent Artist meet up - March 2026
Neurodivergent Artist meet up - March 2026
Hello all! IT'S BEEN A WHILE! **But the neurodivergent artist meet ups are back!** Come along to meet fellow neurodivergent artists, share your work and chat about your art! I'd love to \*finally\* put on an exhibition next year to showcase neurodivergent artists' work - so it would be great to get your thoughts on this too so I can start planning. **Please RSVP if you can make it! I will need numbers before booking the table. RSVPs close Monday, 2 March at 11.59pm.** **Meet up format:** We usually meet for a drink (no pressure to drink alcohol!), introduce ourselves to each other, share examples of our work and have a chat! You don't need to bring anything, but a link to your website or social media so you can show us your creations would be lovely! We usually meet at a pub and whilst I always request one of the quieter tables - I am open to venue suggestions! I have left the event location as The Barrowboy and Banker for now, but please let me know if you know of anywhere more suitable by Monday 2 March. Hope to see you there! Amrita x

Free Film and Theatre themed visit to the V&A with an Exhibition and Galleries
Free Film and Theatre themed visit to the V&A with an Exhibition and Galleries
First, we will visit the exhibition Enthoven Unboxed: 100 Years of Collecting Performance. This exhibition marks 100 years since Gabrielle Enthoven founded the theatre and performance collection at the V&A, and the display explores an A–Z of themes to show how performance continues to entertain, provoke and inspire. There is a huge variety of items on display ranging from Elton John's glasses through modern concert posters through to late 19th century theatre themed artwork. Next, we will walk through the museum to the Theatre and Performance Galleries. These galleries contain exciting theatre and performance collections, including rock and pop posters, theatre and ballet costumes, puppets, stage sets, Stars Wars costumes, and more. We should expect to spend around 45 minutes at each of the two legs of the visit. If we finish early, there are numerous other galleries in the museum, and we can pick another one or two to visit depending on timings. I already have a note of what's on. After the exhibition and galleries, the meetup ends, but it would be great if most if not all of us, stay for an entirely optional tea, drink, or snack in one of the many establishments in the area or the cafe at the V&A if that is still open. This will offer a great opportunity to relax and chat socially after what should be an interesting afternoon. The exhibitions are free, but the usual £1.50 group maintenance fee applies and is non refundable. Please note that Meetup now adds about £0.60 to this as well. (If you pay cash on the day, it’s £2.50). As always, you are participating at your own risk. We would appreciate it if you changed your RSVP no more than 2 days before the event should you find you can no longer attend. No shows or cancellations on the day may result in you being removed from the group.
FREE GUIDED TOUR: Italian Artists - Part III: Sculpture + Social
FREE GUIDED TOUR: Italian Artists - Part III: Sculpture + Social
Gentle people, It is my pleasure to invite you to Part III of Italian artists at the V&A, and a luscious afternoon of socialisation at the Grand Cafe at the V&A which is absolutely stunning. **Please note that there is no social before the tour, but only after.** I will be giving a guided tour of the Italian artists to the members of LGBT Culture Lovers group, throughout this year in multiple parts. **There's no need to have attended previous sessions as I always recap.** ***In the third event of the series, we will be looking at the sculptures of quattrocento and cinquecento.*** Included are works by **Donatello, Andrea del Verrocchio**, **Michelangelo, Raphael**, & many others. The tour will last around 60 minutes. **And here is the agenda:** * 1:45pm: Meet at the Italian style entrance on Cromwell Gardens (not the brutalist one on Exhibition Road). We will wait for 15 minutes. * 2pm: The tour starts right on the dot. * 3pm: Social at the V&A Grand Cafe! (appreciate a drink😜) I really encourage you to watch the two short videos in the further resources section, if you can. I hope to see there. J x **Further Resources** [Donatello's marble carving technique](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dn8F06y5mc)*,* V&A, video. [Donatello's clay modelling technique](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcoRoP3Abt8), V&A, video. *Due to the high demand of these tours, and the amount of preparation it takes, those with poor or problematic attendance will be moved to the waiting list, to give the space to more committed members.*
